This brilliant show has the most exciting mystery and some of the most awesome characters of all time. Also, Michael Giacchino's score which ranges from adrenaline-fueled to heartbreaking is superhuman, and the phenomenal cliffhanger in the season 3 finale is no less than the most amazing moment, I've experienced in any narrative. 'Lost' is, in short, my favorite TV show. Ever.

Those who hated the finale (you know who you are) missed the point of the show. From the very beginning, the mysteries were always in service of the characters, not the other way around. The characters' arcs and ultimate destinies were rich, fascinating, and satisfying. One of network television's crowning achievements.

This viewer got lost, unfortunately. And seemingly because the show got lost. Putting a bunch of people named after philosophers on an island, the state of nature, it operated on suggested, future intricacies, but it was left with nothing once it became a success, and these intricacies had yet to be thought of.

I wish I could effectively communicate how much I love this show or what it means to me. I know I can't do it here and even since finishing it, I haven't been able to fully formulate my thoughts about it. All I know is that I do not think I have ever experienced more well written or well explored characters in any other program.

Lost's finale ruins the show by retroactively dissolving the smoke and mirrors of the entire series. It becomes clear the entire foundation of the series was false promises and a complete lack of respect for the audience, as we're supposed to take nonsense at face value because it's "all about the characters." My hatred is at least slightly mitigated by some incredible acting and some of the best bottle episodes ever on TV.

Up until Shannon dies halfway through the second season, this show is magical. It falters after that, occasionally regaining its creative energy, like when it introduces Ana Lucia, only to lose it again. When it's good, it's excellent. When it's bad--which is at least 60 percent of its run--it's an infuriating, bewildering chore to get through.

From beginning to end LOST proves itself as one of the best pieces of fiction ever put to television. The characters are all amazingly complex and flawed. The story is confusing but well thought out. And despite some complains, the ending is on point and tear jerking right to the very end.

I definitely consider this the best show I've ever seen. For a few years, Doctor Who took that spot as it had such great writing and had such a variety of storytelling and characters, but over time, LOST retook that spot as DW lowered in quality. I'm rewatching it right now and it holds up extremely well, even 16 years after it aired. Also: So many people misunderstood the ending, so just ignore anything anybody says about how it ends.

This was one of the most engaging shows ever in it's first 3 seasons. Every episode left you with new questions that hooked you into the next one and forced you to keep watching. The show started to fall off the rails in Season 4 with the "freighter" people showing up. Season 5 was weird but still kind of interesting with the time travel aspect, but then the show was ruined by Season 6 which had one of the lamest endings in tv history.

As a series, Lost's only truly great season is its first. Things steadily start going nowhere as the mysteries and pointless island lore start building up. In the end, the show never provides any character with a satisfying arc and ends with one of the most insulting endings of any modern TV series.

Lost was what first set me on the slippery slope that is my addiction to binge watching. It's undeniably a good looking show with plenty of interesting ideas. It also suffers from a lack of clear vision, and what has now become know as JJ's addiction to "mystery boxes". At its best, it is a well-written, well-paced show that has you on the edge of your sofa, expanding the narrative structure of TV. By the end, it couldn't wrap up everything it had unleashed, leaving a decent but lesser finale.

The grade of 60 is how I feel about Lost after its finale. Had you had me grade it a year earlier, I'd probably have given it an 85. The problem is, Lost set up such a complex set of questions about this mysterious island and its inhabitants that when it finally answers them (heck- DOES it answer them, really?), it's not just unsatisfying- it's an insulting cop-out. You really CAN ruin a show with an ending this bad.

Damon Lindelof is my least favorite person in Hollywood. He's certainly not the least talented guy, but he's actually much worse than that. He's a guy with very little talent who has somehow convinced the world he's a genius deserving of big projects. And then he ruins them.

Original idea. The plot sometimes turns in unexpected ways and you want to watch the next episode to see what happens next. Deep elaboration of each character. This is a plus, but at the same time a minus, because we have to watch flashbacks of each character, and not all of them, or rather more than half of them, are not so interesting. The flashbacks times take up almost half of the series' timeline. It can be boring.

Lost is a show that clearly suffers from lack of planning. The characters carry an otherwise slapdash script and the mystery-box concepts end with far too much "well, magic, I guess?" than the first couple seasons would have you believe. However, it is telling that I can still recall each character by name including their entire backstory. If you like characters, Lost might be good enough, but everything else slowly implodes on itself.

The supernatural framing is an excuse to tell little slipstream stories about people that would be hard to fit into any other mainstream television. Lost started fantastic, but as fans realized that there were mysteries that were never going to be satisfyingly solved, and these mysteries kept piling up, it became apparent the writers didn't have a clue where the series was going, and the latter seasons are almost painful to watch. Really hard to rank. At times it is one of the greatest shows ever made, at times it is one of the most arrogant, cliche-ridden messes ever put to screen, big or small. The first season, which i have watched three times, as opposed to the entire series which i have seen twice, is one of the most fascinating, intense, intimate, intriguing and grandest seasons that any TV show has ever had. The pilot, and entire first season, were pretty phenomenal. I showed the season 1 DVD set to everyone I knew and was OBSESSED with the show around 2004-05. Rewatched S1 three times. Then came all the tailies that were immediately killed off, and the cages, and the time travel, then, in a final prank, the show went all weird and religious in its intensely godawful series finale, and I went out the next day and sold my S1 DVD set. So sad. "It was always about the characters!" Fuck off Lindelof.

Then by the end everything unraveled and NONE OF THE MYSTERIES ARE RESOLVED!!! I watched every episode right up until the final second, but felt like I'd been duped. Oh dear, how do I rate this? The first two seasons sucked me in like no other show since Twin Peaks but as it went along it became increasingly clear that the writers had absolutely no idea where they were going with the story. It remains highly watchable to the end but feels more and more like a huge joke on your expense. Not unfunny or miserable (quite the opposite in fact) but you feel kinda like an idiot for falling straight into it. Mostly fine cast manage to play it straight somehow.

A good old fashioned mystery adventure, cleverly constructed, and for the most part two steps ahead of it's audience, keeping the gradual reveal engaging almost throughout.
