Sooo it's like the original RoboCop, but without the cynicism, memorable characters, awesome media satire, deliciously overpowered guns, black humor, sense of urban decay, memorable quotes, gratuitous violence, toxic waste incidents, corporate backstabbing, thrilling action, coke parties, awesome theme song, failed roboprototypes, perfect pacing, likable protagonist, absence of cliched family bullshit and satisfying finale. If I wasn't emotionally dead inside, I'd cry.

Why is Jay Baruchel in this , open your mouth when you talk you human toilet. I blacked out several times during this from choking on my own fat rage. But hey, Robocop 3 isn't the bad one anymore!!!

Time has eroded the '87 version into appearing cheesy, not just in special effects, but in spirit and essence. Technological advancements used to amaze people, but now seem expected. Big corporations used to frighten people, but they're now more or less ignored. So it comes as no surprise that a "RoboCop" remake without serious changes feels insincere and inauthentic. It jogs the memory for people who can think of the late 80's fondly, but is wholly unnecessary and only slightly entertaining.

The only thing I liked is when it showed Robocop as a pair of lungs, a face, and a brain because it looked weird like a science project. If the whole movie was just Samuel L. Jackson pushing this Murphy brain in a jar around in a shopping cart blasting niggas in they motherfuckin' domes with a hand cannon this would have been an all time masterpiece. Instead this is a wet poodle turd and as pointless as the Total Recall remake. You just don't fuck with the Verhoeven classics.

The perfect satire of the movie's own creation. "Make him look more tactical! He should transform; the kids love that! Put in something about foreign politics, the media, domestic politics! Have a scene we can put in the video game! Cut out the humanity! Remove the emotions!" And they end up with this nightmarishly amputated thing, grafted to a big, hulking but efficient machine and they claim that it's just like the original, but whenever it tries to act like the old one it gets shut down.

It's safe, sanitised, homogenised crap, & I don't get how after more than 25 years, the original is the riskier one. I was waiting for the third act for the entirety of the boring first two, & when we finally got there, it was boring, unimaginative, cookie-cutter action. And the lead actor! So dull! This film is really annoying, because there's nothing ostensibly wrong with it, but there's nothing good about it either. It's all surface, no substance. Everything wrong with Hollywood today. Urgh.

Favorite things about this movie: 1. It wasn't an annoying Expendables-esque action film with gaping plot holes and totally stupid villains, especially with how easy that would have been with RoboCop. 2. My friend had a buy a Slurpee/get a free popcorn combo coupon he gave me so obviously I used it, drank the delicious Slurpee, ate about twenty pieces of the popcorn, then dumped the rest of the popcorn on the same friend at the end of the movie. 3. The line, "Why are we so robo-phobic?"

It's way too heavy handed and there's too many useless side characters. It feels like they are just trying to get a PG-13 which is distracting. Every scene with Samuel L Jackson was miserable (nice hair, btw). However, I must say, I laughed pretty hard when they called him tin man. That was just too funny for words! The most shocking thing about this movie is that they actually think Detroit will still exist in 2028.

While it won't blow your mind or even set your heart racing, RoboCop IS entertaining, and everything in it is just barely sufficient to get a passing grade. Solid outings by Oldman and the robo dude, quite funny (a grateful surprise), and a decent score. I know it's a remake, but it feels and behaves more like Dredd's (2010) little underachiever brother.

But much like the title character, any original idea is stripped down to a few disconnected bodyparts and delivered by a somnambulistic automaton of an actor, as the big company behind it hopes to hide any flaws behind a sleek plastic finish.

The 2014 incarnation of RoboCop is not the "death of RoboCop," as we've already had RoboCop 2, RoboCop 3, and that television series everyone likes to forget, but it also doesn't breathe new life into the franchise. This is an emotionally and intellectually repressed film, containing little humor, action, or characters. Apart from a few brief scenes starring Samuel L. Jackson, there is nothing to see, nothing to like, and nothing to remember.

I am surprised that this is the Robocop everyone disliked. I was thoroughly entertained with Oldman, Jackson, and Keaton while Baruchel was functional at best. The action is beautiful and Murphy's character is more developed than previously. Best Robocop so far. Good movie.

RoboCop was high on the list of films that didn't need a remake. I was initially sceptical but upon release I warmed to the idea. The finished product is a mixed bag though. José Padhila clearly understands the source material and there are several nods to the original. But whilst some are crowd pleasing, others are cheaply executed. Kinnaman, Oldman & Keaton all sadly give lackluster performances. This isn't anywhere near as bad as it could of been, but ultimately it's pretty pointless also.

