It's occasionally chuckle-worthy when the main guys are riffing, but that doesn't come close to excusing some of the worst, shallowest characterization I've ever seen. The female lead is this utterly flawless sex-on-legs goddess who loves our protagonist for absolutely no discernible reason, and one of the worst-written characters of this or any other year.

When she suspects something might be wrong, Kristin Ritter asks her friend, "How are you doing?" to which she immediately replies, "Fine." as anyone would regardless of how they were actually doing. So she says, "No, I'm actually asking you. How are you doing?" and she doesn't need words to get the answer. This is not a great movie, but I own a copy just to watch this scene from time to time.

A rom com for teen boys, this is relentlessly predictable, always contrived and fundamentally sweet but filled w/ Something About Mary-style raunch. Like most rom-coms the humor here is also tiringly mediocre (except for a hilarious bit involving shaving). The big difference here is that unlike other rom coms the pairing is far more implausible. If not for the fact that watching Alice Eve be sweet & stunning for 90 mins is a very pleasant way to pass the time, I'd give this a much worse score.

If anything carries this movie, it is the supporting cast. The core relationship between the two leads, however, is a major bust. I didn't believe one second of it, which is too bad because the premise has promise. The filmmakers take the fast-track to mediocrity, delivering only a few fun moments here and there, and not a whole lot of humor. Take it or leave it, but I didn't find anything here to rave about.

There are about 4 minutes of generally funny stuff that occur on screen, and the rest is bullshit. It tries to be like Knocked Up, but it switches the girl being pregnant to the guy having low self-esteem. The story itself would never happen like this, ever. The characters are shallow and their dialogue is usually unrealistic and terrible. It's cliche and has one of the most predictable endings in movie history. Only watch if your girlfriend/fiance/wife is making you.

Sometimes attractive people go out with less attractive people. Sometimes it isn't because of money, but because of personality. Hollywood believes in you. Go get that ultrahot partner you don't deserve, but you do deserve.

I like movies where the geek gets the girl, but it doesn't work so well here. Jay Baruchel's character is TOO awkward & wimpy, and isn't nearly as funny or endearing as all the other characters keep saying he is. It's not unbelievable because he's less attractive than Alice Eve; it's unbelievable because his personality is blander than old cardboard (whereas hers is great.) There are some funny moments (mostly provided by T.J. Miller), but not as many as there should be.

It's not a very good movie, what with following pretty tired plot cliches and being filled with a lot of dumb dialogue. But sometimes stupid movies can be fun, and this is one of those times. All the actors are just right for their parts and in general the great delivery and little touches make up for the mediocrity of the material. I also appreciate that it didn't linger on the "misunderstanding separates the leads," even if it did use the tired trope. I shouldn't have liked it, but I did.

To a great extent these boy-meets-girl movies are always much of the same. Predictable, cookie-cutter, clichéd template-fests if you will. However, I like Jay Baruchel, I like Alice Eve, I thought they both did brilliantly in both the comedic and serious scenes of the movie, and I thought the jokes were, on average, good, and at the high points, side-splitting. I don't want to ask for anything more out of the genre, so I'll quit while I'm ahead and declare this one of the better ones I've seen.

The premise is too flimsy to really sustain interest and the script is devoid of characterization. Baruchel is a good actor, but given little to work with here he just goes into awkward overdrive. Also, maybe it's me, but Alice Eve just isn't as hot as this movie keeps telling me she is. As a hockey fan, this serves as a nice historical record of how bad the New York Islanders are.

I will acknowledge this movie isn't amazing, but I found a lot of it relatable. I had something very similar to this with a girl who was easily much better than me, but she didn't see it that way and it lasted 2 years. I don't find the movie overly funny, but I think the issues that Baruchel's character face within himself and his outside peers are in fact, real and relatable. Stuff like that are things that can affect the relationship. Not trying to make this deep, but I like it.

