Starts off promisingly enough with the introduction of the group of tricksters soon to be known as the "Four Horsemen" and the intriguing premise of using magic as a cover for actual crimes. However, the script violates some of the cardinal rules of storytelling by keeping its most interesting characters (the Horsemen) off screen most of the time and leaning less on true misdirection in favor of directly lying to the audience. This saps a lot of fun out of the mystery and subsequent reveal.

Home to some of the most annoying camera work and pointless uses of CGI I've seen in a long time, Now You See Me fails miserably in trying to get me excited about magic when in fact, it does anything but. And that final revelation just puts a damper on everything that preceded it. What a bullshit movie.

Man, what a letdown. Fast-paced, diverting fun to start, but it twists and twists and twists until you find yourself really, really not giving a shit. Then there's that "surprise" ending, which is underwhelming and disappointing and nonsensical as they get. Well-acted, well-directed, good-looking--it's the script's fault that this is ultimately kind of a drag.

Dreadful, a movie devoid of any personality or real backstory from its main characters, and the Morgan Freeman character exists solely for lazy exposition. Seriously, his character watches from a distance and somehow explains these involved heists just from looking once. The laziest screenwriting of the year.

It's like Mélanie's character says: it's a matter of feeling entertained or fooled. Well, I felt fooled, bored and cheated -- maybe expecting the money would roll down from the theater's ceiling right into my pocket after it finally ended.

Apparently the FBI are the bad guys from home alone and the interpol is a whiny 5 year old girl. Lazy writing followed by ridiculous m night styled twist. Action is just sloppy and confusing and it doesn't help that the story gets so jumpy you have no idea whats going on at moments. Explain all the stupid convoluted big tricks but leave in dozens of unexplained magic that makes no sense and is only there to confuse the audience. It's like someone thought of a twist and just said fuck the rest.

If your goal is to outsmart it then you're playing the wrong game. It's a fun movie that use flashy style and rapid cuts to great effect, always giving you something to follow even if its just misdirection. It's no great thing and has little depth, but it succeeds in entertaining.

The best part of this is not the magic, but the great cast filling out great characters. The shows and the twist are, basically, trickery. By not committing to foreshadowing and by using CGI, this film is able to do whatever it wants, leaving it yelling "Tada!" instead of the audience yelling "Aha!". In that sense, Now You See Me may be more like a successful trick than magic dramas like The Prestige or The Illusionist; it reveals only what it chooses, but still offers a suspenseful, fun ride.

Occasionally fun, but mostly unspectacular, Now You See Me wastes a brilliant cast with a half-formed script full of sketchy characters and a thin plot stretched into far too many minutes. The leads are all as entertaining and charismatic as you'd hope, but they're all turning in basically the same performances you've seen from them in their other, better work, and there's so little to their characters that there's no reason to get invested in them. How did this script take THREE writers?

Wonderfully entertaining Heist movie - very much like the Ocean's pattern of filmmaking. The writing is inventive, punchy and hilarious. The director expertly brings a distinct tone to each sequence: smart mouth magicians turning the tables in FBI interrogation rooms, the glories of a big Vegas style show, or a night time chase across the roof-tops during Mardi-gras. The final tonal shift has problems - it all gets a bit... "magical" and the audience I was with just didn't buy into the ending.

This is one of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen but I still had a fun time watching it! It’s all just ridiculous razzle-dazzle that doesn’t make a lick of sense but it doesn’t take itself seriously and the cast are a lot of fun. A decent one to watch with the parents when you’re home and you know they won’t be into The Square or whatever.

Now You See Me is one of those films where you just have to roll with it and let the absurdity wash over you. The enjoyment of this film is purely superficial and it all amounts to style over substance. As this film states on many occasions, magic is all about deception and distraction. But the irony is that this film in itself uses explosions, glitz and glamour as a deception and distractions to cover up the weak script, half hearted performances and the absolutely ludicrous excuses for twists.

When the film picks up after its grand title is displayed, there's a lot of flashy fun to be had. Everyone does a great job, Eisenberg's fast-talking thing still entertaining with a questionably attractive goatee, and Mark Ruffalo only gets more and more watchable. What the film loses sight of too often is that tricks aren't real, but we want to be tricked, and we want the explanation to blow us away. Not every trick in Now You See Me is treated with the weight of reality, dampening its spirit.

Poof. You end up with nothing to show for your time and indulgence except some bad words rattling around in your brain and the strong sense that with the right tools and skills, you too might be able to stick it to those bad guys in your life. And that's about as empty as a magician's magic hat after his rabbit crawls out. (pluggedin.com)

On the surface, Now You See Me would work so well as a tongue in cheek, self aware, movie adventure. Instead, it becomes so absurd with how clever it thinks it is. Now You See Me struggles to make a interesting and coherent story because it lacks anything of substance aside from continuously doing the "pulling the rug out from under you" trick, and that becomes repetitive fast, and the film as a whole is predictable. Not horrible, the cast was great, but it's not overly impressive either.

