Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels is a splendidly hysterical, superbly handled, slickly approached, diverting and daringly bold crime caper from Ritchie. It's a veritable refinement over his other attainments, and it's also one of his most inconsistent and unpredictable puzzles in his filmography. Astounding, devious, clever, witty and superior over Ritchie's Snatch and his latest effort of last year. Fascinating.

In my opinion, everything that Tarantino had attempted to little avail, England's Guy Ritchie went on to NAIL with this movie: a clever, tongue-in-cheek, labyrinthine, hyper-violent story set in the criminal underworld, stylish but not puffy. The last act or two are simply precious.

Amazing movie. It's hilarious, stylish, and isn't a bad mob flick either (in the most loose of terms). It gets overshadowed a lot by Snatch (which is a great movie as well), but don't sleep on this one or you'll regret it.

Ritchie's amazingly slick and entertaining debut with its unusually cool cast of characters, sprawling plot and funny dialogue is as kickass today as it was in the late-nineties.

Great witty, yet raw, comedy-gangster film with a great plot and a hilarious ending, all together with a perfect directing, great camerawork and some solid performances. Ask me to describe the genius of this film and this would be my answer. Great!

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is just loads of British fun. It's slick, stylish, hilarious, and incredibly well made with some nice performances from the cast. Guy Ritchie's sharp camerawork and witty, intricate screenplay mold crime film and comedy together into a must see.

Anyone who liked Snatch or RockNRolla etc will love this. This is vintage Guy Ritchie - frenetic pace & all subplots coming together neatly at the end.

An indecipherably British lark of a crime movie. Some performances are naff, but Sting is pretty good yeah? Ritchie's stuff always inspires me to play with a shitty cockney accent for a week.

I had feared it would be a lot of hip, flashy tough guys with attitude, spouting stupid one-liners and an orgy of senseless violence and all that. Well, it was that, but not to the unbearable degree I thought it would be. The four guys at the center were not as annoying as the rest of the characters, at least. And Ritchie does seem to have a knack for crafting an intricate, Tarantino-esque scenario with some clever business. The jokes weren't that great, but they weren't groaners either.

This movie is EPIC! The sub-plots collide at the perfect moment when nothing could get any worse for the main characters, or anyone else for that matter. It is a twisting tale of unknown betrayal and unkind life in the gangster world in London.

Refreshing and entertaining - Guy Ritchie's debut shows what a spirited newcomer can do with a small budget. Sure, neither the story nor the characters are entirely believable, but if you let yourself be drawn in by this tongue-in-cheek film, you're in for a hell of a ride. As with the later "Snatch", the montages, slow-mos and odd camera angles Ritchie seems to be so fond of greatly reinforce the screwy character of all the elements that make this movie so brilliant. Twisted, violent, funny.

With its freeze-frames, innovative camera angles and beery brown colour tint, Guy Ritchie's debut is packed with visual style. Combined with its seedy locations, sketchy characters and Cockney slang, this makes a very distinctive and memorable world in which to set a movie. And the story itself is no disappointment - a mixed-up medley of all sorts of miscreants crossing paths and crossing swords. It's nothing short of the British Pulp Fiction. The only thing it lacks is a little more polish.

It was pretty much exactly what I might have expected. Slick writing, exciting action and a couple of standout performances (especially Vinnie Jones). Ritchie's first big hit is by far his most entertaining. Too bad everything went downhill from here. Great film, though.

The movie has a unique style throughout. I realized later that it is Guy Ritchie's signature style. Intriguing plot involving gangs. Has humour as well as action and thrill. Jason Statham stands out in the movie. Definite must watch.

Tarantino is clearly being aped here and it works for the large part, without being amazing. Snappy lines and editing keeps things moving at a brisk pace but there's nothing in it that makes me want to rewatch it ever. Also doing so would remind me of the meteoric rise of two of the most formulaic people in British cinema, Ritchie and Statham.

2nd viewing: You gotta hand it to Sting. Judging on this and Stormy Monday, he's a great actor. Anyways, to the point: For all it's frantic and speedy wits, desperately seeking to make on-liner-homeruns, this film fails. Combined with the overdone colorgrading, extreme frog-perspective and wide-angle lens-shots, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels just becomes a weak version of Snatch or Boondock Saints. Having said all this, the last half hour IS extremely entertaining and worth the trouble.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a lot of fun once you get past the first 45 minutes or so. The earlier parts aren't bad, per se, but they don't even hold a candle to the second half, which is absolutely perfect in pretty much every way. It is filled with so much irony, misunderstanding, humor, and violence -- it's so much fun that it's impossible to describe it. Go watch this movie just for its second half.

If it falls just below the perfection of SNATCH, Guy Ritchie's first feature is still a brilliant entertainment, weaving together 6 or 7 (it's hard to tell) sets of characters, but focusing on a quartet of friends desperately trying to raise £500,000 to pay off the fearsome Hatchet Harry. Ritchie's script is a dazzling dance of crime, cunning, and confusion; the cast is wonderful all around, and the soundtrack couldn't be better chosen. Pure delight from beginning to end.

Guy Ritchie burst onto the scene with this clever crime caper. It's interesting that he released a couple of great movies, married Madonna, went through a slump, divorced Madonna, and then hits it big with the Sherlock Holmes series. Interesting indeed.

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is the first Guy Richie movie I ever watched. The characters that were brought together in this story are fleshed out and very memorable. This was American's introduction to Jason Statham who has since become a huge star but, at the time, was just one of four guys in this crime caper. The writing in this movie is funny and clever. It was especially cool to see the use of subtitles to accentuate the differences in language.

I watched Snatch quite a while before I ever saw this one. I can definitely feel the similarities between the two, but Snatch is just bigger and more nicely put together. Even for some of it's flaws, this movie is just a ton of fun. The characters are great, the comedy and wit is great and just the absurdness of it all in the final act is probably a landmark for myself in cinema. I want to see more of this Guy Ritchie, why can't we get more of this?

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels is one of my all time favourite British films. Guy Ritchie's directorial debut has everything, sharp direction, memorable characters and a hilarious & memorable script. The multiple plot threads and characters crossing paths makes for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. And the stellar cast boasts hilarious and quotable performances from Jones, Moran, Statham, Flemyng, Fletcher, McLean, Moriarty, Blackwood, McGuire, Abraham, Sweeney, Marcus, McNicholl and Harper.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a great film that showcases Ritchie's propensity for plot, pacing and comedy; all things that I enjoyed in this film. However, as his first feature film, it also shows his limitations with respect to aesthetic. I didn't particularly like the yellow hue, claustrophobic shots or gritty production, which in fairness are partly due to budget. Overall, it's a fun film that's definitely worth the watch.