Every dorks' fantasy in a nutshell, so not many surprises there. But it does what it is supposed to. It only deviates slightly with a melodramatic scene and a bit of morale along the way, but only so short that it doesn't break the flow of the movie. Quite funny and enjoyable actually.

Way better than I expected. Very funny and cute. The ending is a lot far fetched but still funny and entertaining. Aside from a few scenes of unbearable awkwardness that I had to skim through, I really liked this movie. Not necessarily a great movie but for me it was way above average for a romantic comedy. I have always been a fan of Jay Baruchel and this only helps things.

Middle of the road. Neither better nor particularly worse than the average entry in a genre not only infested with but often constituted by clichés. This is no exception but Eve and Baruchel do alright.

T.J Miller was probably the best part of this movie, and even then he's a poor man's Jason Lee from Chasing Amy. Jay Baruchel is the nice guy, but he's still tough to root for. He's not charming, and there's never any sense that he's *not* going to end up with Alice Eve in the end. His shitty family just comes off as annoying instead of weird and quirky, and I didn't care about any of them (I do love Debra Jo Rupp in anything though). It's ok, but just see Chasing Amy instead. Is that bad?

Sure, "She's Out of My League" is littered with a few lame situations that attempt to create tension between its mismatched couple-to-be. But these failed attempts are easily overlooked by an adorable lead (Jay Baruchel) and a sugary-sweet supporting cast that should have most viewers grinning from beginning to end. If you're looking for a fun, light-hearted comedy. . , this one is for you!

A meek airport worker strikes up an improbable romance with a blonde bombshell. This offers nothing fresh or new and instead just rehashes many of the same genre scenarios that audiences have seen time and time again, except here the love interest has no discernible personality whatsoever. Baruchel and Miller do their best but cannot conjure laughs out of thin air.

Even though it is romantic comedy, with predictable end, there is still a little difference - the guy is not a total looser, he is not an awesome hero - he is just a regular boring guy, like most of us. And he is doing the thing, most of us men do, and we don't realize it.

Vastly meaningless and very, very formulaic. The message that the film sends - although it appears to be a good one on the surface, i.e. everybody can be a "10," have some self-worth and so on - under the surface is the same old encouragement of culturally-decadent imperatives of sex, status, feeling good, individualism and so on. Also, the build up lacked both consistency and almost any depth, so the ending was unsatisfactory. Having said that, it is an easy watch. But meh.

Flat rom-com is burdened by Baruchel and Eve in the leads as two of the most dull and circumspect characters; there’s no fire or passion in their relationship, or any edginess or interest in their personalities – even their conflicts are humdrum and inane, leaving the supporting cast fighting to bring some spark: highlighted by Ritter, whose flinty and bitchy character is so much fun you wonder why she wasn’t recruited for leading lady duties! Some potential here, but results are tepid at best.

It was bad at more times, than it was good. But to be honest in the first part I really laughed sometimes. After the jizz-accident it all goes downhill for me. Except seeing Alice Eve in underwear. But for the rest is was bad to ok. Most of the characters are good in playing complete retards and morons. Or they just are. 1 or 2 characters I liked. But most of the part not good, with the exception of some good points.

I would have never said that Jay Baruchel and Alice Eve make a cute couple but they do. Even though Eve really is a solid 10 and Baruchel I would say is probably a 4... they really did seem good with each other. So congrats to them actually making this semi-believable. I liked Marnie the evil ex-girlfriend who couldn't stand that her boyfriend was dating someone way hotter than her. The pool scene was definitely my favorite. Marnie wouldn't even take off her beach towell. Some great laughs.

Moving past the rather boring gimmick (an attractive girl dating and average guy? That never happens!) the film is actually suprisingly smart and sweet, having more in common with 40 year virgin and less with American Pie (as the ads would have you believe). A bit by the numbers, with a cast that most people haven't heard of will make this any easy one to miss, but the great supporting cast, good script and likeable leads make it stand out in the sea of better marketed comedies.
