The lessons I took away from this: having kids will cause a huge shift in your personality and forces you to abandon any life goals you had previously. Having kids is also more important than a steady income or career prospects. Without kids, you're Evil. With kids, you're Good. Time to go build a death ray, I guess...

Very cute, with an excellent score. Works well for little kids, so it functions as a decent family movie (unless the parents are squeamish with toilet humor, which is frequent). Still, the plot is just the right amount of cheesy to work without being sickening, and the character designs are rather inspired.

Sweet, hilarious, and downright well-done. Great voice actors on everyone character's part and great, well-timed comedic writing! Some jokes strictly for the kids, others strictly for the adults. Despicable Me is something anyone in the mood to laugh can enjoy. Oh, and it's just plain touching x)

This, the latest computer cartoon, has a vital role to play, that of hastening the day when the 3-D scam will have been exposed for what it is and the public will no longer deem the difference from 2-D as worth an added four dollars for the glasses. The scales will have fallen from their eyes, or more literally the shades will have fallen, and along with them the darkening and dulling of the color.

Enjoyable enough animated movie, that the parents can tolerate while the kids enjoy it. The story is incredibly cheesy for as good as the premise is, but for the most part you will think it's cute instead of obnoxious.

First off Ken Jeong is in it which already is a strike against it. Besides that I just didn't find the movie funny. The story is poorly constructed, and i think that is what bothered me most. If this could have meshed together a little better maybe I would have been able to enjoy it more, and then maybe I would have lauged at those mini-twinkee things more. It seemed like the rest of the theatre though was laughing so I am probably in the minority on this (although I am also not 6yrs old)

Mistakes - 1) When the girls put a mud island on Hattie's desk, the leaves on it keep changing from wilted to perfect between shots. 2) Vector burns a hole to steal the shrink ray on top of Gru's plane-thing. It dissapears later.

Decent little family fair that plays it safe and has become the face of Illumination Entertainment with its clean animation and, of course, the minions. The voice acting is all good and the movie keeps the message simple and straightforward. All in all, it's short, sweet, humorous, and overall done well. I don't think I really have anything ti complain about.

Highly dissappointed by this movie. It didn't have a lot of charm. Also the story wasn't that original, and it seemed it had to be as cute as possible. I giggled 3 times, but not more than that. Steve Carell makes a funny voice for an hour and a half and you get a pretty forced plot with shallow and generic characters. However that thankfully doesn't stop it from being entertaining as there are enough humourous moments that allow you to forget about the flaws, until you stop laughing that is.

After bringing three orphans into his life, a super-villain has a change of heart because... they're very adorable? Meanwhile, he faces off against the least intimidating villain imaginable in an attempt to steal the moon. So many gags are thrown at us from the start that most would overlook how shallow and unremarkable the main plot really is, not to mention that most of the gags rely on ADD-fueled madness much too akin to a video game (Rayman's Raving Rabbits). At least kids will love it...

Charmless, soulless garbage. From the sub-par CGI to the enforced slapstick 'hilarity' of the designed-by-committee Minions this is poor on every level. I know it's supposed to be for kids and that's somehow meant to excuse it for being awful. The "kids will lap up any old shit as long as we push the merchandise hard enough" argument isn't something I subscribe to; not in a world where Pixar (and to a lesser extent Disney) are consistently making better kids' films than this.

This was such a lazy movie. It has a cute story but it is so underachieved, there was so much more to work with, especially in the middle part. The friendship between Gru and the three girls seems to develop out of the blue, overnight even. It bothers me a bit because Despicable Me could've been a worthy adversary to the Pixar domination of animated feature lengths but it seems like the spark just isn't there. Plus, the jokes and fun is contrived, with the funniest stuff coming from the minions.

Many of the jokes fall flat, but it takes so many swings that there are enough funny gags to keep things entertaining for a couple of hours. I came into this film with absolutely zero expectations, so I was surprised to find this a very enjoyable film. However, it was not without its flaws in my opinion. I have heard many people say Despicable Me is "heart warming", which I agree that the story and idea was, but I thought Steve Carell's performance, although very good, lacked any feeling. Which is my biggest complaint about Despicable Me. So in the end it was an enjoyable movie, but it could have been better.

By far, the best thing here -- better than the self-conscious tone, actually -- is that there is a very unlikable guy in the leading role, and we already know that he's gonna be little by little softened by these thre orphans, but it's still rewarding (and funny) to care about his metamorphosis.

Steve Carell is the voice of Gru, a suburban supervillain whose seemingly innocuous wood-frame semi sits above a vast underground lair populated by hordes of spiky, yellow and predictably braindead minions. As befits a family-friendly baddie, Gru's acts of evil extend to freeze-raying passers-by and attempting to steal the moon rather than actual abduction or murder. Which means that when he adopts three adorable tow-headed orphan girls - it's not long before begin to melt his cold, cold h

Then the joys of family win the day. And the reformed "bad guy" finds his greatest accomplishment in uniquely voicing love for his newly adopted clan. And I found myself nodding my head and wiping away a secretive tear right along with all the other kids and parents in my row at the theater. So does Despicable Me, with its comedic boo-and-hiss minion action, Steve Carell-voiced not-so-bad-guy and pint-sized adorable heroines, add more momentum to the smile-worthy animation trend?

It's like Up, but with a goofier/less interesting main character and supporting characters that aren't as charming or intriguing. So it's not really like up at all, or nearly as good. There are some good gag laughs though, and it does properly capture the experience of caring for children that aren't your own (i.e. a pain in the ass). Pleasant, undemanding piece of animation is an enjoyable diversion; if the underlying plot and storyline are too familiar and not quite developed well enough to sustain a feature length subject, there are still some terrific set pieces, with the break-in to the arch villain's lair, and a genuinely nail biting climax the highlights. Still nothing particularly great here, and the much ballyhooed Minions are an occasionally overdone distraction, but still passable fun.

I love Steve Carrell in pretty much anything, and he does a fantastic job with his villain-with-a-heart-of-gold character here. I'm not a fan of the minions, and this movie gets credit for being the only one in the franchise to not focus solely on their gibbery antics. Gru's development as a father figure to the girls is touching, even if it is a little formulaic. I'd say this is fine; just avoid the sequels.

You can’t go wrong with a story about three adorable orphans finding a home and teaching a big ol’ Gru-ch how to love and be loved (I was a teary mess during that final bedtime story and kisses for everyone, hundreds of minions included), and the other plotline of Gru trying to be the best villain does well to provide a simple contrasting narrative to this emotional main arc (the flashbacks with his mom are more distracting though). Great voicework and lots of (butt)cheeky humour throughout.
