A problematic movie, Tomorrowland winds up much more like a lecture than a special effects-driven sci-fi adventure movie. It doesn't focus as much on the futuristic city of Tomorrowland as you'd expect, and it gets very preachy toward its finale. Its good actors are wasted on shallow characters. Despite all of this, it moves at a breezy pace, is moderately funny, and a well-meaning, poorly delivered message. 130 minutes fly by, even if they don't all hold up on further inspection.

I liked this! It's a bit on the heavy-handed and ham-fisted side in the third act, but I think forgivably so; it certainly doesn't tank the movie by any stretch, though it does shift the tone a bit in a way that may kinda lose the younger audience (which was sizable at my particular viewing). Surprising to me that this was Britt Robertson, who I only know as the chick from "The Longest Ride", who at 25 is a pretty convincing teenager. I never found myself bored or unengaged. Worth checking out!

At face value, Tomorrowland is a charming little bit of entertainment. Yet, it lacks a lot of the depth and sense that I come to expect from Bird. The plot feels extremely rushed and many plot holes reveal themselves early on. Though I had no problems with the acting or direction, the struggle they had with getting their message across was also very apparent. Tomorrowland was not awful, but it certainly wasn't good; missing a lot of the ingredients needed to form a coherent story.

Not nearly as bad as everyone is making it sound by any means. Tomorrowland's story seems decent and the characters/actors play well together, but the writing itself is either too familiar or just somewhat thin (maybe even both). However, the leads are all quite good and the visuals aren't half bad. Decent directing too! I'll give it probs for being entertaining and not getting boring, which is probably what they were aiming for. Definitely feels like a live-action Disney movie.

Brad Bird has given us a unique experience that's sometimes thrilling, and always engaging. It doesn't make very much sense, and the script suffers from Lindelof's involvement, but Tomorrowland is a solidly enjoyable adventure that reminds us how very privileged we are to live in a time when Brad Bird is directing films.

I can definitely see that there was effort put into this movie, but the script was such a huge mess. Most of the film was spent just trying to figure out what the heck was going on, and what it all led up to was a decent message hammered in WAY too hard. Very disappointing.

Tomorrowland can't figure out how to get started, and the script, which wants to unravel like a blooming flower, instead rolls into itself so many times it almost self-destructs. But it's oddly infectious, it's super kinetic, and despite being filtered through the Disney Magic Machine, it's bold enough to ask you to stop being a piece of shit and to try harder. It also has two very empowering young female role models that kick a lot of ass, so kids might "get" this more than adults.

Exciting YA adventure saga painted in broad, cheerful strokes is a welcome palate cleanser from the doom and gloom that generally permeates this genre; Bird's loony, eccentric and cartoonish tone finds its ideal match in Robertson and (especially) Cassidy's spirited performances. Creates a real old-fashioned aura of aw-shucks Spielbergian wonder, but unfortunately becomes a little too heavy handed and didactic in its closing scenes (not to say it doesn't end on a positive, affirmative note).

Fun & charming movie that has something to say and doesn't make any bones about it, which I respect. I'm a fan of paranoid, middle-aged Clooney, and Britt Robertson is good and very likable in her role. My biggest critique is that the exposition at the beginning takes FOREVER to get through. I feel it would have been more effective had they forgone Clooney's backstory & started right in Robertson's world, & then worked Clooney's backstory in throughout.

A great, but flawed, film. It's very imaginative, which makes sense because it keeps talking about imagination and whatnot, with wonderful visuals and a realized world which would have been more compelling had we seen even more. Good performances all around, some really funny parts, good action, excellent direction Bird. I'm okay with preachy but this didn't need it; the film had been poking us with its themes throughout and the exposition dump slowed the pace down.

A weak climax and an even weaker denouement, but getting there's a lot of fun--more fun, I thought, than a lot of people are letting on. Charming interplay between Robertson and Cassidy and a few imaginative, high-spirited set pieces made for a much livelier, more likable viewing experience than I was honestly expecting. Clooney's a non-presence, sure, but this flick's been getting a bum rap. I dug it a lot.

Looking at Google Earth reveals what condition the planet's condition is in, raising the question of whether and how a bifurcation could be introduced by which to exit the Anthropocene. The answer is inevitably too Disneyish, but the fact that audiences and critics preferred MAD MAX: FURY ROAD proves the villain's analysis correct: a dream-cum-nightmare factory succeeds because it feeds apocalyptic fantasies (of now two generations of filmgoers infantilised by blockbusters) that make no demands.

