Had I seen this in my (pre)teen years, I would've thought this was cool, hip, even slightly romantic and completely true in regards to how hacking/the internet works. I would've crushed hard on Vulcan Jolie and thought dressing/behaving as an utter douche was acceptable. Seeing this for the first time in the pre-apocalypse year of 2017, I can only laugh and cringe. So deliciously '90's Hollywood' that it almost works as a hilarious, reality-avoiding security blanket.

More than 20 years later this film is still pretty fun. There are certain laugh out loud moments and you just have to feel that 90's nostalgia. It's not really a good film, but it's an enjoyable one. And Angelina Jolie with short-hair? Yes, please. Her alone gets +10 from me, it would be a 51 without her.

I'm a little embarrassed, and I apologize to anybody offended by the high score here. I hate that I love this movie. It came out in my formative years, around the time when I was totally a computer nerd. So I'm a total hypocrite, since the way computers are portrayed here is totally ridiculous.

Shitting on this movie because the hacking isn't realistic is like shitting on Indiana Jones because the archaeology scenes aren't a guy sitting in an office reading books for days. Hackers defined what I considered cool as a kid, and is still really entertaining to watch as an adult. Plus, that soundtrack. The sound of the 90s, if you can call it a sound. Dumb, but quality.

Okay, so the technology side of things is (with a few exceptions) unusually bad, even for Hollywood - but what this film captured was the essence of the *culture* of the hacking community, as it viewed itself from the inside. It's also got a pretty decent soundtrack.

Well. A film where eh...Fisher Stevens and Wendell Pierce chew the scenery to a great degree and the aesthetics of the film mix garish clothing and techno music with practical effects highlighting ridiculous fictional computer GUIs. I have no real clue what the plot is. Incoherent, messy, and still predictable. Gets by on it's great sense of unique style and a banging soundtrack. And a good, if underutilised, cast.

Films that are all style and no substance run the risk of looking really foolish when their style goes out of style. What if it never really was in style? This film has less than no substance. It leeches substance away from neighboring films. Angelina Jolie looks quite a bit like Mr. Spock in this film. Good Lord did I hate this.

I think I just seen bits of this flick close to when it was released and didn't think much of it. Watched the full movie recently and thought it was pretty good even though the tech is clearly dated and probably at the time pretty far-fetched or inaccurate. A very young Jolie is still a joy and Lilliard already has his quirky style going on, which actually works well in this flick.

One of the most hilariously shit-bad films of the 90s. It should probably score about 20%, but there's so much guilty pleasure involved. It's like watching a teacher who grew up in an age of punched card computers trying to get down with the kids. In its defense, the soundtrack is pretty bitchin', and Angelina Jolie is a pretty hot Romulan.

Oh the joy of nostalgia! What happens in this movie? Hackers type slowly, computers look cooler inside than they did in Tron or Jurassic Park, Angelina Jolie has some crazy outfits, awesome soundtrack and Fisher Stevens makes a very unthreathing villain who doesn't know how to skateboard. Which reminds me of my secret dream where I travel to an alternative dimension where Michael Wincott has replaced Fisher Stevens in Hackers. Trust your technolust! Hack the planet!

OK, so its not near future, but these kids have the glorified underground hacker thing down. In Hackers, every computer is networked and available for hacking. Hackers gives us a plethora of cool computer imagery cut scenes, 3D buildings serving as file share stores, and lots of underground punk visuals. These visuals are packed into a nicely paced movie that makes the outlandish story of high stakes theft, environmental destruction and hacker antiheroes fun to watch.

It's got a pretty good cast, all of whom at this point probably wish this movie didn't exist. But it does, and it's gleefully awful, its depiction of technology and the internet were DOA as soon as it hit theatres. This makes for a lot of unintentional hilarity, and the movie is a lot of fun for all the wrong reasons. A camp classic of the 90s.

A film destined to age well. Maybe some will be annoyed by this, but I was actually charmed by the film's spirit, with its abundance of wacky costumes, sets, and characters. Yeah, the hacking is all bullshit (when is it not in a movie?), but the point is more about the very specific world these old-looking teens reside in, and how they view the cynical outer world with contempt, yet optimism amongst their community. It's better when it's sillier, and it sadly loses a bit of that in second half.

90s trash culture is hard to justify or explain. Angelina Jolie makes my skin crawl, Jonny Lee Miller Carries the film with Matthew Lillard, and the diversity actors do OK enough that no one minds too much. Combining the two most timeless elements of the 90s (technology and grunge), the tech stuff feels suspiciously like throwing enough gobbledygook around to confuse newbies and amuse the veterans without much apparent insight, but taken on those terms it's a fun and entertaining ride, with a good cast leaning in to the silliness of it; why wasn't Stevens ever cast as a flamboyant Bond villain? Softley brings a nice, gritty eye to this which offsets the expected slick look.

This was a *super* fun movie about how US intelligence services work for corporations and the rich and care not an ounce for the rights of the rest of us criminals-in-waiting. Plus, for all the random computer-y visuals, it had a lot more real hacking knowledge in it than I expected, stuff like social engineering and the NSA Red Book. The aesthetic is wonderful, none of these characters are straight (Ramon in particular is clearly nonbinary), they're all terrible awkward nerds and I love it.

Inaccuracies aside, this movie was very stylish in its wardrobe and depiction of hacking. If this were a Matrix movie people wouldn't mind. Spock Jolie. The male lead wasn't as interesting as the diverse cast. We make fun of the hacking but even nowadays most people don't know how computers work anyway. Would be nice to get a sequel focusing on social engineering. Fav scene: the mind melting trash talk.

Then I learned how to use a computer, and started doing some programming of my own. Hacking isn't nearly as cool. I mean, you can still do cool stuff with computers, but you won't look "Zero Cool" while doing it. No one is going to know your awesome hacker nickname like you're some sort of computer Banksy.
