It tries desperately to please with a ridiculous, actually quite hilarious all-in-one kind of entertainment. Literally, it's all there: CGI and slowmo and bad 3D, action figures, buddy jokes, military coolness, Dwayne's silly smiles, Willis' self-conscious cameo, a couple of strong chicks, ninjas, machine guns, AKs, drones, nukes, global terrorism, heroes taken down, heroes rising, a where-did-this-come-from-? flashback to explain why Storm Shadow will be a good guy in the next scenes. Messy.

After watching this I paused a moment to reflect on the sense of shame and guilt I had for enjoying it. It's everything that I know and should hate about modern blockbusters but yet..it has fucking ninjas man! They did the smart thing and made half the movie about Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. It was almost enough to overcome the insultingly stupid plot. I have no idea what RZA was doing in this. I started to laugh every time I saw him. Ray Stevensen looks a lot like young Tom Sizemore.

Back in the 80's, companies that made toys like G.I. Joe and Transformers would take existing molds, modify them, then use different colored plastics, paint or stickers to make "new" action figures. It might be something you already have or seen before, but it may be just different enough. Seems like Hasbro recalled this technique and applied it to their movies.

Only marginally better than the last installment, this features the dumbest nuclear missle-related evil plot since Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Absolutely idiotic, everyone pretty much phones it in and the only gleams of light are a few relatively OK action scenes. The last G.I. Joe made me angry, this just made me bored, and I'm not really sure that's an improvement. The 3D is a disaster.

Leagues better than the first G.I. Joe movie, but still barely above average. It's at its best when reveling in gleeful action sequences and over-the-top ninja battles, and at its worst whenever it gets bogged down by dull exposition in an attempt to explain a preposterous plot. At times feels like a mindless video game, which is probably close to its aspirations. Despite all of that I found it an enjoyable time. Fans of the franchise and 80's action flicks will likely find a lot to love.

It veers between good, tongue-in-cheek dumb (stuff with Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander bursting into a meeting of world leaders and declaring that now they all answer to him), and just dumb dumb (most everything else). Still, looking over 2013's action flicks so far, you should see this before Olympus Has Fallen or Jack the Giant Slayer.

The kind of movie I watch between my night shifts, when my brain is slow & doesn't want to work. Not even that could save this! It's not that its no fun at all, it's just way too long & not enough fun to justify just how dumb it is. The stupidity is just too much to put up with for two hours, & in the end becomes tiresome. RZA is the movie's highlight though; so terrible he's almost brilliant, so miscast it's almost satirical! Even in a cheesy shitfest like this he's well out of his depth.

Entertaining at times, but not the least bit memorable (actually that's not entirely true, I'll remember the hip-hop blind ninja master). The action scenes are numerous, rife with quick-cuts, generic, and mostly low-impact. The ninjas are flashy but remarkably inept. In summary, yet another loud and dumb run-of-the-mill action flick.

PSA: It's shit. They spent a year and a half to figure out what to do to add to Channing Tatum's character being killed, and they came up with him playing Xbox with the Rock. OR WAS IT THE BATTLE SEQUENCE FOOTAGE. This felt like 3 blech movies mashed together into one SUPER BLECH movie.

I know it's a tall order to ask for logic in a movie, whose writer obviously must have coke OD'd before he could have connected the dots in the script's first draft; BUT... in the last scene, where the Joes have the drop on Cobra - why exactly is it that they wait until AFTER London has been annihilated? What is it they have against European capitals? ... Some decent action, though, and Jonathan Pryce seemed to be enjoying himself.

Well, I liked it a whole lot better than G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009). It's on a smaller scale, which I don't necessarily think is a bad thing. A big problem for me was that certain characters were either missing, recast or even killed off. Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis were good additions anyway. RZA, however, was goddamn awful. Some decent fight/action scenes. A couple of amusing moments. So, yeah, still a stupid movie, but not as stupid as the first one.

Although it is an improvement from the first flick, I still cannot say I enjoyed it. I welcomed the better plot and Bruce Willis participation, but I could barely stand the bad acting and annoyingly cheesy dialog. I was also very happy about what happened to Duke Hauser. Watch this if you've had a tough week and just want something to stare at while you empty your mind.

Did you like The Rise of Cobra? If you did, this is more of the same, just with a different team and a smaller scale. If you didn't, it will continue to offend your intelligence, sensibilities, common sense, and anything else you want to claim it offends. There are an abundance of action scenes, a lacking of plot, character development, and anything remotely resembling depth. It's well-paced and has at least one good moment, but asking me to remember it even a few hours later is a struggle.