This is the Tell about how Walker finally made it to Tomorrow-Morrow Land. OK, so the writers like 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome'. Laurie's Governor Nix even has the same last name as one of the characters - that girl, Savannah. Now that I've squandered most of my mini-review on these rather irrelevant and completely useless observations, let me just say that this is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a Disney blockbuster with a Damon Lindelof script.

Let's see....Disney makes an original movie and of course it flops at the box office. This is why I hate general audiences..they only go see remakes and sequels. Brad Bird continues his string of good films, and although the ending is a bit plodding, this should have been a big hit.

Good CGI, impressive vision of the future architecture, very "Disney approach" direction, unexpected deaths (have you EVER seen a human being killed in front of the camera in any Disney movie?! I don't. Maybe they are all robots... I don't know.). Not a masterpiece, but funny, entertaining and well played. I am going to watch it again.

A review of Tomorrowland is like a high school English teacher grading a D-student's essay titled, "The Person I Admire Most Is My Mom." It’s sweet but has problems. The philosophical conflict (optimistic pasts vs. dystopian futures) is so flawed you root less for whining heroes and more for the villain. The humor is flat and the structure all over the place. So, while George Clooney is good & Britt Robertson is an appealing personality this is really only for small kids getting into sci-fi.

The first big disappointment of 2015, if only for the pedigree of its director. It looks stunning, has wonderfully directed action sequences and a message worth telling, but the screenplay is muddled with a constant stream of exposition. For a movie that spends so much time telling its main character to stop asking questions and enjoy the ride, it is sad that it doesn't heed its own advice. Instead we have a very competently made adventure film that never reaches the potential of its ideas.

I'd like to congratulate this movie on it's seminary degree. It's level of preachiness was the most I've seen in any movie that wasn't a documentary (even more preachy than propaganda films). The story has to explain everything and still has to many questions and plot-holes and the 3rd act is worst than Lindelof's last couple attempts. The acting by both of the main girls is fine, George Clooney phones it in, but I don't blame him. ALL YOU NEEDED TO DO WAS SET IT IN TOMORROWLAND NOT OUR WORLD.

Even though I admit, I didn't realise the movie was coming to an end, it just doesn't hold too much ground, the plot develops two slowly, then ends very quickly without too much happening. It depicted three completely divergent "flavours" of science fiction, a tremendously creepy love story, no depth whatsoever, a bizarre out-of-left-field preachy condemnation of apocalyptic fiction (WTF?), poorly defined unlikeable characters, and a third act that was so confusing and strange. Confusing, hard to follow. Characters are a motley trio of middle aged, 20 something & precocious young girl, that don't mesh well. A retro futuristic society that is at times silly looking. It may take me 4 watchings to figure out the plot, but I don't care enough. Starts off too slow then moves at a breakneck pace. Is there an editor in the house?

The cheese is strong with this one. And what's really ironic is the way it preaches to us not to resign ourselves to the Earth's demise, but at the same time resigns itself to cinema's -- by stringing together every vapid blockbuster trope in existence, including a cheap sci-fi allegory, heroes and villains, guns, evil grunts losing martial arts fights, a vomit-inducing romantic subplot, and of course, expensive CGI spectacles.

Unfortunately not as cool as the trailer looks. Honestly, not even the same genre of film as the trailer. The trailer looks like a break out for Disney with a solid action/sci-fi film. This is an action/sci-fi film, but still very much a Disney film. That being said though, it's stunning, but more of the at home on DVD kind of stunning.

Very original plot and I enjoyed this movie very much. It did get a little too "Inspector Gadget" for my own personal taste toward the end. But, regardless, this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long while!! Not to mention you leave this movie wanting to make an impact!

This film definitely has some issues with pacing and structure, and its message is probably a little too far out there for me to get behind it, but when Tomorrowland is at its best, it sweeps you up into pure magic, where the past's vision of the future serves as a breeding ground for an adventurous and bold blockbuster that combines Spielberg's sense of wonder with Disney's enduring optimism and love of visual design. It's a great movie, guys. Have a fucking heart.

