This is not a stupid movie. Saying it's stupid is like saying This Is Spinal Tap is stupid because the band Spinal Tap is stupid. It should go without saying that Zoolander is nowhere near as funny (or as smart) as This Is Spinal Tap, but it sure as hell isn't stupid the way an Adam Sandler movie or a bad Jim Carrey movie is stupid. However, the film rarely goes beyond being "amusing," and some jokes fall flat.

Ben Stiller, for me, isn't an actor that sells a film. He's been in far too many movies that are just terribly mediocre. However he has been in a select few impressive films. While Zoolander isn't the highpoint of his career it is undeniably funny. Granted it's stupid humour but what the hell it's laugh out loud funny regardless.

The absurdity manages to stay funny, the plot's predictable, but it doesn't matter. Male models and 2001 references can't be too bad.

Perhaps the greatest clue into the crazed comic mindset of Ben Stiller, this also might be the most consistently funny, memorable, and incisive film he has done. Very seldomly half-hearted, and when it's on, it has created some of the biggest laughs of my time. Key scene: Zoolander and the roomies head out to get smoothies.

Stiller's pucker-faced lead is annoying more often than funny, but he has his moments ("Mer-man!") and fortunately, the model-world satire he's a part of is laugh-out-loud outrageous (see the underground walk-off; wacky final runway show), his counterpart Wilson's smooth but equally dim-witted model is a riot (see his awards intro video), and well, people being dumb is just pretty funny most of the time (case in point: the ridiculous gasoline fight; 2001 ape spoof: "They're IN the computer!")

An apocalyptically thick-headed male model (Ben Stiller) is made the unwitting pawn of an evil fashion syndicate--who want him to assassinate the progessive PM of Malaysia. Stiller, one of the more unexpected auteurs out there, doesn't exactly make a funny film here (though there are some funny moments, especially thanks to Will Ferrell's Mugatu), but he certainly doesn't go for the cheap--or expected--laughs either, and the film has its own odd, likable vibe. Excuse while I go Blue Steel.

This film has a blurred line between funny and simply bizarre. I'm kind of indifferent towards it but failing when trying to remove one's underwear while still wearing trousers does make one cringingly laugh a bit in the I felt that sense.

Still enjoyable all these years after its initial release, Zoolander is probably still the best thing Ben Stiller has ever done. It helps that he gets great performances from Wilson and Ferrell. The film consistently hits the right tone of over-the-top silliness to keep one from thinking too carefully about the ludicrous plot. And of course, there's that fantastic gas station scene: Orange Mocha Frappuccino!

One of the best of the dumb movies that Ben Stiller starred in earlier on in his career. I'm not sure if that's saying much, but if you accept Zoolander for what it is - a walking SNL sketch about male models - then it has some pretty funny moments. It's nowhere near the top echelon of comedy, of course, but I understand why so many people can quote from this movie.

This movie is just terrible. TV quality production, with basically zero cinematic value. It's a shame, could have been good if it was more intelligent and more artistically done. The Director should have taken the film more seriously. The acting by Ben Stiller was also stupidly overdone. He literally did the very thing he mocks through the character of Tugg Speedman in Tropic Thunder, which is a much better movie. Never go full retard. Owen Wilson was great, made Stiller look shit by comparison.

Hadn't seen this one in maybe fifteen years. It's very hit-or-miss, and expectedly dated in its style and celebrity cameos. The stuff that really stuck with me is pretty much everything that works, and I understand why I forgot the bits that I did. But enough of it does work that it's worth giving another look.

Zoolander is one of those rare comedy movies from the early 2000s that holds up. There are some dated jokes but for the most part this movie holds up nearly twenty years later. There are some great cameo appearances that are somewhat under-utilized but they don't take anything away from the movie. Jerry Stiller does a fantastic job in this movie. He upstages his own son at points. This is one of Farrell's iconic performances. The scene with the reading center is still uproarious.

Zoolander is quite possibly the most deliberately stupid comedy ever made. It's a somewhat exhausting watch but to be fare Zoolander does have many laugh out loud moments and it's still incredibly quotable. Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson & Will Ferrell all deliver mindless levels of comedy. And they are supported by a swamp of celebrity cameos. The silliness is certainly enduring to revisit. And I no longer get the same amount of enjoyment from Zoolander as I once did. But it still has it's moments.

You have to be really smart to make a film this stupid. Bret Easton Ellis wishes he came up with this. Aside from the jokes, the movie is shot and directed really well - its sterile, flashy and artificial, it feels at points like an extended advertisement, and it fits really well with the theme and setting. A great cast - especially David Duchovny. he doesn't look or act crazy but he's just as funny, it's the little grounded moments that help the most.

There's a certain spikiness to 'Zoolander,' a palpable desperation to make the viewer laugh, but an excellent hit rate with the jokes and a genuine fondness for its characters carries the film to success. Skims low above the dark surface of its inane subject matter, threatening to fall in, but it never does.

They get Orange Mocha Frappes, a joke in of itself for Citric Acid + Milk = Gross, the line in Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go "Turn a bright spark into a flame" 30 seconds before the inciting incident, and the setup of Derek having friends being wiped out before our very eyes within the first act. It's a stroke of genius

I didn't expect a silly comedy about a vacuous model to touch on issues like homelessness, child labor, familial estrangement or body image issues in the almost-semi-serious way it did. I did expect something a bit funnier, though. It got fewer laughs out of me than quizzical looks. I still enjoyed this film, but Stiller did a much better job with The Cable Guy.
