This was unique for bringing two 90's Black sitcom stars together in one movie. Yet it rarely rises above that gimmick. Martin is still an energetic loudmouth (often to the detriment of his character) while Will Smith coasts by on natural charisma. But these buddy cops aren't different enough to make a captivating duo. And cinematically, Michael Bay does a disservice to the flick as unlike Tony Scott he can't make compelling drama or cohesive action. At best it's an average 90's action entry.

Recently rewatched, "Bad Boys" is a fairly lifeless action flick that showcases a lot of the things that people don't like about Bay. The mystery is surface deep, the comedy is flat, and the action is all glitz. It's possible that it's just dated, because I remember loving this in the 90's.

I wasn't expecting anything fantastic, but even the action sequences weren't consistently entertaining. Luckily the comedic parts outshine the action. Other than that, it's pretty clear that without Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, this wouldn't be worth watching.

I'll say it. I like this film. I've seen it a bunch of times. It's not anything spectacular, but it is perfect for what it is. It's a buddy cop movie, it's funny, it's got good action sequences, and all the cliches are right there, in your face, and no excuses are made.

I hesitate to call Bad Boys a good movie or even something that's worth seeing, but as an adrenaline-fueled experience filled with inventive cinematography, in-your-face editing, charismatic leads, enjoyable banter and a plot you've seen dozens of times before -- well, it certainly is just that. It's not original and the action scenes are nothing special, but the film isn't a boring watch and I can't say there was much I disliked about seeing it. Bad Boys just might be worth a viewing.

All this is a bad action flick. With a dumb plot, dialogue, and tone, this movie has no idea what it is doing. The only entertaining thing is the chemistry between Lawrence and Smith who were far above the level of this film. Otherwise this is just another film that reeks of Michael Bay.

The basic idea of having two main characters who are, well, buddies they act like friends to each other, they get in fights, they help each other out, they compliment each other This is one of the best examples, since Smith and Lawrence really do compliment each other so well They have pretty good on-screen chemistry, too you believe that these are good friends and partners. The action was well-done too, intense and exciting. The film, all in all, was pretty good, very entertaining.

Confession: I actually love the way Michael Bay shoots action. It's an expressionist ballet of slow-mo, low-angle shots and swirling camera movement. Storytelling and spatial geography are thrown out the window in lieu of evoking the *feeling* of action. I just hated everything else about this misogynist piece of fascist copaganda; a movie that not just trivializes but actively glorifies police brutality and human rights violations, with a sense of humour that only appeals to teenage boys.

"I'm from the middle-east. I kill before and I kill again." Bad Boys is loud, obnoxious and messy. Bay seems to be more focused on capturing the "hero poster-shot" after the action instead of the action itself. The dynamic between Smith and Lawrence, and the comedy therein is the major draw to the film, though Leoni delivers the best performance and enables most of the comedy. The film has a grunge feel but is otherwise mediocre and out-dated.

It's a fun action film. The movie accepts what it is and runs with it without trying to be anything more and definitely delivers on it's promise. Good action with some laughs thrown in for good measure. Not ground breaking by any means but still solid entertainment.

Bad Boys certainly isn't gonna win any awards and in general not considered a great movie, but there is a lot of fun to be had with this. The movie knows exactly what it is and the star of the show is the chemistry between Smith and Lawrence, only helping certify that light hearted, buddy cop feel that works so well for the movie. The plot is pretty bare bones, and none of the supporting characters matter all that much, but this is an entertaining watch and one of the best of Bay's work.

Interestingly enough given their career levels since this is actually somewhat more of a Martin Lawrence movie than a Will Smith one. Action wise it’s pretty generic but it’s somewhat saved by the swapped identities gimmick which gives it a playful comedy of errors nature. Overall pretty sleek and watchable but I’d rank it below Beverly Hills Cop, Rush Hour and the first two Lethal Weapons.

I was hesitant to give this movie such a high mark. But I'll say it......it was really fun. I know it's a Bruckheimer/Bay vehicle, but I just can't get past how cool it is. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have great on-screen chemistry as well. Just a damn fun movie.

I really liked this. It's a Michael Bay's Nothing To Lose, and I can't stop loving Martin Lawrence. He may not have been funny since the 90s, but when he was funny he was hilarious. Also Will Smith is for once not playing the obtrusively white-friendly black guy, and I can only approve. The action is Bay all over and therefore shit, but you know what, I laughed my ass off. One of the better action flicks to catch on a saturday after midnight when you've got half a bag of chips and a beer left.

Two honest black police officers (Martin Lawrence and Will Smith) do not act much like real cops. They try to recover drugs worth millions of dollars, and find a witness to a related murder, but she is spooked. Tea Leoni is great. The movie is full of holes and their deceptions are stretched to ridiculous lengths. If you can overlook the unbelievable plot, the script is amusing at times. Filmed well, good music and sound.

Bad Boys is one of the all time best comedy action movies. There are some truly iconic lines in this movie. I have seen this movie a dozen times and it never fails to entertain. This movie is the epitome of a Michael Bay/Jerry Brucheimer movie. If you are looking for stupid action with the most basic plot but a lot of fun the whole ride, Bad Boys is your movie. Tea Leoni is a stone cold fox with the comedic chops to boot. The supporting cast will surprise you 15 years later. A classic.

Viewed February 3, 2022. An unpleasant, overly stylized sitcom. I was astonished by how much of this was dedicated to some hijinks where Martin Lawrence has to pretend to be Will Smith, and how little focus is placed on developing some standard, enjoyable action movie beats. They're both entertaining comic actors, but the script is so awkward and unfunny that they can’t seem to make any sense of it — a couple of stray punchlines land amidst the chaos, but the scenarios are exceedingly dull.

Bad Boys is one of the few Michael Bay films that I can say I enjoy. Will Smith & Martin Lawrence are a great buddy cop pairing and their chemistry and humour carries and elevates the film. Without Will Smith though this film would of probably been forgotten. I remember enjoying this film a lot more when it was first released. Looking back though it's nothing more than a mediocre action film of the 90's. But by Michael Bay's standards this is certainly one of his better contributions.

The action is somewhat incoherent, but the cinematography is lush - although the blue/orange thing gets brought up a lot as a negative in filmmaking it looks fantastic. It's a shame the comedy hinges mostly on the Lawrence/Smith interplay, which there really isn't enough of, plus the identity-swap crutch never really gives us anything to enjoy. It's breezy, and skips along at a nice pace, but overall it's cookie-cutter cops and robbers stuff, with an ugly sheen of misogyny over all of it.

It's like Michael Bay told somebody that he wanted to make a cop movie, and then he got all sad because he had to admit that he knew absolutely nothing about police work. But then his buddy patted him on the shoulder and told him it was okay, because most people don't care. This has all the classic problems of pastiche, and the action isn't quite enough to overcome them.

It works as an action comedy but barely and that's about all I can say about it. I've never seen Leoni in a role where she doesn't stink up the place terribly and she continues that tradition here. Smith and Lawrence are thankfully more palatable but apart from the 'black' angle, there's little in their interactions that hasn't been done better in the many Buddy Cop efforts that proceeded this.

Bay's first is still one of his best. A highly enjoyable buddycop movie. Sure we can bicker about the stupid plot and other problems. But Smith and Lawrence have such great chemistry, it's easy to look past all that. Plus the action from a time Bay didn't rely on explosions every other second is also very enjoyable and well shot. I can't believe that in hindsight: Martin Lawrence actually had top billing over Will Smith in this.
