The fun, engrossing action of the original has now been set on auto-pilot and feels underwhelming in comparison but it still offers a fresh take by digging deeper into Po's backstory. I also find the luscious, colorful scenery and something about the chinese culture it's build upon to be quite soothing. One of Dreamworks' better efforts.

Kung Fu Panda has evolved into a nice little franchise, much warmer and (if you'll pardon the irony) more human than Shrek and the like. I also appreciate that Po has a very distinct character arc here from the first film (especially after watching The Hangover "Part I Again" Part II).

Gary Oldman is on fire as the highly memorable psycho-baddie Shen. The wealth of ideas from the original carries over to a degree, though disappointingly none of the action scenes match the best from that movie, neither in terms of wow-effect nor choreography. Part of what's missing is the underdog angle. Po and the Furious Five always seem on top here and when there's nothing to worry about there's little to care for, either. Also, the grabs for pathos are misses and it's a bit short on laughs.

If Kung Fu Panda was a dish of noodles, Kung Fu Panda 2 is two dishes of noodles ... that are tastier. Sorry, I'm bad at this whole "make an analogy that somehow also relates to the film" thing. Point is, it's much the same, but it's a lot better in almost every facet in which the original was deficient. It's smarter, more mature, and uses its supporting cast much better, all while still looking beautiful. Kung Fu Panda is what the original should have been, and it's worth seeing.

3 years later Dreamworks Marketing Dept. required a new film as a Franchise Placeholder. To Do list:1. install new external threat 2.Give the already physically accomplished Panda "important" new personal problem 2 grapple w/ 3. Connect personal problem w/ external threat 4.String 2gether w/familiar slapstick/fat jokes. If not 4 the CGI this snoozefest would've gone straight2-dvd. Worse it has the temerity 2 end on the promise/threat of another sequel! Here's hoping this panda becomes extinct.

I was glad they didn't try to rehash the previous film; the added scope and backstory was really nice. I preferred the story to the first one overall, but felt the humour was worse - it was more overt, which had mixed results. A superior aesthetic (it was goddamn beautiful, and the different styles of animation mixed really well) but less immersive action sequences. Enough character development and cool shit to make a worthy sequel, but not a superior one.

People seemed to have mixed feelings on this one, the general consensus was that it was decent but not superior to the original. I disagree. Infact, I'd say it's superior in most ways. I found the humor to be vastly improved (I don't remember laughing at all during the first film, whereas I LOL'd numerous times during this), the story and character development are engaging and dark and it still looks beautiful. The action scenes aren't as good but still pretty damn impressive.

A fairly decent sequel. I liked seeing more of the other anthropomorphic kung-fu animals. There's a lead-in to a third film, which seems like a pretty good idea but will probably turn into a mediocre movie.

Quite underwhelming compared to the first. You can see most of the jokes from a mile away and the "funny things happen in slow motion" joke is a death horse beaten beyond death into the netherworld. That sad it does have some redeeming moments of humour and the story, though tremendously cliche overall, has a couple of touching moments.

My main complaint with the first one was that the Furious 5 got glossed over and didn't get many action scenes or lines. It's almost like they read my complaint and actively worked on it because the Furious 5 played a huge role in this one. An equal partner with the first film despite the original's story being slightly better while the sequel's action reigns supreme. If you like the first I see no reason why you won't like this one as much or better as it's a really fun way to spend 90 minutes.

A bit inferior to the first movie, I think. Probably now because the concept, but also because the action scenes lack a bit of finesse compared. However, I does deliver some great moments and a few really good laughs, and I really liked that they start to dig into the past. An approved reunion of Po and friends.

Way better than the first for two reasons: Firstly we can skip the whole I'm fat and learning Kung Fu jokes, and that makes room for a better, deeper and darker story which probably doesnt suit the little ones but who cares about them anyway? ;-) Secondly this time we get even more of the Furious Five (its not team Diesel/Walker/The Rock). That combined with stunning battle sequences and Po's slow discovery of his past is what makes it this years best animated film yet.

It never lives up to the unexpected awesomeness of the original at any point, in terms of story or character, but it still has its moments. The stuff with Po's backstory & his relationship with his father are easily the most interesting aspects. That comes at the expense of every other character, though, including the main villain. Ultimately, what knocks it the most is how plainly obvious it being a set-up for Part 3 is. It's fun & worth a watch, but a step down.

Pretty nice charming film, the story is deeper when compared to the first movie as it tries portray the origin of Po. I still loved the first part more for the goofiness it had. The goofiness in Po has taken a backstage. The Furious five are given importance in this, which is nice. Overall a nice entertainer, something the kids will love.

A step-up in terms of plotting and characterisation compared to Part 1, but is still hampered by a curious unwillingness to beef up its excellent supporting players in the Furious Five, though Oldman makes for a terrific villain, and Hong is great fun as Po's "father". As with Part 1, the animation is stunning (and stunningly beautiful), which does much to outweigh the movie's imperfections.

Much more enjoyable than I prejudged. I'll admit the storyline and the characters are passable, but the action sequences are so damn fun and stunning to watch it makes me wonder if live-action counterparts could ever live up to how incredible, funny, and clever these action scenes are. Not a masterpiece in animation (though the animation does look extraordinary), but since this film is so snappy and short enough to not overstay it's welcome, it ends up being an enjoyable afternoon out.