It starts so good but then throws it all away and the pacing slows down to a crawl. The most interesting plot point, the illusion of free will, is mentioned once and then promptly forgotten. I can appreciate that the film tries to find a new angle to the story, but ultimately it falls flat on almost all fronts. And I thought I'd never say this, but the scenes with Samuel L. Jackson are just too long.

Several scenes show extremely poor taste in direction, but its biggest problem is how mind-numbingly boring it is. It's impossibe to relate to any of the characters, which makes watching the film a painful experience.

Why even bother with a remake when the original is (still) so good? If you're not going to sit down and try really really hard to capture the satirical flavour, the social commentary, the humour underpinning each violent scene, the whole lot of other fantastic things I can't be bothered mentioning from the original in this remake... well if you're not going to do that then you're wasting your time, wasting the audiences times, wasting the actors time, wasting everyones fucking time with garbage.

Doesn't bring anything new to the table and the violence has been toned down to make it approachable to all audiences - missing the point of the original's hard edged satire. The action is decent and the cast does the best it can with the material, but why care about it when the original is a better package.

Being a big fan of the original, I didn't see the reason for this to be made. After watching it, still don't think so. The PG-13 rating is a issue, but it's not a film killer. It's action sequences were solid, and there was more attention to the phycological and human emotion segments that I appreciated and that also can attributed to a great cast. However, this setting, rather weak story, and especially a villain that felt thrown together, this was never gonna be on par with the first.

Verhoeven's original, a film I genuinely love, is one of the defining movies of my youth. This remake then was not particuarly welcome. I will say it's not the car crash I was expecting, and like the recent "Total Recall" remake, it's simply a servicable, largely forgettable action sci-fi that's sadly restricted by its 12A certificate. Padilha seemed to know what made the original so great, but had no idea how to create something like it for himself, and fails.

Relatively passable. Lacks proper villains that you love to hate, like those of the original, and it's far worse for it. Additionally Kinnaman is bland, the action scenes tiresome, and Alex Murphy is an extremely boring character in this remake. What's left of satire here is confined to out of place scenes with Samuel L. Jackson, done with zero subtlety or wit. The highlight and true hero of Robocop is Oldman's Dennett Norton, whose arc is surprisingly interesting and really what kept me awake.

Good special effects. A decent extension of the original story. Kinnaman was average but Gary Oldman was good. I did not like the conflict with the trainer. It's also really stupid that his armor still exposes his mouth.The simulations were tedious, and the company drama was lousy. Overriding his brain to full robot mode was dumb. Really lame news broadcasts. The story is a bit jacked, but there is some good action and a bit of decent human struggle and drama.

I went to see an action movie istead of a Robocop movie and I wasn't dissapointed. Don't compare this to original. Just enjoy of the action. The original is flawless and it's an 80's movie. They can't make that kind honest movies any more. The new movie works well in it's own and it doesn't rape the original. It doesn't feel like recycled and that's enough for me.

A Robocop movie that replaces all the fun ultraviolence of the original with political thrills and then replaces the thrills with constant debates in the same laboratory, over and over again. Robocop barely shows up for an hour and about 70 minutes in, I had totally checked out. Unless Michael Keaton was screaming at things. Then I was paying 100% attention.

This movie had pretty much everything going against it, being yet another unnecessary rehash of a gloriously insane Verhoeven sci-fi classic. Yet, surprisingly, it wasn't half bad. I liked that they tried to root the gradual man/machine merger in some actual science, and also the fact, that the people responsible for creating Robocop, weren't flat out antagonistic - that is, up until the botched climax, where the writers unfortunately just gave up.

Ironically in today's era of attention-deficit cinema, RoboCop is a lot more moral and introspective than the original. Gone are the Verhovenisms, like the satirical commercials, the hyper violence and cartoonish villains. Instead there's an emotional undercurrent that raises this above a stupid guy-in-a-suit flick. Finally, was I the only one who found it funny that the entire RoboCop program was being funded by Bruce Wayne?

I've never seen the originals, so I couldn't even compare it to that. But this movie feels like it had a chance but failed to do anything with it. The story and tone of this movie really could have gone in either a dark direction or been more light and fun and exciting. In the end it wouldn't commit to either and that's where it falls. It's not all bad; Oldman is good, I really like Kinnaman, and there are good action pieces. For recent reboots, it's hard not to look at Dredd, which was better.

They modernized the story and the cyborg body well and Kinnaman as 2010's Bruce Willis, shines in this kind of role. The action is uninspired and the story does not carry itself well over the course of the movie. Music also falters, not a bad try but not very good either. And they overdid the body replacement; the lungs might be one of the easiest to replace actually compared to others that they removed.