The movie is silly and cheesy top-to-bottom, and I'm not sure its plot really holds together at all. But, all the same, it's quick and flashy and colorful and strangely makes room about halfway through for a Mark Ruffalo vs. Dave Franco fight that is one of the most entertaining movie fight of 2013. It's also nice to see a big summer movie that isn't a sequel, prequel, reboot, remake or based on a comic book.

As long as it's well packed, do we really care if it's that good? Think of the Camaro, for example. Now You See Me is a truly magical movie. I was interested in the plot the whole way through. It had an incredible number of twists and turns that kept me guessing for the whole movie. Some of my hypothesis turned out to be true some of them seemed to be the movie leading me towards them. The movie itself turned out to be like a magic trick. The casting was fantastic. Now You See Me is awesome. If you hated this movie it's because you took this too seriously and don't know how fun magic is. This was a way better version of Oceans Eleven because the crooks were magicians. The special effects were neat. The actors were great. I could not guess anything in this movie right. Over the years, I've progressively begun to view magicians as gaudy hacks (except for The Amazing Jonathan--he's awesome), so if you throw a bunch of fictional magicians together in a movie and make one of them Jesse Eisenberg, one of the most irritating character actors out there, you can understand I had some serious reservations to seeing this movie, but fortunately, it didn't suck as much as it should have, in fact, it sucked so little, they made a sequel that I'm considering watching also.

Your enjoyment level of this film will depend on how you feel about the payoff and what you expect the film to be about. I went in looking forward to an Ocean's Eleven style take on The Prestige. What I got was a detective film not focused on the four magician characters. I never knew where the film was headed, but once it reveals itself, I found it to be a silly exercise in misdirection that wasn't quite worth the effort. Strong cast, slick enough ride, little payoff.

Now You See Me boasts an impressive cast, and though it doesn't really showcase anything new, it is pretty entertaining throughout. Over the top CGI, sci-fi-esque moments of action, characters that are 2-dimensional, and plenty of glitz, all set the mood for a film that doesn't take itself too seriously but knows how to have fun. If you can suspend your disbelief, and possibly your lofty expectations, you might just have fun too.

The best bit of the movie is the very start, the very very start, the bit when you see some supposed magicians/illusionists/tricksters at play. The only magic here is obvious CGI and deus ex machina gimmicks to prop up a lazy plot written by hacks. There's a Harry Potter'ish magician's illuminati that's been around since ancient egypt! This also has "magic-fu" which the lesser Franco demonstrates in a pointless fight scene. Isla Fisher needs to go back to acting school. The plot twist at the end made me want to jab the drink straw into my eye. Morgan Freeman fell asleep on camera while doing a PR interview for this film..I can see why.

Is for the most part deeply unimpressive. The whole thing unravels aimlessly and anticlimactically in the last third to a predictable and tedious conclusion. I have no idea what mark Ruffalo was up to in this movie. He's a horrid piece of casting and looks utterly lost come the final gobsmakingly obviously twist. Not too much fun when everything is this formulaic and predictable (the big reveal is obvious by the end of the first act, by a process of eliminating the too likely suspects). None of it makes any sense once you stop to think. What does Fisher do in this group? Oh, she's the girl. That's it. That's all she does. Laurent is the best part of this by far.

The movie was made infuriating by the fact that every single law enforcement officer acted entirely on split second impulse and no one stopped to plan anything. Begins brightly with a clever bank robbery and a promising first half, then becomes a bit dull and generic in the middle, before going downhill completely in the final third, to the extent that when the credits roll you're glad the rubbish in front of you is over. The end sucks, not just because the twist is nonsensical (flashbacks of the person in a hoodie "there the whole time" isn't enough explanation), but because the dumb carousal final scene leaves behind the cool Robin Hood-esque motivations of the team for some lame secret club idea-and the cocky characters already weren't that likeable. An entertaining film that is much more theatrical than The Prestige. It's been compared time and time again to that film, and it is hard to admit that it isn't similar. The Prestige had understandable twists, but with all the action and visual effects in this one, even though the twists were not as spectacular, Now You See Me is understandably deceiving and also deliberately showy. Now You See Me is a very poor movie, and there's really nothing to keep you interested for the nearly two hours it's on the screen, save for a twist you won't be able to figure out because the film doesn't give you the chance. It has no real characters, a poor sense of style, an incredibly slow pace, a distinct lack of magic, and doesn't even become watchable until after it has been playing for an hour. You have no reason to watch Now You See Me, and I definitely recommend against doing so.

Loved it. Didnt see that ending coming. One of those flicks which ends and has you immediately rewind and rewatch.

It was interesting, and was caught a little bit near the end but it is far from my favourite magic movie. It seemed like it was a little busy and they really failed to develop their main characters, as they all looked thin and really didn't care about any of them. Switch off your brain and it's entertaining enough to like it a little.

Over the top. Kinda keeps you wanting to see more but is just pure disappointment. Not awful but not in any way recommended.
