Where The Cell and The Fall both had varying degrees of depth, visual creativity, filmic flair, challenging themes and interesting stories, Immortals has none of the above. It is a real treat for the eyes, but there's no life or spark behind the visuals, and no real artistry. The plot is hollow, messy and unengaging, the 3D is unnecessary and the religious undertones don't make any sense. I wasn't bored, and I've seen far worse, but it's horribly lackluster, and that's coming from a Tarsem fan.

I went in with some epically low expectations, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed myself. It's by no means a great or even a good movie, but it is pretty entertaining. It looks amazing and had some great action scenes. Rourke is very cool as King Hyperion, Cavill is fine as Theseus, everyone else plays there parts pretty well. It's too bad the story isn't very good. There are no stakes because the God's save them whenever there is trouble and Theseus was a bit too powerful of a fighter.

Even though I'm a sucker for Zack Snyder'esque fast-slow-fast aesthetics, Immortals is another gang rape of a mythology that deserves better. No wonder so many americans doesn't know shit, when Hollywood teaches them all the wrong things! This spectale is a farce of weird looking helmets and hats and the only thing good to say about this is Rourke who once again takes the money and run!

The visuals, action sequences, and costume designs are fairly impressive. On the character/plot/dialog side though, it's a bit lackluster. Plus, any entertainment comes partially because all the bad moments are pretty laughable. The next time Tarsem Singh wants to make an action movie, he should leave out the drama and religious overtones, and just make a 2 hour long visually-spectacular action set piece.

Tarsem handles the style perfectly. The intensity of the gods really made this one worth while for me. I had a problem with parts of the story, but overall - a nice visual treat with great action sequences. Tarsem works this style much better than Snyder with 300. Also, Poseidon is a G.

If '300' and 'Clash of the Titans' were on par (debatable) then this would be slightly below. Props to Tarsem for effort, though. He tries hard (bordering on too hard) to make every shot visually interesting and he's a talented stylist. His cast performs blandly, except Rourke - who can't be bothered to act much at all.

The ending, which singlehandedly moves the goalposts forward for the concept of the deus ex machina, is so goofy it sinks the movie's entire score. That said, there's plenty of cool moments leading up to it, and Mickey Rourke is awesome, a million times more entertaining than he was as the villain in Iron Man 2.

Tarsem will always hold a place in my heart for "The Fall," and his visuals here are as gorgeous as ever, but the story is lacking. It's overly long. It's greatest feat is making the trident awesome. I've always thought of it as a somewhat useless weapon (you throw it once and then it's gone?) but here it is the coolest weapon of all.

Long ago (or "in Jewish Times" as a colleague of mine once referred to the period), human eyes were far less developed than they are today, rendering them only able to see what the early Canaanites referred to as the "Zach Snyder Spectrum" which consists solely of "silken breast swaddling" taupe, "sweaty pecs" gold, "sun-baked ass" bronze, and OMG MAMA'S HEAD HAS BEEN SEVERED crimson. After having witnessed the slaying several immortals, unsure if filmmakers understand meaning of "immortal"

Usually the only thing a Singh movie has going for it is the looks, but this is his ugliest movie by far, and the script is god awful to match. If you enjoy a bunch of characters with no motivation running around aimlessly for a couple of hours, you're going to love this.

The characters leave something to be desired, but it captures the insane, violent, breathtaking spirit of the Greek myths better than any film I'm aware of. The entire Stephen McHattie subplot was a disaster, but Luke Evans' conflicted asshole is probably my favorite film version of Zeus.

Hyperion is trying to release the Titans by finding a mythical bow, and the Hellenic Gods train Theseus to combat him. It's Clash of the Titans with a simpler (bordering on banal) story but way better effects/action. The cast is large and impressive, but their talents are largely shunted to the background in favor of visual bombast. That visual bombast is a real treat though, with plenty of excellent battle carnage and sweeping vistas. A better movie than the much lauded 300.

Actually it was pity Tarsem's visuals did not work. The story stank, the character directing did not work and the whole concept collapsed pretty soon you get into it. I liked the sets and there was some highlights here and there, but the general output put down the feeling too much to get any good movie entertainment.

