Definitely not my cup of tea - I'm too much of a straight male, I suppose - but not intolerable if your other half insists on it. Anna Kendrick is appealing as always, and Rebel Wilson does her damndest to convince us she's the next Melissa McCarthy, but we've seen this story done a million times before, and a lot of the humor feels forced and awkward. Also, "I don't like movies" apparently counts as character development.

This is probably the girliest shit I'll ever profess to liking. It's cheesy, generic, predictable and stupid. I mean. Just look at the tagline: "Get pitch slapped". Really? But the a cappella. Goddammit, the a cappella!

How far can Anna Kendrick carry a film filled with stupid jokes and stereotypes and a mixed bag of music? It seems the answer is, pretty far. It's still a very messy film with hardly any hint of originality, but it manages to be enjoyable enough.

It's basically Glee in college with Anna Kendrick - and that turns out to be pretty ok! I give credit to a few pretty enjoyable musical sequences and screenwriter Kay Cannon (of 30 Rock fame), who brings a lot of high-energy madcap cartoonishness to an ultra-generic underdog story framework.

I'm a little late to the party. That being said I can see why so many people liked it. I do think girls will like it more than guys, but I still had fun with it. The acting is pretty good and so is pretty much all of the music. It's a fairly simple story that's predictable but the characters and music keep it rolling. Some funny moments here and there as well.

Pitch Perfect is the most off-color movie that it could be while staying in the constraints of a PG-13 rating. I think that many of the children hoping this is the next Glee or High School Musical will miss most of the jokes, which are clearly intended for older audiences. This is a hateful movie toward pretty much everyone, and that attitude is what endeared it to me. It was hilarious, and the musical aspect, while certainly prominent, fell secondary to the comedy.

Formulaic in the extreme, but so sprightly and unpretentious that I got swept up in it, anyway. Kendrick's appealingly unaffected, naturalistic performance helps a lot. Lots of good stuff here, really--the musical numbers are staged with maximum energy, Rebel Wilson's a blast, there's not much in the way of annoying manufactured conflict. It's pretty fun, overall.

As Kendricks character I too thought this a capella was kind of silly, but as the movie went by I also tuned in with my bass on Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA". I mean, who wouldn't? Well, not the twin that was eaten in the womb... The best thing since the "spirit-fingers" in 2000!

Pitch Perfect had some funny parts to it but it was very much made for a certain kind of audience that doesn't include me. In many ways this is the movie form of Glee, the movie even takes a jab at that show. The story was passable and the comedy was funny with just enough raunch. It was the raunchiness of the movie that made me wish they would have gone a bit farther but I think that is why it is made for a certain audience that isn't me. I probably won't watch it again. I might watch part two.

It's a comedy, I laughed a bit, it's different, whatever. But listen. A cappella stinks. Doubly so on film. When I see people lip syncing in close-up I get incredibly embarrassed for the actor. This was one of those movies - and it happens too often with movies about music - where I had to watch the faces of the actors to figure out whether or not the performance was supposed to be good or not, because it all sounds more or less the same.

The whole is corny and very predictable ("here we have the good-looking love interest" etc.) , but there are several good jokes, enough to keep the interest. I liked the "a ca ..."-jokes, like "listen up, a ca-people", and of course the "a ca-scuse me?" - "a ca-believe it!" back and forth. I think Rebel Wilson tries too hard sometimes, but she is funny. Corny and funny, just the way I like it!

Neither of the two PP movies are much better than the other to me, to be honest. But in saying that, they're both pretty darn entertaining. I watched these in reverse order which is never a great idea, but I'll be honest, Anna Kendrick sells *anything* for me. I'd watch her make breakfast. In my kitchen. In my t-shirt. I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, Pitch Perfect 1. It's good, it's funny, the whole cast are good for their roles (even when not much is asked). See it if you wanna!

I really enjoyed the a cappella performances in this movie. Didn't like a few of the songs, but man when the Treblemakers started singing "Magic" it was... beautiful. Rebel Wilson is comedy gold, and politically incorrect banters between the two commentators doesn't fail to entertain. The story is somewhat generic though, and the conflict and its resolution was one of the weaker points in the movie. Also, Skylar Astin's character felt like a bland, generic nice guy.

