I might be objectively wrong, but I really enjoyed this. I guess I'm just a sucker for noir-fantasy-action-horror movies. Especially when they involve Ygritte, Frodo, and Alfred taking part in a Vin Diesel acted and produced D&D homage. It has some good world-building and some cool visual choices, but most importantly, it's entertaining.

It's got some really good world-building that shows the underground lives of witches and worlocks, similar to Men in Black's aliens, and it uses special effects well but the script is really bad. Like, really bad. If you do see it, keep an eye out for the motivation of Elijah Wood's character (it's hilarious). Overall, mostly average, occasionally horrible.

I wanted to like this, but never felt engaged & didn't care about the characters. The constant barrage of CGI was not pleasing. Vin Diesel, who I usually like, seemed out of place in the role. Michael Caine didn't add much. Elijah Wood was a poor choice. Music was really good. The poorly written, contradicting story wears on you & becoming less enjoyable as it proceeds. They then went CGI crazy & ended up producing a mediocre to awful movie that probably cost way too much to make.

The Last Witch Hunter is a generic fantasy film set in the present time, with some really mediocre performances and okay CGI. Even though there is nothing really special about the film, many might find this an enjoyable guilty pleasure and I personally wouldn't have anything against a sequel if they decide to do it. Vin Diesel really shows he has fun in the role and you can't help but feel the same watching the film.

What does wash through your mind is a derivative mishmash story of bleak-to-the-point-of-blackness spirituality. Faithless priests. Chanting witches. Bubbling potions. Burning spells. Impaling blades. And something that's supposed to represent apocalyptic doom. (pluggedin.com)

I'd be kinda peeved to be Elijah Wood in this one. He's kinda billed as the co-star but gets very little screen time. Surprising fun time. Actually kinda want to see a sequel made to this one. What lurks in the shadows?

The Last Witch Hunter is a generic action movie that just goes to remind us that either Vin Diesel is not a leading man, or he needs to pick way, way better projects. This is as bland as bland can get, filled with CGI overloaded action scenes, boring characters, an uninteresting story, and more exposition than one could hold in both hands. It wastes its talent, wastes our time, and the best thing one can say about it is that it almost approaches mediocrity - but doesn't even get there.

The protagonist is an interesting character and he has quite a few twists in his backstory which can keep you entertained until the end of the movie. Unfortunately the picture doesn't have much more interesting elements in its story. The world it presents us is quite interesting, though. I would definitely enjoy a role-playing campaign set in this world, maybe with Vin Diesel. I recommend it if you are eager to see a fantasy done decently. Skip it otherwise.

The Last Witch Hunter was equal parts dumb fantasy and dumb action but it never strayed too far into being dumb. I've gotten sick of watching warewolves, vampires, and zombies and this was a welcome addition to the normal horror stereotype characters that Hollywood has been churning out for years. The acting talent in this movie is very good. I thought the main bad guy wasn't great but the mixture of Caine, Diesel, and Wood made for some good storytelling. I wish they would make another.

Good flick overall; really good effects/CG and I didn't think the acting was bad at all. My only issue, which is quite important, is character development - just not enough, therefore started losing interest as movie went along.

Despite being thoroughly mediocre in terms of direction, editing and acting, The Last Witch Hunter is still entertaining. The film heavily shares its motif (and to a lesser degree narrative) with Blade and Van Helsing, with visuals suited to the mass of YA adaptations being pumped out. Bar a few plot conveniences, the story is decent, and with Diesel's D&D enthusiasm, it isn't hard to suspend disbelief and have fun. This is a film that doesn't try to say anything, and is better of for it.

Entertaining to watch. But the role they gave Rose Leslie. The lines between Diesel and Leslie are badly written. Like written by a 12 year old. "You hunting a witch? No I am saving a friend." Ugh. And she keeps crying: "you've ruined my life" ... She is somewhere between being a whiny little bitch and being a rough girl/romance/friend. I can't wrap my head around it. But if I forget her role, it's a fun movie to watch. I hoped for more Elijah Wood.

This movie suffers from a bad case of counting your eggs before they hatch. It's acutely apparent that it was made with the intention of launching a franchise, and because of this, the plot is disjointed and sometimes doesn't make sense, there's too much focus on setting up all of the elements to make sequels that the core story, here, is neglected. It's a little sad, because at it's heart, this as a franchise could be quite entertaining. But as a one-shot, it's pretty lukewarm.

Sigh. Look. I didn't actually hate this, but I think it says more about my tolerance for mediocre films then it does for the film itself. Vin Diesel is okay, but he doesn't suit this type of role. Even the presence of Michael Caine doesn't really help this. The story is also full of holes and the so called "twist" was very weak.

Now I like Vin Diesel, I can't help it. But man, why does he have to play in (another) bad movie..? Leslie is really good and the only one who seems to be in place here. Wood is the worst choice for sure. The story is boring and stupid (how come it took 800 years for Diesel to find a woman he likes??). The Last Witch Hunter is really not that good... 34/100.

I have a soft spot for films like these and this one proved to be a reasonable effort from the filmmakers but far from anything worth recommending. Overall its fairly formulaic and of the two twists the throw into the mix, one was predictable and the other somewhat cliche. I didn't care for Leslie's performance and didn't buy her chemistry with Diesel but the effects and cinematography were decent.

It's impressive how little this film cares about originality and narratology, resulting in a hilariously over the top, watchable film. If you take a drink each time this one rips off an image or piece of dialogue from a piece of geek culture, you won't make it through the first five minutes.

The Last Witch Hunter may be one of the most ridiculous films I've ever seen. I had little expectations judging by the title alone and from the outset and throughout I struggled to invest myself in both Vin Diesel's character and the overall concept. The heavy CGI is distracting and unconvincing, I didn't care about any of the characters and on reflection the whole experience is something of a blur. But the biggest problem with The Last Witch Hunter is how painstakingly serious it takes itself.

I really am at a complete loss as to why this movie has been universally panned. Me and friend who are both veterans of at least a couple of thousand movies totally enjoyed this one. It's a bit like Avengers - enjoy it for how grand and fun it is rather than try nitpick to like a critic. Vin Diesel is solid as usual. The movie curiously will remind of Men In Black, Ghost Rider and even Pirates Of The Caribbean. Ignore the overall rating and watch it.

Nowhere near as terrible as I expected it to be. Sure, it's not the greatest movie ever made (it basically Constantine but instead of demons and angels you get witches) but it wasn't as terrible as the critics made it out to be. Basically if you go in with very low expectations of a movie with Vin Diesel playing the role of one of his old Dungeons and Dragons characters, you can still have a good time.

"Explaining Magic: The Movie". From a storytelling perspective this thing is straight out of the age when action movies didn't HAVE to make sense, and audiences seemed way more willing to accept things at face value. That said, at face value, this is rather fun! When you start pulling threads, sure, it's gonna fall apart. I don't feel compelled to do so with this. I mean come on people, it's Vin Diesel as the Highlander. I also dig modern fantasy even when it isn't the smartest thing out there.

I dug it. Like mwgerb, maybe I'm just a sucker for this kind of movie, but the idea of a fantasy movie in modern times works for me. I love the idea of guns-meets-swords-meets-magic. The script has a few fun twists, but yes it can be predictable and they spend time awkwardly explaining why magic works; I'm okay with that though because it does feel like there's some mythology here. Most importantly, it's just entertaining.
