I don't think they make comedies like this anymore. The laughs never stop for a minute... if you didn't like the last joke, just wait, there's another one right around the corner. It's so jam-packed with gags that watching it today I caught a couple I'd never noticed before, even after seeing the movie at least a dozen times (probably closer to 30). Comedy perfection.

I can't keep track of how many times I've seen Airplane! For my money, no other film makes such effective use of cinema as a medium for comedy, and it's pretty helpful that the dialogue and wordplay are just as immaculate as its visual humor. It's one of the absolute best films ever made, and I think that opinion would be more widespread if critics didn't thumb their noses at movies where old women snort cocaine and little girls take their coffee black — like their men.

The granddaddy of modern parody movies, and unlike the majority of ones in this century, "Airplane!" has aged considerably well, it lacks the heavy leaning into present day pop culture that would make it irrelevant after just a few years. Shirley, this one is funny.

This is the perfect example of a comedy it delivers joke after joke and has you laughing from beginning to end. Undisputed as the greatest comedy ever in my book.

There is no point in this film where the jokes let up, and it's so unbelievably quotable that lines sometimes will just pop into your head uncontrollably. A parody of disaster films, this movie is one of the craziest and funniest movies ever. The fecal matter hit the oscillating device in all the right ways for this one. Awesome!

Terribly silly and slapstick but it's just so good that you can't not laugh. There's hundreds of jokes machine-gunned out and they're almost all funny. It's just so downright absurd and that's its charm. This is slapstick humor at it's very, very best.

I'm pretty late to the party for this one. A very funny movie, to be sure. In some ways it's dated; in other ways its profound and lasting influence gives it a contemporary air and appeal even almost 30 years after its release. There aren't too many comedies that genuinely make me laugh when I'm watching them by myself, but this one actually did. Not just a few times either -- in many different scenes. The autopilot gags were particularly good.

If it were possible to laugh yourself to death, then Airplane! would quickly have become the most prolific serial killer of all time. It is exceptionally funny, with some of the quickest humour and wittiest writing ever conceived. The jokes come hard and fast, each one causing so much laughter you're likely to miss the following three. A truly timeless film, Aiplane! soars to dizzying heights of comedy.

Prop humor, dragged to death punchlines and one note performances make Airplane quite possibly the most sobering film about air travel in existence. There's a respectable willingness to be silly and surreal, but that is killed by the complete lack of energy and timing. Little of the humor is even relevant to aviation (the 10 minute parody of Saturday Night Fever) but seems tacked on Family Guy style, because they couldn't think of any more prop gags involving the inflatable pilot.

A comedy film in the truest sense of the term: Literally not a scene goes by without a joke or two or three, and I wish I could mention them all: The one-off ones are certainly hilarious (see Kramer talking to no one), as are the random background visual gags (see doing the laundry at the control tower), but it's the repeated ones that really take the cake (see Striker's unfortunate seatmates), especially the ones that don't even start out funny ("Looks like I picked the wrong week...").

First seeing this in 2020. Good god as a female this was SUPER uncomfortable to watch. There was one scene where there was a line of people queue'd up to slap a woman on board and another scene where an "automatic pilot" was groping a flight attendant. There was also a random shot of a random woman's boobs.... what? This is not funny.

The older I get, the more I dislike it. There's a little more craft than the movie movies, but it's still just a collection of wacky puns, groaners and sight gags. If it wasn't for Leslie Nielsen, it would be a total bust.

Wall-to-wall hilarious jokes--and not even any mean-spirited jokes. Endlessly quotable. Most people my age (born in the 70's) have never even seen any of the movies this parodies--and it doesn't matter, because it fulfills the prerequisites for a story with dramatic arc and all that on its own, something most parody films seem to have forgotten how to do nowadays.

Not bad, but definitely not in the top 10 funniest movies ever. About 3 genuinely laugh out loud moments in the film, and a few more moments that will just make you smile. Dated and probably a fluke considering what Zucker later went on to do.

Airplane! thoroughly deserves its reputation as one the finest comedies ever made, with an excellent and relentless mix of smart wordplay, satire, reference humour and old-school slapstick, ensuring one belly-aching laugh after the next. The two leads are good, but it's the supporting cast, notably Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Nielsen and Peter Graves, who really steal the show. With the jokes having endured remarkably over time, a testament to the strength of the writing, this is a true comedy gem.

Airplane!'s renown lies in its unwavering assault of joke-a-second puns and absurdities, bringing slapstick and screwball comedies of the era it parodies to their (il)logical conclusions. However, it's still the extremity of a frequently trite form of comedy. Airplane! never builds on itself like character-driven comedies and their possible other intricacies. It's an assault of stones that eventually you give into and accept the chuckles, but it's not humor that draws from the soul.

As a kid I loved this, I remember appreciating the jokes/minute rate. As an adult, it feels more rushed and discombobulated, but still, it is not that easy to pace spoof movies. It still has some gems, like Coffee is over panic, "happy" autopilot and it has Kareem! It was good flight movie material with a touch of nostalgia.
