Let's talk Ghost Logic for a moment. I know it's kind of a touchy subject, because it involves God's sovereignty and Natural Law and a bunch of other theological concepts not very popular nowadays. But you picked a demon movie in a convent, so you brought it on yourselves. Ghosts can bend the laws of nature, but can't break them. They can lead human minds to madness, but can't just take them over willy-nilly. The moment these concepts are broken, the scare isn't scary. It's stupid.

A welcome addition to the series. Historically, horror sequels and spin offs take a dramatic nose dive in quality by the fifth installment, but this series is still going strong. When you compare it to the "The Conjuring," there's no contest. This one is lighter on scares, yet ups the ante on physical danger. But when you compare it to the vast majority of horror movies out there, "The Nun" is still a wildly entertaining and thrilling horror movie.

I had some mixed feelings about this. I thought the nun was creepy towards the beginning of The Conjuring 2, but less creepy the more I saw her in the film. I felt the same way about her in this. I also didn't think all of the characters were done extremely well, but I guess that's okay for a 90 minute movie that's just a filler. Decent cinematography, production design, and acting, but it could have been scarier. It ties into the universe better than I thought it would.

It's bland and doesn't earn its jump scares, while also not being the worst horror movie I've ever seen. They overused the actual nun and it lost its impact. I think they should have kept her imagery locked away for a little and then when you finally fully see her it would have been more terrifying, because the character works in very small doses. Every other element is okay but whatever, I wouldn't recommend seeing it unless you're a Conjuringverse fanatic, which I'm not.

The fun (if derivative) first half works as an atmospheric semi throwback to the Hammer stable, replete with gothic castles and ominous premonitions (it helps if you have a weakness for cheapie horror flicks which pile on the religious imagery and priests!) Turns somewhat flat and rote in its second half, treading the more familiar ground of the jump scares, and becoming silly and overwrought (and not in a fun way). Still a passable time-killer which will meet any low expectations.

Took a short hiatus from reviewing but this is one of the films I ended up seeing in my break. I'm not surprised but I was a little disappointed in The Nun. It doesn't live up to the hype started by The Conjuring 2, and easily outawkwards any film in this franchise thus far. That being said, despite bad characters and dialogue, it has some good scares and interesting concepts, and still outperforms the first Annabelle. Just kind of forgettable, though.

This isn't the original Conjuring, not by a long shot. I feel like I've reached that point with this franchise that I have with Paranormal Activity: the main reason I'm watching is to keep track of the lore, which, isn't really a great reason to be watching if we're being honest. The highlight was arguably when a grown-ass adult man turned around to a group of teenagers and told them to kill themselves and shut up. That's not in the movie, that was in my theatre. So you don't get to see that.

The first half is practically a passable Dracula movie with a nice Hammer Horror production design. But it is never remotely scary. I don't believe that was the point.

The Conjuring universe is becoming stale, and The Nun is basically another missed opportunity, wasting a promising character and a spooky location on a rather humdrum story that reads like a bad first draft. The dialogue is purely functional, and the acting is poor apart from Farmiga who is earnest but dull as a young nun who encounters Valak, the demonic nun. Moreover, Hardy relies too heavily on jump scares, so the chilling gothic atmosphere of the prologue is never adequately sustained.

Holy shit. The holiest. The Nun lacked with the story. It was full of visual scares. Visions. They are visions was the excuse. There was not much of character building. And one liners. I hated one liners. They did not fit the story at all. Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor from Conjuring visited in the very end of the story.

Found this movie quite dull and left me with no real investment into the characters. Had a few cheap jump scares, but nothing to really scare or match anything from the two conjuring movies. Average film at best.

I loved Valak in The Conjuring 2, and enjoy Taissa Farmiga so was hoping for the best for this. I didn't hate it, but it got a little tiresome that they used the same scare trick over and over. It's limited how effecting seeing a shadow in nuns clothing lurking slowly waiting to see it's face for the jump scare. Did anyone count how many times they did the slow nun zooms?

I've never been one for the Conjuring franchise, and this definitely doesn't change my opinion of it. The Nun feels like a "check box" of various elements that are presented in horror today, and done so in a way that comes off cliche. It lacked originally, and while I didn't care too much for the Nun herself from the Conjuring 2, I went in with the idea it's a new character and a fresh start, and I gotta say I think non fans and regular fans on the series will both be disappointed.

The gothic setting is tailor made for a slow-building, suspenseful, dread inducing film. Too bad they decided to go with a grey, jump-scared riddled, dreary piece of shit instead.

Having at least liked every film in the Conjuring series so far, it'd be hard for me to not like this one. Although the scares aren't as effective or unexpected as before, the Gothic castle setting is right up my Hammer Studios alley. The biggest problem is that the film's "rules" for itself are inconsistent if you're not into the visuals. For example: if the nuns' prayers were already keeping the evil at bay, how/why did 2 of them set it free? & why didn't Evil take the new body from the start?

The Nun is certainly visually appealing, and is dripping with atmosphere. For those who like horror movies simply for scares, it will probably work fine. For those who demand some worthwhile story and character, this is a dissapointing entry in the franchise.

I was exited about this movie. Saw it a while back and can remember shiet about it. Except that a dude was buried alive and that scene was kinda cool with something about jingles. I have no recollection how this movie ended. I think that speaks volumes of how "memorable" this instalment of the Conjuring series was. Edit: But to its credit, I don't remember it specifically sucking either.

I won't lie: The beginning had me well and truly creeped out. But the ending which was basically a big dumb boss fight was a letdown. And it didn't help that I was confused about some details in the movie, which I then found out had been explained in a deleted scene.

An overblown bore, lacking in the mechanically efficient scare scenes that make the better movies in this "universe" (the 1st Conjuring & Annabelle: Creation) effective, if hollow, scare-delivery vehicles. I've always been leery of how seriously this series takes the the Warrens' convictions a/b the reality of metaphysical Good & Evil, but in the better movies it doesn't hamper enjoyment until the climaxes. With The Nun I think you might need to be Catholic to get invested at all.

Nuns are inherently creepy, I liked the setting and the cinematography, and there were a couple of slightly freaky scenes. Unfortunately, the plot was pretty basic and boring, and the characters were much the same. Their dialogue was really bad, too. I felt like the direction and editing could've been better as well; there were a few scenes where the tension was broken because of these things. Also, they totally ripped off Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995).

I was a big fan of James Wan when he did some of his earlier work; Insidious, Conjuring etc, but in recent years I feel that he has lost his way completely. The orginality and scare factor in his recent movies are non existent. The nun was probably the worst show-time horror movie of the last 10 years. Completely waste of my time.
