A great feel-good-roadmovie-sex-comedy combined with an intriguing narrator, commenting the political disorders in Mexico in a very light, but at the same time very effective way.

I love the exhilaratingly explored disintegration of sexual mores, I love the narrator's irony-drenched asides that pinpoint the characters' ignorance of a ravenous class divide and culture of corruption in Mexico, I love the last-minute revelation that brings a new context to every scene with a certain character, I love the joy that permeates every shot of this film.

There are many things that make Y tu Mama Tambien unique. But i think the most important one is that all protagonist's spread their own amazing charme. Everything feel's comprehensible, beeing young, wild & free. making experience and be open minded for anyone.and at least this movie shows the evenescense of all things.if you want it or not.It is the way of the world so living la vida loca.

A funny, immensely lively teen road trip sex movie with MEXICAN CINEMA MAGIC. All three lead characters take rich shape over the course of the film, and when all is said and done you've become emotionally involved. A very good film.

A film that succinctly examines the true function of fantasy and its brutal consequence. On the surface: A free, erotic journey for two best friends & their dream woman. In reality: A rapid structural disintegration of bonds created by shared fantastical desires & hidden obscenities, by way of total exposure to the object of desire itself. This applies to the viewers: At every turn, Cuarón breaks the rhythm of his indulgent roadtrip to remind us of the sociopolitical corruption in the periphery

A personal favorite. It's a strange, but mesmerizing journey that leaves you alone and gasping at the end (like life.) It's a movie that wants to say so much and says it so well and with such earnestness. A road movie-buddy comedy mashed with existential class and sexual commentary. Unbelievable. Also, I'm always a sucker for García Bernal, but it's Maribel Verdú who gives the best performance.

Didn't get the hype. Sure, it's energetic and realistic and sexy and there's a neat melancholy undertone in the final scenes, plus some superb camerawork (Cuarón is a versatile talent). But for the most part it also seems kinda airless, not funny enough to be a clear-cut comedy, not focused enough to deliver a powerful message on human relationships and sexuality. Oh and I found the pompous narrator a crude way to add needless political context (Buñuel did that better).

Probably my favorite film about the teenage years, that also happens to be about Mexico. The female character is tragic, but there's still so much joy throughout, and I always want to go travel the world afterwards. The three leads range from good to great (I really like Bernal in this) and the editing, cinematography, and direction are all pitch-perfect.

There are some things you can never have too much of. A sexy cast. Great chemistry. Road trips. The freedom of youth. Coming-of-age moments. Up-close-and-personal handheld camerawork combined with saturated, blown-out colours which evoke the sweaty heat of a tropical country. This movie has it all, and its laid-back attitude is a joy to watch. Whether you like the characters or not, it's hard not to tag along and imagine you are on a spontaneous Mexican holiday with two of your best friends.

I wouldn't normally describe a lot of movies as sexy, but I will make an exception here. It's funny to watch what is essentially a teenage road trip movie and getting a really deep experience out of it. It includes the stuff that is in the Hollywood movies in the same vain (sex, drugs, racy humor) but is done in such a deeper way it makes the Hollywood counterparts look like the work of hacks. Do not overlook this gem.

Let me say this. The title is hilarious. Anyways. This is a classic road movie in the very best sense, with believable and realistic sex thrown in. It may be the best road movie I've ever seen. Maybe. I saw this thrown on to quite a few "best of the decade" lists, and I totally understand why. Don't watch the trailer though. It's so bad that it almost stopped me from watching the movie.

The sexuality doesn't feel like an exhibition and is probably the closest to being realistically portrayed, with everything not being so much about sweat and soft focus and passion, but sometimes being embarrassing or funny. I also never realized how beautiful Mexico looked, I've always been afraid of it. The film is laid out almost as if everything the characters come across on their trip was by chance, making the story occur very spontaneously. And jesus, that woman has an ugly crying face.

On 2nd watch: some movies age well. This is one as such that has many layers that goes beyond the mushy coming-of-age core and is still the pinnacle of Cuaron's cinema for me. It is his master's thesis how a meaningful life is one that's enveloped in/ coping with/tackling with sociatal chaos...or the imperceviably fractalising serious of events.

Truly an exploration of the inexperience and wild spontaneity of youth. The leads are fantastic and they help mix the dark comedy with the teenage angst for true emotional effect. Under the eye of Cuaron, the trite coming of age film with hypersexual overtones becomes a intricate look at Mexico and its culture from the inside out. Much more exciting and honest then a slideshow road trip film, Cuaron captures the fears, the hopes, and the pride of the Mexican people while telling a moderately interesting narrative story. The direction is very contained but sometimes gives a pretty shot that excites. It's a simpler film, but its not naive. Great family fun!

Cuarón, unlike the makers of American horny-teen comedies, tries at all times to serve the characters and the story rather than simply to twist the arrow off the laugh meter. Or to put it another way, he tries at all times for realism, even when trying for raunch. And the two young actors -- Bernal and Luna -- are revoltingly convincing.

Very mixed on this. A combination of childish impetuousness (sometimes annoying, sometimes cute) with an underlying dialogue on unspoken ideas and thoughts. Refreshingly frank coming-of-age film is beautifully performed by the three leads (Verdu is quite wonderful as the older woman) and the screenplay does an excellent job of realistically depicting their interactions (though even the final plot twist doesn't really give adequate motivation as to why Verdu accompanies the lads on their journey). Unfortunately certain scenes have a repetitive quality to them, and much like its heroes the film grows aimless and unfocussed at several key junctures.

Sex, drugs, and Mexican history. At first glance, it's classic trope -- the roadtrip. Another drive down Route 66. own Route 66. Yet, uniquely Mexican in beauty and horrors going beyond the usual illegal immigration, drug violence, and problems giving so much more. Parts of it border on a stoner comedy or a road trip movie (and it certainly is funny), but it reaches to greater heights and captures a wonderful viewpoint of life, especially the romantic and sexual aspects. One complaint: the omniscient narration was an interesting idea, but overall it was ineffective, often drawing attention away from the main story instead of adding to it. Powerful revelations and insights can still be delivered by the main characters, as shown in the final scene.

I saw this film some years ago on TV, and remember being impressed by it. I finally saw it again just to discover how utterly pointless and unpleasant it really is. Cuarón shows effort to make this film something more than teenage sex dramedy using political backdrop, but these efforts are either poor or lost to me because I'm not familiar with Mexican politics. As for coming of age/experimenting with sexuality... well, that was just gay.

The sex scenes while silly do look authentic. But I felt hints of artificialness like I was watching the film version of a young-adult fiction novel rather than the portrayal of life in both it's ugly and absolutely beautiful realities. Like the sex was in there not to portray human nature but bring in the crowd and the drama was there to make the plot appear deep. One thing we can be sure of is that the dramatic ending makes the film appear way more powerful than it actually is.
