HIMYM is one of the greatest sitcoms. It remains consistently good over its entire run, with great running gags that span seasons. The final season does change up the format and the show suffers a little as a result, but there are plenty of great moments within. I actually enjoyed the ending, and it makes sense, contextualised by the rest of the show. The characters are relatable and the cast do a great job.

There's a certain genius in remaking FRIENDS with an improbable amount of guest stars from the shows that people who hated FRIENDS were watching when FRIENDS was on and setting numerous painstakingly-arranged character-altering moments to bands people who hated FRIENDS were listening to while doing lines off a Possum Dixon CD, having waited till they got old enough to sink into the sentimentality like a scuzzy bathtub after a bender. Plus the structural conceits are sometimes actually genius.

The sit-com format is sort of quaint and faily restraining, but within this genre, HIMYM (in essence a modernized Friends) represents a high water mark, often using the framing narrative quite ingeniously. In the end though it outstays its welcome a bit, and the final twist ending represents one of the worst miscalculations I've ever seen on TV.

I think this show is brilliant from start to end. Not everybody will enjoy the ending, or even the last season for that matter, which I admit could have been handled better in some ways, but I still really like the way the story and characters are handled here, and it's got some of the most hilarious moments and characters I will always remember.

Gets worse every season but the first few were very heartfelt, or it could have been mostly my personal connection as a young single person in my 20s at the time. It's very hard for me to rewatch knowing how the series ends. Fav scenes: the arc involving Ashley Williams' baker love interest; Robin Sparkles.

I had long thought that Friends was the last good traditional sit-com. HIMYM is a solid successor, once you get past the horrible laugh track. It was really inventive with its use of story-telling, playing around with memory, unreliable narration, etc. Thank Christ I knew the shit ending going in because I cannot imagine how terrible that must have been for all watching in real time (though I think I would have figured it out a few episodes before the end).

Rating purely based on the remembrance of a decade with the show. -- For the first four years, "How I Met Your Mother" was justifiably discussed as "the next 'Friends'", however, things debatably took a different turn from season 5 onward with filler episodes starting to spread. For the last two seasons it seemed that the creators had lost their vision since they turned the once beloved show more and more into a persiflage of itself. Finally, the show's conclusion was a big slap in fans' faces.

Man, the first 3 seasons were sooo good. And than, the show became, well, american. You're only a good person, when you marry and your only goal in life should be children. God, what they did to Barney is such a shame. The show lost sight of its own topics like friendship or living plan B and instead became its own (lame!) inside joke.

Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. Ted is the blueprint of how to not be a man. Barney is great. The finale was so bad though. Nigga ends up with Robin? fuck outta here

Similar to Friends, in that many people with otherwise reasonable points of view mysteriously love something that is terrible. Based off of partial viewing of seemingly dozens of episodes as this was everywhere on television in the late 2000's.

Can't figure out what the appeal is. Not bad, some good people involved, annoyingly safe, generic, and rather unfunny for a comedy series.

Saw one episode in a hotel, it was funny. Saw another episode while babysitting. It was not. Will give it the benefit of a doubt because the acting was still good & I think there was a major arc with backstory I was lacking.

It doesn't age well. Feels extremely dated now with lots of old school sitcom cliches (obvious sets from one angle, laugh tracks, etc). Feels unnatural with everyone always having "rule of 3" puns ready at all times. It plays into every relationship cliche, and feels kind of like what a middle schooler thinks adult relationships are like. Lastly, no choices have consequences. Storylines / character traits are introduced and thrown away within an episode...wash rinse repeat for 9 seasons.

I think that this series is a quintessential 76; above decent but just so. It has very high points, Barney is one of the best tools in sit-come ever created for example and when they did big Broadway-type production pieces, it was sometimes magic. But then the setting is difficult to turn for 9 seasons, there is tangible bad blood between the actors and the chemistry suffers due to that, so after 5 seasons it stutters; it has a decent ending though. Ted is too gooey for my taste as the lead.

I really tried to get into this show. I just couldn't. It's just too much network formula for a sitcom and the characters are not nearly as interesting as they need to be. I can see why others like it, I just don't.

Una delle sit-com più brillanti e innovative di sempre, con un cast perfetto. Ha perso un po' di smalto nelle ultime stagioni, ma è rimasta comunque su alti livelli. Peccato per un finale insensato, che fa calare drasticamente il giudizio.

A few good jokes (for 9 season's, "a few" isn't many) and it's somewhat engaging. The characters are decent, with Barney being the most enjoyable. The story is okay, despite Ted and Robin's on and off relationship when we know Robin is NOT the mother. The ending is bad in many ways, and kind of depressing as a whole. Ultimately it is worth a watch since it's on Netflix, but there are far better sitcoms out there.

A very wonderful show that unfortunately lost its way after season 6. The show brings together one of the best ensemble cast right down to the minor roles and really excelled because of the ability to flash back, forward and allow funny changes in how the story is perceived. That being said all originality loses its mojo after a while and HIMYM did so so quickly after season 6, turning into a slow burning show to stick out just to see how it ends.

Friends 2.0: Friends in a Bar not a Coffee Shop! How I Met your Mother as the epic drama of a man meeting his children's mother. A story that starts in college goes through many hours in the local bar, hits a few strip clubs, and many endearing New York moments. Unfortunately, along the way, the writers lose sight of their goal, their characters, and pretty much everything else. Finally, the show had to be put down. But you've got at least 5 spectacular seasons before the show gets lost!

After my third time watching HIMYM, I began to realize where its greatness comes from: its perspective. The show didn't really hit its stride until season 3 and really declined after season 6, with some brighter spots in season 9. But the one thing that made it better and easier to watch was its continuous overarching story of Ted meeting the mother. Now, the final season needed to be shorter or seriously reworked for it to be its best, but this is a better show than most give it credit for.

Upfront confession: I wasn't a regular viewer, at all. My score is based on seeing probably less than 20% of the total episodes. But overall I found it amusing, with an all-star cast, but a little too syrupy and annoying at the same time. Also, the series finale is one of the worst ever. "Let's Go to the Mall" is wonderfully catchy, however, and one of the best fake music videos in all of TV.

The middle part of this series was actually pretty good, with a snappy pace, good amount of humour, the general construction of some episodes was often impressive and it was even dramatic in the right places (til it started getting way too dramatic). But it stopped being funny and I stopped watching a couple of seasons before it finished, but I did end up seeing the finale when I heard how bad it was -- boy, what a shithouse ending that we all ended up waiting for.