I would watch 'Immortals' again for auteur Tarsem Singh's bold visuals and magnificent production design. I wouldn't watch 'Immortals' again for its lacking, lame, dull-as-a-doorknob hero caught in the middle of an anciently generic 'Conan the Barbarian' story that dips its toe in Roman mythology for a few minutes worth of material before calling it a day.

Tarsem Singh is like one of those sidewalk artists who can paint you an aesthetically pleasing portrait or landscape in 20 minutes that's technically sound but devoid of any substance or real talent. There's scene after cgi scene of fancy costumes being paraded about and probably a full hour of slow-mo action scenes but everything is completely lacking in a soul or real interest shown by the film maker. The acting and script is a horrendous afterthought. Rourke phones it in all the way.

Unsatisfying mix between Clash of the Titans, 300, and a french fashion show. Singh's style seems a natural combo with this type of story, but there simply weren't enough moments where he could go all-out with memorable stuff. The climactic battle was pretty damn awesome, but it's not enough to carry the rather lame story. And what's up with Rourke's villain helmet? He looks like a bunny with that thing on. And only Monty Python knights fear bunnies. Silly Rourke.

I'm sick of grotesqueness forgotten after two minutes. I'm sick of great actors starring in these who don't give a shit because the writing sucks. Argh. Nowhere near as horrible as I thought. Tarsem Singh's distinct visual style that draws from art- and theater-history, occasionally makes the movie gorgeous to look at, and the R-rated approach to mythology initially feels refreshingly in tune with the brutality of ancient fairy tales. But on the flip side the poorly written dialog (the low-point being the obligatory battle rally speech) and horrible third act takes its tole in the long run.

Enjoyable "modern" sword and sandals epic is far from the best of the post-GLADIATOR entries, but remains a colourful and endearing diversion (especially in 3-D); the star here are the attractive, blatantly CGI-d scenery and action sequences; with Rourke having a hammy good time in the shadows, you really need little else, though Cavill proves a solid and endearing hero. Good fun, if not especially memorable.

Even though Singh restrains the visuals, I thought they're still really nice. Great costumes, visuals, etc. The script is by the books: not especially good, not bad, but the actors do a good job, and the fight scenes were great. I mean maybe it's because I think the visuals are more inspired than other movies of this type, and it doesn't masturbate over slow-mo as much as something like 300 does, and the violence is cool and brutal. It allows me to ignore flaws more than some others apparently.

I have always been a fan of Greek Mythology. This movie takes what I love and adds a bunch of gruesome violence and epic battles to the mix for a very fun and stylistic movie. I thought the idea of the bow was a very cool relic to go after and the threat of the Titans being released added some tension to the movie. Mickey Rourke was a great bad guy and Henry Cavill is a good guy to be reckoned with. Everything looked so beautiful in this movie, even the gory parts seemed like art. Very fun!

"Immortals" is very much the usual Tarsem affair, the sets and costumes are visually striking...and everything else is terrible. There are plenty of laughable moments, the CGI and 3D are poor, both the acting and characters are awful (besides Mickey Rourke), the action scenes are ripped straight out of "300" and Tarsem clearly has no idea about Greek mythology whatsoever. Going in with few expectations, I was pleasantly content with what I received - a stimulating, visually extravagant imagining of the Theseus myth. Obviously it doesn't give much care to the actual accepted myth of Theseus being the son of Gods (or Hyperion for that matter, being one of the twelve Titans). These things are only hinted at in an off-hand manner at best (Theseus not having a father). But. The story is good enough, there's excellent action and again, beautiful visuals. Worth a look!

All of this filmmaker’s usual attention to creating images with a particular kind of, let’s say, baroque aesthetic (he might say Renaissance; one might also say kitsch), but in the service of yet another failed attempt by Hollywood to make something out of Greek mythology, in this case by creating an extremely well-worn narrative about a hero who leads an oppressed people to salvation. This director does make an effort to do things differently, but this is his least successful attempt.

Who are these people? Where are the places they keep naming? Where is this wall and why is it important? Why should I care about any of the people on screen? No answers to be found to any of these questions. For a stylised sword and sandal epic of far superior quality, watch Spartacus (the TV series).
