An epic start to one of the finest TV series ever created, and in my humble (and this case completely correct!) opinion, greatest TV sci-fi ever! Nice production values, well performed and very engaging. A cracking pre-cursor to the series, which would amazingly go on to improve on this excellent beginning. Perhaps my score is a little for the series as much as this pilot, but I dont care! Fraking awesome!

The show is off-the-hook awesome, and while this pilot mini is a very good introduction to the characters and situations, I can't shake the feeling that something is missing here, and that some things move just a little too quickly. Luckily, the series isn't bound by similar time constraints and can afford a more sprawling, epic feel. Gaius Baltar is one of the best characters in any medium right now. Honestly, what a great show.

Drab and overdrawn sci-fi epic no doubt plays better to fans of the show, and may itself work better as 4 x 40 minute episodes than as a complete feature, but is enjoyable enough if seen through the prism of 90s TV sci-fi tropes. Performers are adequate, ditto the fairly middling special effects; one would think this may have played as a decade too late relic even at the time of its release.

Does exactly what a pilot should do. I was hugely impressed with this at the time and it left me wanting more. The amazing thing is that the show went on to exceed the pilot in so many ways. It fundamentally understands that sci-fi is an abstract way to tell human stories that relate to the here and now, and isn't all about funky aliens and pew-pew laser battles.

I don't really get the hype. Currently, I'm screening as many television pilots as humanly possible, as part of an epic "Pilot Project". You usually get a pretty clear idea about whether or not a show will be likely to work for you. Two of the deciding basic factors are characters and cast, and I was impressed by neither here. So while the execution is rather nice and some ideas had potential, I'd be more inclined to delve into Tricia Helfer's filmography than to queue up the rest of the series.

Best tv Sci-Fi ever. This balls-to-the-wall escape pilot set a standard so high it was almost impossible for the actual series to follow. The main concept of this ancient bulk of a starship, as the last hope of humanity, is magnificently well thought out and executed. It evokes the "what the fuck are we going to do? We're space truckers!"-feel, that did wonders for Alien. My mom always told me to end reviews with a slogan (no, not really) so here goes: It's a Must See if you're into TV! There.

Amazing start to the series, though as a movie it doesn't work. As the start of a series, sci-fi or otherwise, you just can't get better than Battlestar Galactica. If you're not watching/haven't watched this series, and you claim to be a fan of anything resembling science fiction, then you're not really a fan of science fiction.

Great start to kick off another rewatch of the best Science fiction/fantasy TV show ever made (so far) and just one of the best shows ever made. The crew of the Colonial Fleet head off in search of the legendary planet Earth home of the 13th colony, as told of in ancient Kobol mythology. SO SAY WE ALL

This was reasonably interesting but the show doesn't really pick up until the series proper. To be fair, there's an enormous amount of exposition that needs to be communicated, and while it does a pretty good job of getting it all across, it's not quite as entertaining as you would ideally hope. Expect a review of the series soon, once I've seen enough episodes that I feel I can give an opinion on it.

Great sci fi-series overall. It creates an amazing world in all areas really, with a rich history that makes it highly interesting. The overall plot feels epic and engrossing. Fantastic performances, great soundtrack, cinematography and special effects. The problems are in the writing however, which became apparent upon re-watching. It's way too sensationalistic and sentimental; the characters too irrational, hypocritical. Add to that too much religious nonsense. A shame; but still a great show!

One of my all time favorite pieces of fiction, period. Ronald D. Moore and company have crafted such a fine story full of believable characters, tense situations, and relevant issues. I know it's hard for some to get past the changes made since the original series, but it is absolutely worth finding a way. It is definitely a "Must-Watch" series, but only if you can do it in the proper order, since it's very serial.

GOOD: Takes plot, roles seriously, good scripting, good plots, Most acting good to decent ; BAD: Silly religious overtones and story doesn't fit, Gaius is a terrible actor, way over-the-top, blonde in Gaius head overdone and got tiresome, Cylon clone plots got really tired, too repetitive, not enough space battles

A work of television for the age of Guantanamo and car bombs. Yet the subtext never comes to that awkward level where all the characters become thinly veiled avatars of current public figures. The universe is ours and yet it's own, and the first two seasons are easily two of the best in television history. Yet like many of the great 00 Television sagas it loses focus and steam towards it's conclusion, which thusly becomes something out of a half-hearted Gainax dream.

Killer robots and epic space battles abound in this fantastic series, all impressively convincing given its relatively low budget. But BSG is so much more. There are political issues (some reflecting upon current affairs), legal principles, and truly profound moral questions. The cast delivers amazing performances (particularly in the later seasons), making you believe in their desperation, loyalty, fear, friendship, and loss. One of the best shows ever aired.

A great introduction to the Battlestar Galactica universe. I was worried when I first started to watch- I didn't think that it could live up to the hype, but it most definitely did. Great performances all around, and I have a difficult time picking a single standout from amongst the cast. The plot was great, and the settings generally managed to balance the high-tech with the low-tech to good effect. A great setup for the series.

This is a great miniseries to kick off a wonderful reimagination of the Galactica mythos. Do not expect the original series. This one changes the history between the Humans and the Cylons and completely revamps the tone of the show. It also manages to re-create the face of SciFi forever.

A solid launch pilot for what eventually became a groundbreaking series. The series episodes (for the mostpart) eventually become better than the pilot that launched it. Fans of the originally often fail to adjust to this new interpretation- it is truly their loss for the spirit is here (only grittier and smarter).

This was a terrific pilot which did a perfect job of introducing you to the characters, the setting, and for those who saw the original series of converting you to the re-imagined universe of Galactica. The series trailed off from here, eventually getting mired in planet-bound soap-opera-ish plotlines, but ignore that and enjoy all that was accomplished here at the outset.

Despite many flaws with the plot and inconsistency in the characters, I really like this series alot, and find myself wanting to watch it. Commander Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) is one of the best characters in the series, and the storyline he and the crew find themselves in is compelling and intriguing. The character of Gaius Baltar, who is plagued by a beautiful apparation, is extremely comical and entertaining, and helps to make the show what it is as well.