I thought this movie was really entertaining. All of the lead actors did very well. I did think there was some plot holes in it, but other than that i thought it was pretty great. The lead girl, Brittany Robertson, did pretty good. The actress who play Athena, Raffey Cassidy, did very well. I haven't seen her in anything else, but she did great. This movie had great effects, acting, and directing.

Speaking as someone who should have loved this movie, Tomorrowland is really disappointing. It starts off well enough, with a fun sci-fi actioner designed to appeal to kids as well as full-grown nerds. But the ending is so nonsensical and preachy that it almost ruins the rest of the film.

I remember when this came out but I never heard anyone talking about it and so I forgot about it. I picked it up on Blu-Ray and then again I forgot about it. Finally over a year later I decide to watch it with my wife and you know what...I liked it, in fact I liked it a lot. I admit it get quite preachy at the end and it ends with a whimper instead or a bang but its still are really fun ride.

I've been preaching a whole lot of hate for a long time for the "exceptional teen" trend in kids and YA movies and literature, and I'm growing a little impatient of the sci-fi trend of reverting back to the olden days where the "sci" part of "sci-fi" had less to do with science and more to do with the dreamy future fueled only by imagination. But there's something a little different about this, it targets a younger age than the other offenders and in doing so, it almost captures a bit of wonder.

This movie is an entirely original and dreamlike homage to the great classic scific stories of the past, and something we need more of. Yes, the plot and story went a bit aloof in the final act, but there's nothing wrong with the dreamers or optimists and seeking them out. It looks good, it's clean, and is filled with spectacle - really what the movies are all about. Story is a wonderful thing, but not always needed.

Tomorrowland is a rarity in that it's a big budget original story, that on the whole is rather enjoyable. Bird does occasionally detract with directorial cliches, such as over-drawn shots of things flying, unnecessary heightened tension, and lengthy exposition. Robertson's acting is often over the top, but still manages a decent job, as does Clooney. Laurie and Cassidy, however, were a delight to watch. Even with all its flaws, it delivers on fast-paced action and an unrelenting theme of hope.

I'm still sorting through my feelings on it (and may update my score later in the year). Like previous Damon Lindelof projects Lost and Prometheus, it introduces a lot of big, interesting ideas then doesn't know quite what to do with them. Like, this movie brings up all these heady topics of the world, humanity, progress, science, hope, cynicism, and our shared responsibility to the future, then ends with trying to get a bomb in the right place. It sure looks great, though!

It could have been one of the best Spielberguian -- and not ironic or cynic -- adventures of recent times -- but it seems like Bird had been hanging around too much with Abrams and his folks. Tomorrowland promises a lot, but is unable to create a mythology.

There's something to be said for making an original film in today's industry. Too bad this one didn't quite pan out. Tomorrowland is able to highlight a couple good performances from George Clooney and Britt Robertson, but Hugh Laurie's villain seems a little thin. Brad Bird's direction is great too, but the third act makes the plot and characters of the first two acts seem incredibly thin. There's such a good build-up to the film's climax that when it fizzles out, it feels like a huge letdown.

Brad Bird is a very visionary director but I'm not sure his and Damon Lindelof's weak script fulfill his vision. Genuinely close to being something quite special, but the ungainly screenplay struggles with the bigger concepts & the it felt like at times Bird didn't want to explain things to the audience, being more interested in sermonising. Regardless, there is so much to like here. Beautifully designed & shot, with good characters & relationships, the central trio of Clooney/Cassidy/Robertson worked really well together & each were individually excellent. Flawed, but I've a definite soft spot for this.

A great movie for children. It has a bit of wonder and several young characters. Brittany Robertson was enjoyable. Raffey Cassidy was a pure delight as the sweet young robot girl. George Clooney was mostly entertaining. The movie moved along well and remained entertaining but was never convincing. I disliked the future police, the some of the heavy handed plot points and ecology lecture. Some nice special effects and computer graphics. Worth watching but not much was very notable.

The optimistic Casey (Britt Robertson) and the jaded Frank (George Clooney) go to the fabled Tomorrowland, a manifestation of humanity's peak potential, in order to save the human race from its impending destruction. An appreciable anti-dystopian tone and some lovely sequences perk up a rather messy and compromised film, which fails to reconcile its lofty (and vague) ambitions with the demands of blockbuster filmmaking. Michael Giacchino's score has the right idea, however.

As great as it was to see my hometown of Valencia on the big screen, this film was a real disappointment. Clooney really seemed to be phoning it in, and a lot of the mawkishness that works in Brad Bird's animated films fell really flat here.

