Heckerling did this? The same woman who directed "Fast Times" and "Clueless"? Holy moly. I defy you to laugh at any of the "comedic" situations presented within. They knock over Stonehedge! A dog jumps off the Eifel Tower chasing after a beret! The French are arrogant and don't like Americans! ARE YOU LAUGHING YET???? A sad waste of Eric Idle, too. Worth it only for the 30-second montage at the Louvre featuring that kick-ass French song that I won't even try and spell correctly.

great use of plastic bertrand's "ca plane pour moi", and the shower scene with beverly d'angelo did give brief thrills to my 13 year old self. otherwise, a sad continuation of a classic movie.

Decent. But it's less funny than 'Vacation' and 'Christmas Vacation'. Eric Idle's cameo is enjoyable.

All of the Holiday Road you loved from the original Vacation, none of the Christie Brinkley. In other words, if Jerry Lewis had made a painfully unfunny movie about the Holocaust and never released it to the public, this would have been it.

Certainly the poor "Cousin Eddie" of the VACATION franchise in every way - this looks cheap, seedy and ugly from the first frame (the game show is a hideous curtain raiser) - while Chase and D'Angelo wring out a couple of good laughs, this quickly devolves into a frantic, scattershot farce with no discernible through-line - even comedies need a focus and goal, otherwise they live and die on the strength of their skits. A crude and sniggery view of women this time round leaves a bad aftertaste.

I've never really liked this one even as a kid and watching it now It didn't even hold up to my low expectations. Most of the film is painfully unfunny and filled with bad montages used for padding on a film that would've worked better as a 15 minute SNL skit.

I hold the unpopular opinion that the franchise was still good at this point. It may have something to do with the fact that we watched this a couple weeks before my family went on our European vacation or the fact that it was the first of the series that I saw. Either way, it still holds a place in my heart, but is probably due for a rewatch and reassessment.

My favorite Vacation movie. Yes, that's right. I hated first one because it was so mean. This one is even more slapstick-y and with one-shade darker humour, but it works for me. Beverly D'Angelo is one hell of a MILF.

This is a weak outing in the series. There are a couple of funny moments but they don't add up to much. The kids are really weak in this movie. They make the character Audrey really annoying and Rusty is very one note. Watch the first or third ones instead.

I'm a staunch defender of Vacation and Christmas Vacation, and will defend them to my dying day. (I think both are in my all-time top 100.) But this.. this just isn't anywhere near as good.

I'd say it's as good as the first. Clark reminds us so much of my father, it's hysterical. Perfected later with "Christmas" which added heart and feeling and sentimentality.

I thought this was a pretty good movie as a kid, and now as an adult I can still see the humour buried in most of the jokes. Unfortunately, the screenplay is pretty hackish and Chevy Chase no longer shows much of the charm he had in the first Vacation; instead we only see his attempted slapstick routine. Still worth watching.

Definitely not up to par with the first one, although Chevy Chase still makes me laugh. Not a fan of the recast kids, especially not the replacement of Anthony Michael Hall with some douchebag. Too many potentially comedic situations are introduced (i.e. Rusty getting a hooker) only to be swept aside with no payoff whatsoever.

A very disappointing sequel to the classic "Vacation." This time the bumbling Griswolds travel to Europe and get involved in a serious case of culture clash. Sadly unfunny throughout.

Not the best of The Chevy Vacation movies. Even so I can't help but find it very funny and Mel Smith's cameo is awesome. Also D'Angelo was mighty fine in her day.

The worst of the Vacation films, but it's still rather fun to see Chase and D'Angelo in their prime along with cameos from British comedians. It feels older than '85 - almost like a 70's film. It has surprisingly much sex, un-PC humor and it draws a very cliched and unpleasant picture of Europe. Most of the jokes don't work that well, but some do - like the German folk dance sequence. Not for annual rotation, but like the latter Vegas Vacation, I can re-watch this occasionally.

Sending the Griswald's to Europe was a good idea that clearly distinguishes it from the original. Some critics have complained that the comedy is too reliant on cultural stereotypes. While it's true that the Italians are especially given a bum rap as perverts and cheats, the film is really lampooning the ugly American that's devoid of world knowledge. The humour works best when exploiting cultural clashes based on ignorance, but the film devolves into silly chase mode in the final reel.

The English stereotyping was a lot of fun - spot on. The Holiday song started getting kind of catchy too. However, the film is too bland and there is too much americana, especially in the ending sequences.

Applying the same principle to Europe makes for a very decent and at times hilarious sequel to the first film, even if it takes things a little too far at times (descending into farce). The 'Big Ben, Parliament' scene is a highlight.

Good for some laughs, but they are too few and far between. The memorable scenes (see the hotel room mix-up in England and the case of mistaken identity in Germany) are sparse amidst many slow and awkward ones where the humour tries but always falls just a bit short. The bad-guy-chase side-plot, meanwhile, feels cheap and does little to spice up the standard and uninspired mishap-laden plot. Altogether, the movie fails to ever pick up steam and consequently feels disjointed and boring.

It was hard to find any funny bits in this movie. Sure a few did exist. The parts where they bumped into Eric Idle were okay. The German dancing scene was okay. There were even a couple of classic National Lampoon's sweet family style moments. Overall this movie is pretty trash. I find Dana Hill utterly annoying. The boy who plays Rusty is okay but I like some of the other Rusty's more. I'm sure even fans of the series will say this is the worst one that they made. I'd take Vegas over this one.

Vacation (1983) didn't do a whole lot for me, but it wasn't a bad film. With this one though, they really didn't even try. It's pretty much a rehash of the first film, but it doesn't have the same charm. It's a shame they had to recast the kids, too. Eric Idle was probably the best part of the movie. It's not funny or memorable, and it's kind of a waste of a sequel.

This hasn't really aged well. It's not that funny and really fishes at the cheap stereotypes all the time rather than doing something more original. Americans are pigs, French hate everyone, British are way too polite (or just trashy, I guess). The kids are super annoying in this one and most of the jokes fail to be funny. Points for Eric Idle and Mel Smith, though.
