Except for the pretty suspenseful rigging sequence and the beauty of the actual walk, this is a rather ridiculous and childish movie with some of the worst and most annoying use of accents ever. How many times do we need an explanation for mixing two languages? All the time apparently: 'we need to talk English to practice'...fuck you! On the plus side: the use of 3D proved to be damn effective during the walk, so thumbs up for 3D (for once).

It will surely be misunderstood as naive, but it's another proof that transparency works -- and that Zemeckis is one of the few guys in Hollywood that uses CGI not in a pure operatic, pragmatic way.

Really enjoyed this. It looked fantastic (and the 3D helped it), and the pacing of the film was good. I don't think I've seen JGL be bad in any film and this is no exception. He is great and the heart and soul that brings this film together. Seriously those wire scenes are quite breathtaking and the ending is very poignant.

Viewed September 28, 2015. There are parts of this film that don't work - perhaps we spend too much time in France, and the entire framing device/narration doesn't work nearly as well as one would hope. But at its best, but this film becomes breathtaking and beautiful, with some wonderful uses of the 3D format that really emphasize the sheer gravity of the situation. Plus, JGL's performance is breezy, charismatic fun, and Benny Schwaz is in it.

Part heist flick part circus act, all entertainment. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is convincing as the charming yet determined man who eventually tight-rope walked between the Twin Towers. The visuals are stunning and good enough to induce vertigo in even the most season heightists.

Is a little heavy on the glorifying/romanticizing of an insane person, but those high-wire scenes were gorgeous. The kind of gorgeous only Zemeckis could pull off.

Remove the accents, the annoying direct narrative and the romantized elements and you have a winner. The walk itself is better cinema than blue aliens and exploding planets combined.

Fearlessly sincere to the point of being outright corny most of the time, but executed with such enthusiasm and whimsy that it ends up working. I think this might have been even better with someone other than JGL in the lead role. I think the film needed someone who can immediately sell you on his boyish wide-eyed outlook, something that JGL seems to be working very, very hard at. In a way, his ridiculous accent actually does help sell the character, but I still think he's not quite right.

The Walk is thrilling, tense, often gorgeous, incredibly amiable, and a relatively faithful retelling of the true story. Is it as good as Man on Wire? No, but it's close enough that it's well worth seeing.

I wasn't sure how this would be and how JGL would do. He embodies the real life person perfectly! Although some truth is blurred, the story doesn't lose anything for it. A great tribute to an amazing feat and the buildings that inspired it.

Not a bad entry into 2015 or Zemeckis's filmography as a whole. Right off the bat, it feels very Disney-esque and that's not a bad thing. The whole first act is a bit slow but it comes off as adorable, despite an unbelievable romance. The actual walk is most interesting however. Zemeckis does a great job of not only mood and tension, but cinematography as well. The story can be bland at times, but both the director and cast keep the movie tight.

There aren't any real surprises (except for being set up by the preview), since the story is well known, but the tension is continuous towards the end. Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance is excellent. But the real claim to fame here is the 3-D, which is the best ever IMHO. It isn't an effect you notice at the first and are then reminded of only occasionally after that. Don't settle for 2D, it makes this movie.

Talk about a movie that should have never been made. I can't believe Zemeckis was behind this. And Joseph Gordon Levitt has got to be one of the worst actors of the decade.

Enjoyed the visual flair at the beginning. JGL is easy going and it all skips along nicely. I can't for the life of me come up with a reason why you'd watch this over the excellent documentary "Man on Wire" however.

Come to think of it, that pile of pillows is exactly where this film lands. It's padded and protected by not being some R-rated splatterfest that's inadvisable, really, for anyone to watch. But it makes it seem awfully fun and interesting to go ahead and jump from the window. (pluggedin.com)

It's worth it for possibly the first legitimate use of 3D. The actual line walking is really tense. Everything else is kind of mediocre. Sometimes Zemeckis makes good, subtle films (Gump, Flight) and sometimes he makes in-your-face and hamhanded visual extravaganzas (Beowulf, Christmas Carol). This falls right in between.

This is another absolutely unnecessary film. So few years after Man On Wire this feels like another mindless reboot. But this only makes it more impressive that I really enjoyed it. The simplicity of the story is still beautiful and it is stunning to look at and padded with visual trickeries that make the time fly by.

I was not particularly impressed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt french accent & constant narration. The CGI was impressive such as how they recreated the twin towers and video footage of him on the wire. It was also entertaining to watch the troupe infiltrate the tower buildings to setup the high wire, which felt like a heist movie. It was amusing at times and there were a few good tense moments. Great production quality and music. The story is pretty basic and the guy was a little crazy.