I enjoyed the first half, but once the plot really kicked in and they explained the reasons for everything that was happening, it kind of lost that sense of wonder a little and became convoluted and rather preachy. I liked the message, but it wasn't subtle at all. I didn't find the performances very inspiring either. It's a shame, given all the potential the film had. Still, it's visually spectacular, and there are some genuinely great scenes.

SPOILERS: I wanted to see the actual Tomorrowland in this movie, I wanted to see creativity and imagination. I wanted to be whisked away in a grand adventure. All I got was a chase movie, and big build up to Tomorrowland, and in the end it is all about saving our world. What is the point, we have seen this before, she is the chosen one, doomed planet, bland evil villain. Total letdown.

Breakaway technocracy goes gulching on an alternate earth, poaches promising scientific/creative talent from the moribund 'earth prime' - an idea that should rock its sf nards with Carruthian poise. Instead, we get a concept film afraid to explore its own concept. We get muddling action sequences where there should be exposition in service of an inspired plot. We get Disney flaunting their acquisition of Star Wars. It verges physical pain to see what this movie ~almost~ was.

I really wanted to like this movie. It should work. It's kinda charming. But the lesson... the message... the plot... none of it quite works. It is kinda cute as long as you don't think about it. But it all comes apart with minimal prodding.

I hope this isn't what the Disney films of tomorrow will be, or our future will be grim indeed. This movie wasn't all bad. I liked the two lead females and some of the side characters. I didn't care much for doom and gloomy Clooney. I think I basically heard the dangers of climate change 3 or 4 times before the movie ended. We were also instructed on why wars are bad and people shouldn't be obese and starving in different parts of the same world...

A lot of build up and a little bit of a disappointing ending, but other than that Tomorrowland does entertain well. I must without a doubt say that Cassidy stole the show. Robertson was very good too, and I do think they could have found a better fit than Clooney was but I'll just let that go. Nice to watch, beautiful visuals and just fun. 68/100.

There's so much good going on here that it's hard to conclude that there isn't much of a story. 'Tomorrowland' is a big, robust, visually exciting barrage of puzzle pieces that leave the audience in the dark throughout the movie. So much of the movie literally tells us to 'stop asking questions and just be amazed,' but if the story were coherent and if Bird gave us more than glimpses of 'Tomorrowland,' the movie would work. At the end, I still don't know what Tomorrowland or the robots are.

This was unexpectedly hilarious, engaging and entertaining; Kudos to Raffey Cassidy who played Athena as an absolutely convincing ageless robot, thereby avoiding any potential weird of past-middle-aged Clooney's love for her. Unfortunately lost its dynamic feel and entertainment value towards the end, as it tried far too hard to push a message.

About 3/4 of the movie are spent on getting to Tomorrowland. For the entire time the lead who, like us, has no idea what's going on, asks questions: all are dismissed and she's even ridiculed for not being able to enjoy the ride in silence. Then, in little over 20 minutes, we get a sad world-is-ending reveal, a light bulb moment for the hero, a big baddie showing his true nature, a love story delivered via a 1 minute long data-log and a p.c. preach at the end to close it off.

The actors are generally good but feel wasted, except Raffey Cassidy who does an amazing job as Athena, easily the best thing about this film. The sci-fi elements are nice but feel too limited and could have been explored more. All in all it takes a lot of Hollywood clichés and combines them in something that feels like you've seen it countless times before. Not terrible, but overly familiar

Disney inspired terminators search for some magical pin do-dads that magically transport some people through quantum something or other into the space time continuum and they can see the future like someone hallucinating on DMT. Clooney is the charming silver fox scientist. It has some tough chick young girl archetype who rides around on her motorcycle and does and says stuff no actual girl does in real life. There's some sci-fi plot and it ends leaving you slightly puzzled over the film.

This is a movie that didn't know what it wanted to be. Action? Fantasy? Political Statement? The first part was pretty fun, then it just fell apart. The final part, where everything gets fixed, makes no sense what-so-ever. If not for the fun first part of this movie, my rating would have been much lower.

a man loses faith in the potential of humanity and becomes a world-threatening villain because of it. i've never seen that idea in a japanese video g- ah, a hollywood movie before. nah, this is kinda cute and fun, though i wasn't really paying that much attention.
