A decidedly PG-13 film that somehow melds the best things about Jaws with the worst things about Jurassic Park.

Sharply written and very efficiently executed story of a tiny redneck community coming together to deal with a stupid monster threat. Obviously it's not aiming very high but is a refreshingly solid package with fun characters, creative low budget effects, great pace, consistent tone and a plot that actually has enough internal logic to engage you. Also it has some good old fashioned heart without overdoing the sentimentality. Just wants to distract you for 90 mins & does it pretty damn well.

A rather entertaining cheapy that benefits from the likeable cast committing fully, and looking like they're having a good time. It's scary without being unpleasant, funny without being too silly, and the characters are likeable enough to make us want to see them survive. Pretty well made, and good fun.

The story is brilliant in its simplicity, and the film mines all the campy fun out of the concept that it can. Once it gets going there's one clever action sequence after another. Fred Ward's line readings are hilarious. Also, Reba is in this movie, what the hell is all that about.

Really, really good fun. Imaginative, well paced, good monsters and a good mix of stock supporting characters played by actors who know exactly what sort of movie they're in. Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon help raise the movie above its modest parts with great performances. No pretensions of being something greater which of course makes it greater.

This is the greatest B-movie. The script is watertight, the characters are a fun bunch of fleshed-out cliches, the direction is tight, and the monster is of the "scariest when not seen" variety. It's B-movie schlock but with a surprising good screenplay and cast that makes it infinitely rewatchable. It was a personal childhood fav of mine that taught me how to pole-vault.

It is no coincidence that "Tremors"(1990) is located in Perfection, NV. Practicality a perfect film, next to "Gremlins"(1984), this is the movie that made me fall in love with monster movies/creature features. However now, after seeing countless terrible films of its ilk since then, little did I know just how near perfect this film really was. Nearly every aspect of this low-budget gem is rock solid, from the monster effects, the ensemble of characters, the direction, to the airtight script.

A very fun throwback to schlocky monster movies but avoids being schlocky where it matters. The characters are 1-dimensional but likable underdogs & the monster concept is a great one. It's basically sharks on land & some of the best parts capture the childhood memories of pretending your bed is an island you can't fall off of. Even better, the tension is held throughout w/ the monsters getting smarter. Its done so well that when Bacon raises his foot to avoid a tentacle I laughed with glee.

The floor is lava. I need more redneck creature comedies. The lines aren't clever but they're funny, mostly because they're played straight. The film does stall for a bit when they all get on the rock, but it answers all of my questions about what you could try in that scenario. Too bad Egg Shen got killed off early. Michael Gross looked like Burt Reynolds. Fav scene: Gross and McEntire having the time of their lives justifying stockpiling all those guns in their bunker.

Tremors takes a B-movie plot, and actually makes it WORK on so many levels. There is genuine suspense and drama, well-written dialogue, it's thoroughly funny, Bacon and Ward are priceless and even the supporting cast is fantastic!

Campy as hell but that's certainly entertaining. Follows an incredibly basic story that's pretty common in horror flicks but still manages to make the ride enjoyable. Having Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward in this certainly take it up a notch and it has some genuinely hilarious moments in it. Plus we've got Reba McEntire as a gun-totin' hunting chick. That's awesome and hilarious regardless of what side of the political fence you're on.

This isn't completely cheesy like it totally could have been. Well, the writing is a bit but it's still cool to look at the movie isn't completely unwatchable. Tremors is one clever creature feature. Bacon picks out so many b-movies it's ridiculous, but the movie is and I still like him anyways.

Jesus, what an incredibly fun movie this was. Much like another 90's creature film - Jurassic Park - it is a source of never-ending amusement, like being taken for a wild ride you don't want to come down from; Coincidentally, both films star Ariana Richards. That girl must've had the best agent ever.

Decent fun in the form of a "final stand" movie. Kind of like "The Birds," but with underground worm beasts instead of birds, a desert instead of a bay, and a redneck character with no comparable equivalent. Actually it's quite a different film.

Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon make the difference between this and most "giant-animals-killing-people" movies. One-liners and rednecks who are fed up with this shit can turn a lot of cliches into something enjoyable. On the cliche note, the monster cam was unnecessary, but the slight shifts in the ground showing the graboids' movement was surprisingly effective.

Tremors is a fun and silly throwback to '50s monster movies. It gives us a small town filled with colorful characters, a light tone, some wonderfully created monsters, and a reason to constantly invent new ways to kill the creatures. It's kind of dumb, sure, and it's not what most people will say is a great movie, but there are two kinds of schlocky movies, and Tremors is definitely the good kind. It's not boring, and it's more likely than not going to be something you'll enjoy watching.

This is a near-perfectly crafted horror comedy that feels like it should be the campiest film on Earth, but manages to tightrope-walk the line between earnest and goofy. Come for the goofiness, stay for the brilliant cinematography, editing and practical effects.

It's hard to say anything really bad about this movie. When your main monster is a worm that lives in the desert on a diet of tourists and rednecks and your heroes are Kevin "look at my girlish hair" Bacon and Michael "Family Ties" Gross as an insane NRA guy, you know you're at least on to something great. Unfortunately the movie is stuck in the kassam between a good "bad movie" and and actual good movie. It will probably never be used in a film class, but it has it's moments.

It's a badly acted idiotic film. But, it's the fun kind of idiotic film where the dumb pieces fit together well, the stock characters are engaging, the story makes just enough sense to engage, and the horror is surprisingly effective despite everything coming off as campy. It's not the kind of thing that excites me, but I found it much more enjoyable than I expected.

Oh, sorry! Pardon my French.

I recall this being more clever and interesting 23 years ago. Nowadays it plays like a bland studio director's take on a 50's creature feature. While the film's blend of horror and comedy is reasonably successful, the direction is rather flat, lacking any kind of cinematic verve, and it takes far too long to gather serious momentum. A strong cast keeps it afloat for much of its duration, and Gross' character is a real hoot. The effects are passable for the budget and era.

Jaws out in the country. With a little more comedy throw in for good measure. By all accounts and based on history, this movie should have been a miserable failure. Tremors has all the camp appeal of a B-Movie, but with tight directing, impressive practical fx, a charmingly likable ensemble and a clever script that features smart characters solving problems. A Neo-western horror movie with rednecks is a really funny idea, and it gets a lot of comedic mileage out of that premise, without resorting to lazy stereotypes.