How can you improve Bring It On? You can't... But if you tried you should definitely remove Kirsten Dunst and let Dushku be the lead. If she is too old, let an almost as beautiful Oscar nominated actress play her part. You could also change cheerleading into something equally stupid as let's say acapella.

Alright, so maybe it was just a mish mash of EVERY teen comedy you've ever seen...but the acapella was pretty entertaining, and I'm a sucker for anything Anna Kendrick bar Twilight - plus, they did really well making the 'nerd' 'uber nerdy' so that you'd believe he would ridiculed by the all male douchebag acapella group. First off, Anna Kendrick was someone I used to refer to as "Bella's friend on Twilight" but needless to say, this film skyrocketed her into stardom, for a good reason. This film isn't the usual musical where you just belt out in the middle of the road but rather this is a perfect combination of music, comedy, and drama. I mean DRAMA. Not the one with tears or something.

The plot is a perfect parallel of any other competition-based storyline, so it's pretty predictable, right down to its requisite romance, but that doesn't mean this isn't still a fun flick: Wilson's Fat Amy is odd and hilarious and leads a great group of secondary characters (DeVine's douche is another highlight) surrounding Kendrick's music-mashing Beca, and the numerous a cappella numbers are excellent (keep an eye out for Kendrick's impressive cup stacking solo song).

Just a severely mediocre combination of Bring It On & Glee. It's absolutely full of clichés & stereotypes. The sheer amount of fat jokes from Wilson's character was astounding. We get it. She's fat. It's not funny. Even Kendrick was wooden and boring. Her character was utterly unlikable and without depth, like every other character. I didn't think any of the performances were anything special. Underdog formula with all the “boring” filler stripped out is not a bad idea, but the characters are too thin and flat to sustain the film between its nicely staged (but excessively played) musical numbers; it may well have been a better idea to stage a literal concert film and be done with it. Wears out its welcome with a full act to go, and while it’s flattering to think a capella try-outs would require televised (?) commentary, Banks and Higgins are a bizarre bit of surplus baggage here.

I expected a vapid shit hole, what I got was an entirely mediocre by-the-numbers film that only exceeded the films I would consider its peer by being much funnier than it had any right to be. Plenty of jokes fell flat, but overall the jokes landed more often than not due to Rebel Wilson who was the star. Some big negatives included plot payoffs that were so underwhelmingly set up it was hard to care and a fair amount of the singing was either not good or obviously autotuned.

Actually an incredibly solid chick flick outing. In the vein of Mean Girls, the random and sporadic comedy works well in the musical a Capella setting. The humor hits hard when it hits, yet the story is pretty cliched throughout. Nothing special in terms of plot or direction, but the charming performances are also a pretty big boost for this. A good movie thanks to its humor and performance.

Along the way there is a lot of singing, and it is all wonderful and excellent. Even when the Bellas perform songs that bore the apparently jaded audiences and commentators at the competitions, the songs are fantastic. There is a beautiful joy projected in just about every song, by every group that performs. There are impossible-to-believe spontaneous numbers and more-impossible-to-believe a capella battles, but the ridiculousness of the setups is excused by the undeniably fun music.

This film certainly wasn't groundbreaking- consider it 7 years late on the whole Stomp the Yard, Drumline, etc scene- but it certainly was a lot of fun. While the musical numbers were enjoyable (but thankfully brief), the rest of the film was so lightweight it barely existed. Scrub the romance, scrub the comedy, they were like sprinkles on a cake. What's more, I just find it nauseating to watch such a homogeneous ensemble of photogenic performers with their Glee-ful singing voices. I really wish they would have played up the music production angle or the Anna K is alternative angle. But what do you expect from a barrel-scraper like Jason Moore.

Well, Anna Kendrick holds this movie. She isn't outright gorgeous or a superb actress, but she has the girl-next-door attitude and has a desire to depict the role. Pitch Perfect was a film I had absolutely no intent on watching, but I had no choice on the matter due to the other half. But in its own annoying way, it's surprisingly tolerable. Anna Kendrick is boring and awkwardly wooden. She seems pissed off and disinterested in every role she plays. Rebel Wilson is the films saving grace though and she gets the best lines.