Some really good laughs and mostly good voice acting. I didn't like Angelina Jolie's voice acting and Cross, Chan, and Rogen didn't have enough lines. The animation was still pretty top notch. I was disappointed with the cliche flashbacks. The creativity of skirting typical cliches or even parodying them was present in the first and other parts of the second, but for some reason this slipped under the radar.

Excellent opening sequence, especially in 3D. But with the exception of occasional high spots after that, it didn't live up to the original, especially in the middle where even the children in audience were getting restless. The decline in humor was the biggest disappointment. I thought they could have made better use of 3D in the fireworks scenes at the end than they did. Po coming to grips with his past, including the revelation in the final scene leading into KFP3, was fairly engaging.

Kung Fu Panda charmed family audiences and kung-fu fans alike, largely on the appeal of three things: (a) Jack Black's wide-eyed fanboy mugging as Po, a roly-poly panda who loves kung fu and is improbably chosen to become the Dragon Warrior; (b) Dustin Hoffman's gruff but vulnerable mentor, the tiny red panda Master Shifu; and (c) a witty, occasionally inspired send-up of kung-fu movie conventions.

Can you blame a kids' movie for being too obvious with its central message? For Kung Fu Panda 2, I basically have no choice. The first mention of "finding yourself" early on in the movie made me roll my eyes, and the more it was developed (you can take that word with a big grain of salt), the more unnecessary and misplaced it became. There's some more of the great visual action from the first movie, but in terms of narrative and characters, this movie might be even weaker than its predecessor.

It kept the same excellent choreography and storyboarding of the first film, furthur devleoped the plot and characters and, as an added bonus, Commissioner Gordon has shown himself to be a very capable voice actor. But in the long run it still feels, acts and plays pretty much the same as the first Kung Fu Panda did, and whether that's a good thing or not, would, of course, directly depend upon how much you enjoyedor disliked it's predecessor.

Same characters, same plot, same jokes. It's extremely predictable with literally no surprises, giving the characters little depth. What we are presented with here is essentially a paint-by-numbers family film. If you're okay with that, then more power to you. It's pretty harmless brain candy, but if you're looking for more substance or any way to challenge your kids a little, look elsewhere. Again, it's just kind of...there. Ironically zen, in a way.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a worthy follow up to it's predecessor and it's one of the best Dreamworks sequels to date. The novelty of a fat and lazy Kung Fu Panda may not be quite as hilarious second time around, but the story benefits as this franchise has now become more than just a gimmick. Once again Jack Black is perfect as Po and Gary Oldman is a worthy addition. Overall this is a thoroughly entertaining family film that is incredibly animated and choreographed throughout.

Ehhh... Some going-through-the-motions laziness is evident here. This is nowhere near as sprightly as the first one. I wouldn't exactly call it bad--it's got a pleasingly straightforward, samurai-movie style plot--but there's nothing particularly inspired about it, nor is it really all that well-made, aside from some nifty visual detail. My kids were moderately engaged, but this is clearly a summer cash grab. Perhaps it's time to put this franchise to bed...

Of course Kung Fu Panda 2 is visually stunning as we've come to expect from Dreamworks Animation. But what elevates this film is the story and the way we experience Po's personal journey and very human development. Whereas in the first film the most impressive aspects were the physical interactions between characters and photorealistic environments, this film manages to convey human emotions in animated animals on a level that has scarcely been reached on film before. Only WALL-E comes close.

Panda 2 solves most of its prequels thematic issues, but falls with another barren second act that harps on the same subject that's already addressed in the film's opening minute. Maybe because my opinion of the first film is so high, this film stumbled all over the place. It's still good - above average, definitely - but it feels hurried in its own time. The first film gave you time to breath with its characters and goings on, while here, some scenes are unexplained, or too quick, and many logical jumps are made where they shouldn't. I simply didn't believe Po's Christ-like transcendent turn. Also, I hate hate HATE sequel peeking.

KFP2 wasn't quite as "charming" as the first -- perhaps due to the darker tone, or maybe because all of the jokes seemed so familiar. Disappointingly, the supporting cast is almost an afterthought, as this seems to be just panda versus new enemy peacock. That said, I liked the use of different animation styles for the flashback scenes. It's not in the category of "terrible sequels," but the inevitability of the good guys winning makes it feel a little longer than it really is.

It's a superior movie to its predecessor. The first KFP movie saw the start of a general trend upwards in the quality of DreamWorks animated outings, & this second movie certainly adds to that. I enjoyed the character development, the action & animation is still great, & although the script falters in places, it's more than strong enough to survive a 90 minute family movie! Could be considered DreamWorks best; striking the balance between kids movie & genuine quality entertainment very well

Vastly better than the first. The lack of having to sit through yet another tedious 'incompetent oaf becomes a master' story helps a lot The humour is allowed to shine through without quite as many jokes being based on a fat panda falling over things a lot. The action sequences are much more imaginative than before, and the quality of the animation is simply stunning. So my expectations for the sequel were great - the movie starts a bit slow and plain, but then the film switches gears ... and I end up with a sense of awesome animation film-making. And rarely do we in the comic animation universe see successful action emotive strings, but here it succeeds masterfully, and in a way that many action film for adults could learn from.

The script is the biggest problem. The dialog just isn't funny. It's as if people with no real concept of humor looked at lots of other films people found funny and tried to write a screenplay with that basis alone. Also the backstory, while probably the best part of it, is way too backstory, and Tigress' character is explored about ten times less than it should be. It grew on me towards the end. The effects are good. As frederic_g54 says, it's on auto-pilot. Run of the mill Dreamworks.