This really wasn't a bad movie. The acting, especially from Joel Kinnaman could have been a bit more emotional. He is half-robot, but his humanity is showing through. And it didn't really have too much depth. It introduced some ideas and then mostly ignored them, so it ended up being rather shallow. But I didn't see it as a horrible film.

Terribly unfocused most of the time, and I really couldn't give two shits about Joel Kinnaman as Robocop either. The supporting cast is very decent, but the script they had to work with just isn't top notch. The music was definitely a highlight for me though, I could at least enjoy some Focus while watching a messy fight scene.

Admittedly I don't remember the original that much, and I'm sure that this tamed the original. But this isn't bad. It's a solid action movie that isn't that original. I don't really like Joel in the lead most of the time, but sometimes he was okay. The opening segment is intense and pretty awesome, and the social commentary is there, while not being overly militant. So, it was a good time but will I remember it years from now? Nope.

This robot, I mean, reboot of the Robocop film from 1987 was pretty good. It wasn't totally arresting but it did make a good two hours fly by. The cast was pretty beefed up as it had Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Michael Keaton and Abbie Cornish. The action was quite steady, his new black suit was snazzy and they said "I'd buy that for a dollar"...

It started out promising, but RoboCop fails in almost every way. Aside from it being another remake of the same thing, it could have still been good. Unfortunately I thought Kinnaman wasn't approachable at all and I feel that that would have been vital. Aside from the imagery, which is alright, I can't say there is anything special to this movie. It was even boring most of the time. Too bad. 34/100.

Very ordinary. Not bad just plain. The guy who played Robocop wasn't a patch on Weller and the films lacks the brutal violence and sharp satirical aspects of the original. Michael Keaton was OK but no comparison to the guy who played Dick Jones, and the film tries to play the faux-realism card too often rather than create an atmosphere that is intense AND playful. In short, it deals far less successfully with its own epoch than Verhoeven did for Reagan era America.

Action scenes are well delivered throughout and Gary Oldman's performance is first class as per usual. The story is fine but I think a sequal is needed to get straight into the action as this one concentrates on how Murphy becomes Robocop for nearly all of the running time. Its fine but could have been better!

If the Universe deemed a Robocop remake necessary, I suppose we're pretty lucky we got this one. I'll always give a remake points if it legitimately tries to update the source material, even if it doesn't really understand what to do once it gets there. But hey, Samuel Jackson as Bill O'Reilly!

Enjoyable flick that has enough of a difference of the original to make it original. The effects are great and there is good backdrop of futuristic scenes to keep it sci-fi. While Weller is missed there are enough talented actors in here to keep it legit.

I didn't hate it. I expected to only hate it. I expected a vapid boring story only serving to bring about the action scenes. I was surprised to find that the movie has respectable actors with lots of screen time and an interesting psychological take that was a nice distraction from the over the top robot on robot violence.

Gary Oldman was probably a poor choice to cast in a film when nobody else is making an effort as he makes them look terrible. Also, if you're going to have a weird narration device featuring Samuel L Jackson then you'd best do something with it.

This core of this film is a philosophical examination of the spectrum (often confused as a binary) between man/machine. The film surprisingly doesn't condemn the machine, rather, it condemns capitalism and modernity (in their quest for 'progress' regardless of human cost) that poisons this relationship. The film fails on two fronts, though -- it never resonates emotionally, and the film never examines these philosophical issues in any real depth. Yes, the original is much better.

A fair attempt, goes back way past the '87 film, updates the real inspiration; corporations the new 'force'. Hollywood conventions mean the pathos rings hollow and leave this Adam more junky superhero than tragedy -with little of the old one's goofy charm.

This is fine. Doesn't aim to be anything aside from a slam-bang, audience-pleasing programmer, but it buzzes along pretty efficiently, offers some good action and story elements, and contains a surprisingly soulful Oldman performance. Compared to the masterpiece original, it's fairly rinky-dink, but I went into it with somewhat low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It's good.

I LOVE the original, but I was willing to give this one a try. I appreciated some of the updates for the current day, but this movie didn't bring the same level of satire to the corporate and consumer culture that the first one so perfectly did. Ultimately, a few good ideas and themes, but poorly executed.

The only good part for me came at the very end of the movie where he goes after those who want to shut him down. My main issue was that it wasn't RoboCop. His look was off putting, I mean he only became RoboCop at the very end, and the whole make him back and forth about how human he should be was unnecessary.

We can't accurately make a decision on this movie if we try to hold it up to the original. This is a re-imagining of RoboCop with only sparse elements brought over. This isn't a dystopic criminal cesspool, for instance, it's just Detroit, and the motivations for building RoboCop are completely different. Are they better or worse? Subjective. I like that there are multiple unanswered questions to lead to a sequel. Good for what it is: flash, arguably less substance, but entertaining nonetheless.
