Will leave you feeling miserable and/or uncomfortable. Charlie Brooker, the genius behind the excellent Dead Set, delivers a cynical look at the ways media and technology bring out the worst in us or dominate our empty lives. Essential viewing if you're a misanthrope.

I would rather comment on each episode; but overall if you enjoy political sci-fi, this series is something you shouldn't miss. Each episode is a very high quality sci-fi short story with very well designed ethical dilemma and political commentary perfectly wrapped up in a package of high quality production and drama. Wehn criticism of technology comes from someone who obviously likes technology, it becomes more real. Just like Waldo...

The Twilight Zone of the modern era. Sure, in 30...hell, 10 years...we'll look back at the technology that is central to all these episodes and laugh at how wrong they were, but nobody today judges the Twilight Zone on the creators' inability to accurately predict when humanity would achieve time travel, we marvel at their uncanny ability to creep us the fuck out--something Black Mirror will most likely be doing for decades to come.

Fantastic first two seasons & Christmas special. Third and fourth still have an amazing episode or two each but also some clunky ones. Fifth season I think Brooker needs to transition fully into the Red Mirror aspect because it is getting tired. Best part about all of it is the couple of seconds after it ends, when you're suddenly confronted with your own slouched reflection in the tv screen, bonus points if your other half's face is lit up from his/her phone checking social media.

S6 - Black Mirror has descended into a hell where the lowest possible common denominator is elaborately served. It's now beyond parody or cringeworthy. It's actively insulting, insultingly immature, a insultingly uninteresting in its vision, insultingly boring, insultingly unfinished. Give a couple of 13 year olds the chance to write a script and this is literally what you get. There is very little on screen which makes me angrier than Black Mirror. 10 points for the first 2 seasons.

The National Anthem is one of my favorite works of tv. Beyond that though, and tbh I've only seen five other eps, there's nothing too interesting here. The problem is that the concept is too limiting, every episode is about how shitty technology is, and each episode is overly long. A classic Twilight Zone episode at 25 min is perfect for the exploration and subversion of some theme (which bonus: is not limited to just technology). At 60+ min though, each Black Mirror episode quickly becomes dull

Shockingly stupid and crude, as well as offensive on multiple levels. And I thought American television was bad. The first episode I sat through was so horrible I had no desire to watch any more; yet I stupidly did. Ugly glimpses of future Britain's multicultural idiocracy.

(S1-2) A very mixed experience. S01E02 is the only episode I would call fantastic, all the rest is trailing far behind that. However diverse every episode's subject matter is, the general mood of cynicism and hopelessness is strangely numbing. More than occasionally, characters are just too stupid or situations too nonsensical to give me any food for thought about the real world. Oh well, maybe this is just too pessimistic for my taste.

This series is amazing. I find myself enthralled by each and every episode. modern day twilight zone stuff right here. Even the series worst episodes are better than most television out there. I can not recommend this show enough. Everything is more or less plausible and that's what is the scariest thing about this show. most of these episodes are distinct possibilities for the future of the human race. If Star Trek alluded to cell phones back then, I fear what future tech this show inspires.

these episodes are so mind-bogglingly innovative and portray their high-concepts with the utmost level of realism. i really enjoyed watching the series, and was equally impressed and frightened by their level of absurdity. perhaps what's most terrifying of all is that the dystopian worlds this show depicts are not so far from where we are now.

The first season: it's goddamn near perfect. The foundation for each story is an interesting concept, stretched to its limit (and not beyond), and technically accomplished. What more could you want? The second season falls off a bit, but it still generally fantastic. Love this show and can't wait to be disappointed by the American remake.

Trite, preachy while presenting no new ideas, but by pushing existing concerns to unrealistic extremism. Insultingly unintelligent. Charlie Brooker may have developed a shite haircut as well as seeming to have become a sympathetic softy panel-show regular since he married that okay looking Asian lass off Blue Peter, but he proves with "Black Mirror" he can still produce biting and relevant dark social satire. (Re: S1) I try to stay aloof of this sort of thing so as to avoid disappointment, but I've finally watched this, and holy shit is ever awful. If you're on Reddit, it's like r/writingprompts where 90% of the thought involved was sunk into devising a clever premise, and then it's played out in the most unimaginative, banal, meaningless, obvious "well no fucking shit" way possible. Holy fuck this pissed me off. (Re: S1-5) It's better taken as a whole; the world-building is a sequential process.

Has been compared to The Twilight Zone, though this show has way more fucked up concepts for some of its episodes, though I also think each episode is wonderfully singular, presents its own unique vision of the future by focusing on a particular invention and theme, but what's great about Black Mirror is that it manages to avoid finger-waving and talking down to the audience -- we're able to get the message loud and clear through such brilliant story-telling. More episodes, please.

Pretty cool series with a couple of intelligent gimmicks and interesting twists and turns. I like how every episode stands on its own, keeping the plot, characters and pacing tight without having to rely on cliffhangers for each episode. The short running time also eliminates possibilities for background stories, which is surprisingly a good thing; it keeps things mysterious throughout.

The first two seasons were great and offered some interesting commentary on the nature of technological advancement and how it affects society or us. As the series progresses, the commentary and wit are dulled and it becomes another show where the technology only serves to shock viewers with its obvious misuses than to serve as the backdrop for an exploration into a very human psyche. Every now and then you get something good, but so far, it feels like the good is starting the outweigh the meh

Ranking the entire TV series is hard. Some individual episodes would be 10-15 points higher, and some would be 30-40 points lower. I am throwing this more on the high end as most of the episodes were great, or, at least, interesting. Completely surpassed now by Love, Death, and Robots, which is more fun and less pretentious, while following roughly the same theme.

Overrated. S1-2 touch upon interesting subjects but I'm not that fond of the way they're handled: the plot points are sometimes predictable and the moral messages, anvilicious (SMARTPHONES ARE EVIL!) or dubious. Moreover the series could be perceived as hypocritical since it's produced by Endemol. Besides it's hardly believable that all episodes could happen in the same world. Starting with S3, it gets shallower, ending with random basic plots peppered with a few half-baked SF elements.

S4 exhibited signs that its platform transition hurt the writing. The brutality, at times, felt like originality. In S5 the thinking is, 'we no longer need cruelty, we have ideas.' While S5 employs the Black Mirror aesthetic of a daring, fresh, second-coming of The Twilight Zone, its content lacks originality and complexity. Beyond that, the old ideas used aren't some of the better ones. It feels like there were too many creators creating, or the creator got bored or was rushed.

I would suggest all these to have individual profiles, even Columbo has individual profiles, so these that are 1h films with its own topic and characters specially. Now talking about the series, sci-fi really deserved this. It was almost sleeping and now with Black Mirror sci-fi has woke up in the best way possible. Critic, acid, strong, more interested in the world and background and less in SFX, pure food for thought. If you miss the good old sci-fi, you are looking for Black Mirror.

The first two episodes of the first season are okay. Sort of gimmicky and rather depressing. However, the third and final episode, 'The Entire History of You', is a knockout! While cameras recording human experiences in POV and memory implants aren't exactly novel concepts ('La mort en direct', 'The Final Cut'), they're nevertheless fascinating ones, and though the episode deals with some of the same ideas as Bigelow's 'Strange Days', Brooker creates his own, terrifyingly believable world.