A dramatization of the exploits of wire-walker Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), most notably his walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. In the wake of MAN ON WIRE, the necessity of it may be questionable, but Robert Zemeckis does some of his best directing in years, Alan Silvestri provides a fine score, and Gordon-Levitt, despite a dodgy accent, embodies Petit's daredevil spirit. Not quite as good a 3D spectacle as EVEREST, but compelling in its own right.

Jo-Go-Lev really impressed me. The problem with this film is that, with almost every case, a documentary would be better than the biopic. Which is certainly true here because the documentary "Man on Wire" was excellent. "The Walk" Hollywoodizes the story, shaves and polishes away all of the interesting rough edges, leaving an easy-to-swallow product for mass consumption. But as it goes along...it's pretty bland. Skip this and watch the doc.

When I saw the trailer I was a bit worried how they were going to fill 2 hours of walking the line. But this was a pleasant surprise. The high energy performance of Joseph Gordon-Levitt manages to make the hours pass by! Perhaps not the most ultimate story to get the mainstream treatment, but definitely a intriguing niche personality and it gives them a reason to honor the spectacle of the World Trade Center without having to mention 9/11.

I think I prefer the documentary & its darker tone, but this was pretty decent. I liked that it took its time & that they spent a lot of it in the climax, which was really well done. It's also undeniably made for the general American public, who don't like subtitles. The twin towers tribute was a little cheesy, but unavoidable, I suppose. Gordon-Levitt's French accent was off-putting at first, but I got used to it. I'd recommend this, I guess, but I'd recommend the documentary as well.

This is a walk I'd rather not take, but I'm glad Philippe Petit did. He seems to have made the Twin Towers of New York famous for not just being the target of a gigantic tragedy. I thought that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was incredibly adorable in this film, yes, his accent wasn't spot-on all the time... but I loved him nonetheless. Charlotte Le Bon was gorgeous and interesting to watch. I also liked seeing Ben Kinsley in this as well, he's in a lot of films but he adds a lot...

The Walk is not just about Petit, it's perhaps even more an homage to the twin towers, and what they ment to the city of New York. I was impressed by the story, and I though Gordon-Levitt did a really good job. Aside from the weird character and narration. 60/100.

Technically impressive, but the main character and his entourage are too unlikeable; and the motivation for "the walk" too unclear, to really root for anyone. Also annoying: the French characters constantly making excuses to speak English.

Beautifully crafted story which starts out with quirky charm, humour and fun, but becomes one of the most tense, thrilling, breath-holding dramas I have ever seen; it makes Mission Impossible look perfectly feasible! I watched in 2D, and that was bad enough, I am not sure I could have managed the 3D version, as I hate heights! Such an amazing feat deserved a decent film, and it certainly got it.

Ignore the tell and focus on the show, spectacular in every sense. The wondrous Gordon-Levitt has always been an actor of natural acrobatic finesse. Here, with lessons from Petit himself, he finds the poetic joy in performing that honors what the movie is about, a man who truly believes art can give you wings.

Didn't think Joseph Levitt as a Frenchmen was going to cut the mustard, but you know something? He wasn't half bad. I love that in the script his character insists on speaking English so that he's ready for that big day in the USA --because if I had to listen to Jo Gordy Lev speak French the whole movie I may have preferred a different outcome in between those towers.

I'll admit, this is an eye candy guilty pleasure. The movie gets by on its great cinematography and the breathtaking final act. Storytelling-wise it can't hold a candle to the 2008 documentary "Man On Wire" based on the same events. Levitt's performance is quite decent, to be honest, but both the put-on accent and the contacts he wore to properly resemble Petit were quite distracting. The Walk also wasn't as nuanced and ambivalent in its depiction of the protagonists as Man On Wire.

I'm a bit surprised by all the negative reviews. Having seen Man on Wire, I wasn't expecting anything truly exciting or new here. How much can you really say about such a short event. Wow, was I wrong. While the buildup is a bit slow, the action scenes are some of the most suspenseful and gripping I've ever seen. The CGI is magnificent. Gordon-Levitt was a perfect decision for this role. He makes Petit much more likable and transparent than the documentary portrays him.

I shouldn't be but I'm a sucker for Zemeckis' movies. In Hollywood, he's the guy that, to me, has the most sensitivity and authenticity in his descriptions of human beings. And when there's americanism, it's not a shitty imperialist navel-gazing type of it, but more like: "well this is home, I like it".

I loved Man on Wire and Philippe Petit's story is both harrowing and invigorating. His personality, however, could easily be seen as annoying and, unfortunately, JGL puts a little too much whimsy into the performance. I think the glaring problem is the framing device which does not work at all. Zemeckis shoots the rigging scene really well, which is the definite highlight of the film. It is better than I expected but the original documentary is the go to for this story.
