Depressing, uplifting, funny, terrifying, and just downright great. The story is so compelling and it's shot and made so well that I don't know how anyone couldn't love it. Why We Fight had me in tears as did many of the other episodes. My only complaint: I wish there was more footage of the actual veterans being interviewed.

This is the most epic, visually stunning, all encompassing war "film" of all time. Of course strictly speaking it is a mini-series which helps in forming a bond with the characters who are based on actual soldiers many of whom were alive during the filming and create an incredible sense of reality with a foreword for each episode. It is engaging from start to finish, despite what you know about WWII you will be in awe at what the soldiers faced together and it is sure to tap into your emotions!

The last words: "No, I was not a hero, but I served in a company of heroes" touched me, and they're what this series is all about. Showing the Easy Company in its high and its low times, the viewer is left with the upmost respect for every one of those soldiers. Now, I must say that since the whole series was shot from the perspective of Easy Company (and thus the Americans), it makes for a one-way conversation about the war, but nevertheless, it sure gives you a very touching view.

This scores very high with me. I'm a big fan of war movies and it's very rare for a series to hold my interest. I avidly watched this from the beginning and when it was over, I didn't know what to do with myself. The characters were amazing and I felt for quite a few of them. Very well done.

It's strong and they act really well. Some episodes are CLEARLY better than other, though. Still, one of the better attempts to picture WW2 we've seen recent years, and the modern war films are allready trying to copy this one's (it's a series, I know) style, editing, technique in general. Few succeed.

If you wanna learn something about D-day and it's aftermath, drop your history books and enjoy this exciting ride. By far the longest "film" I've ever seen, better than "Saving Private Ryan", which had more of a Hollywood feel to it. "Band of Brothers" focused more on the heroic and unforgettable characters, the acting was superb, and the action sequences were amazing. It was not until the last couple of episodes (Breaking Point, Why we Fight) that I was completely sold. Recommended !!!

Band of Brothers shows why war is hell, but more to the point it shows you how people dealt with it and how fragile the relationships formed were. In the flash of an explosion you can lose your best friends, or your legs, or your life. The episode "Why We Fight" really hit me.

I could just as easily compare this to "Saving Private Ryan", and argue how the cinematography, scenery, and acting surpasses the extremely high bar set by that film, but that would do absolutely no justice in explaining what a complex and moving work of cinema this is. The series never loses its luster, delivering one deep, intense, character-driven episode after another. The amazing experiences that these men went through, and their often-tragic effects, are captured perfectly on film.

It's a very professional production with mostly unknown but memorable actors, and some riveting storylines. But part of me feels like maybe Godard had it right in Les Carabiniers... that the only responsible way to depict war is to take all the heroism and excitement and nobility out of it. On the other hand, I'm inclined to make an exception for WWII, which was a war fought for such undeniably good reasons. At any rate, the bottom line is I was generally impressed, but not terribly fond of it.

Nearly 20 years late to the party, I can now see why this has been so highly rated for years. I was surprised at the loose narrative structure as I expected a more traditional dramatic narrative like a ten hour SPR. Instead the episodes focus on key moments for the real life soldiers of Easy Company when they fought in Europe in WWII. Because real life isn't always dramatic many stories and characters just fade in and out during the series, but adds to the true to life authentic experience here

Amazing lengthy series works perfectly in mixing action, and really getting to know some of the characters (thus making some of the events hit even harder) in order to weave a gritty, stunning sometimes funny look at the look at the European campaign in WWII. There aren't enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe what must be THE benchmark for all future TV serials. It's got everything: great direction, fantastic action, top-notch acting, marvellous script... But what really works is the characters themselves; as their time in Europe unfolds our knowledge about them as individuals steadily grows, the picture expanding and their fate becoming that much more important. Real heart, but avoiding the cheesiness. And a true story to boot. Stunning.

Schmaltzy, but mostly it's just embarrassing, especially during those weepy interview segments and that tediously self-indulgent opening credit sequence. As always, Spielberg does a fine job with the battle sequences, but he's more interested in portraying brave American soldiers saluting the flag while shouting platitudes and bible verses as they mow down zombified nazis than with capturing anything genuine. It's just so fucking simplistic and juvenile.

It's hard to find complaints in this vivid portrayal of Easy Company throughout their tour of duty. As far as technical production there is no equal to Band of Brothers regarding World War II's combat subject matter, even fantastic frenetic war scenes like the storming of the beach in Saving Private Ryan have a hard time keeping up with the consistency and eloquent direction in Band of Brothers. This is a defining achievement in film in regards to World War II and should not be missed.

Pet peeve time: This isn't a movie, I hate when people say that this is their favorite war movie. That being said, it's still an excellent miniseries that is above and beyond the quality of most movies and is very arguably the best work of film on World War II ever produced (though I'll still take Bridge On the River Kwai). The comparisons to Saving Private Ryan are inevitable; personally, though it's more all-encompassing, I found the battle scenes in SPR more involving, so I'd call it even.

Drenched in sentiment and comes with the chore that is the 2.5 minutes of opening credits, but those criticisms are slim pickings in a series that includes Jimmy Fallon's most hilarious role to date.

Whoever thought of the idea to remake Saving Private Ryan as a 10-hour long miniseries using genuine interviews with veterans as the frame instead is a genius. Engaging, intense, and overwhelming; all the little moments pay off at the end of Why We Fight.

The best series I have ever seen. This series is truly special. The fact that they have the veterans back up everything you see is amazing. The greatest generation at its finest.

Great series. Very haunting. After seeing it I felt so much respect for the old veterans that shared their stories. Very well done. I liked 'The Pacific' even more.