Tedious, messy and unnecessarily convoluted. While I do prefer my action movies with an interesting plot, and I don't expect a masterpiece, this isn't the way to do it. Throwing out a bunch of bland characters with assumed backstory makes me less interested, not more. The leads are reasonably charismatic, though which makes it not a total bore.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation had a lot of things going for it such as intense action scenes and some good humor. It also just didn't stand out of the action movie crowd. I don't know what I was expecting out of this film but I know it wasn't an empty feeling. Thank goodness for the fight scene on the mountain to spice things up. Ray Park as Snake Eyes did a fantastic job with the stunts. Adrianne Palicki brought on the sex appeal. The other leads, um... who were they again? Pretty forgettable.

They chose to make this less cheesy and more serious, unfortunately this worked against it not for it. Where the first movie was a live action cartoon fun, this one ended up being bland and boring. Jokes and performances both fall flat. the soundtrack is pretty atrocious and fails in every way. Mild, brainless, forgettable fun that isn't too painful to sit through. Just remember not low expectations but no expectations is the way to go into this sequel.

I liked the first GI Joe movie, and this one was a bit better. It had its problems but I still think it was a entertaining action movie. I do wish a few more of the characters from the first movie returned. We don't even get a throwaway line about the whereabouts of Ripcord (Marlon wayans) or Scarlet. Still, the movie does have improvements over the first. Cobra Commander actually looks cool instead of really lame. The Rock (Roadblock) is also a more interesting main character than Duke.

For the ten year old that still lives in me, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a solid round of silly action-stuffed fun. Strictly for young boys and adult male geeks, the film is a major improvement over the 2009 film. For a movie based on toys, I can't really ask for much better. The dizzying mountainside action sequence is worth the recommendation alone.

Where the first has a frenetic energy that keeps its stupidity feeling like a kid smashing action figures together, this one's pacing feels glacial, which is strange, as the actual plot moves so fast it's tough to care about anything that's happening. But there are some strong camp elements lifting it up (again, the ninjas) & a handful of delightfully inventive action sequences. Still, it all feels incredibly hollow, & the music doesn't help with this. It's the worst score I've heard in a while.

Retaliation quickly tries to erase the mistakes of the first film, yet keeps the same beats the first one made. With a plot as far fetched as they come, to over the top acting once again, and a tone that conflicts itself too many times to count. Retaliation takes steps backwards, rather than moving forward. Further solidifying the idea that a new cast, especially one featuring the Rock and Bruce Willis, is not a guarantee for success. This soft reboot was better left at the drawing board.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is both surprisingly and unsurprisingly directed by the man responsible for Step Up 2 the Streets and Step Up 3D. It's surprising because for someone responsible for entirely visual films the action in Retaliation is dull and commonplace. It's unsurprising because there's no real attempt at story, character, acting, or anything else that actually makes movies good.

Plot is dumb Saturday Morning Stuff and that's why I like it. Unlike the first, and many other "superhero" films it doesn't shy away from its source material. I felt badly liking this. It's cornball cheese, but cheese that tries, and goddamnit there are moments of genuine chemistry hiding behind its Rock-y exterior. On the flip side, it takes effort for the editing to be this bad: look at the President-dance sequence for an example of flashy editing with no suspense; and the RZA flashback has as much logic as a Looney Toon. The writers of Mission Impossible 4 should also sue for plagiarism. It even copies its Dr. Strangelove love.

Why does Hollywood continue to insist upon half-assing movies? The story and Cobra's goals were non-sensical, the death of *REDACTED* was anti-climactic to the point of being almost entirely glossed over, you're supposed to believe that RZA is a ninja master, and Flint is an AGILITY EXPERT (I had no idea the military had a parkour division)?!?!? WTF? This should have been so much better than it was - if it wasn't for Snake-Eyes being such a bad-ass, my score would have been much, much lower.

There's a sort of wretchedness these Hasbro-related movies share. The writing fails spectacularly (but not amusingly) at whatever it's trying to accomplish (hit a tender spot, be funny, be memorable) while the actions scenes are usually entertaining (here the most notable being the sword fight in the mountains). What savior does one turn to when even The Rock can't save your franchise?

A fun follow-up that felt incomplete in the fact that characters from the previous movie where inexplicably left out or moved out of the spotlight to make room for other characters that we could care less about in the beginning of the movie (which also felt rushed). Better than the first one, but that's not saying much. This is pretty much equivalent to the cartoons, in that it bombards you with empty action and hollow characters, moving from one scene to the next with reckless abandon. As a HUGE fan of the cartoons growing up, it was cool to see many of the vehicles from the series. Also, they made Storm Shadow a bad-ass, which is what he deserves, as he was always my favorite as a kid. Yep, even more than Snake Eyes (GASP!) Ninja scenes were the best part
