Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

2 hours of lovable leads interspersed with action scenes that are as unwatchable as drug trip scenes. That ain't a good movie. This could've been something. No, with Leitch here, this SHOULD have been something. A high octane guilty pleasure. What happened, Dave!?

Over the top shark jumping balls to the walls movie, I guess I really needed to see exactly this at the movie theater tonight so I liked it a lot. Lovely spinoff, hoping for more of it someday.

Some entertainingly over-the-top action scenes (minus the visceral sense of danger Tom Cruise provides) & lots of fights but given the athleticism of its 2 leads, they should be better than they are. If Keanu can do John Wick...The humor & leads' charisma help make them likable as they often talk & act like dick-swinging high school jocks. They avoid accusations of toxic masculinity by having a woman who never needs rescuing & Johnson pointedly (& implausibly) talking respectfully about her

This is a giant cartoon and as such its fun, but surprisingly not as fun or funny as I was expecting and the second half comes to a screeching halt when they try to inject a family message into the movie. Not really disappointed but still.

A very silly buddy movie with a few amusing moments. Prophetic.

Hobbs and Shaw is far from an objectively great film. Some of the action sequences are a little messy, the CGI style is off in a few places, and there are minor plot-holes. However as a Fast & Furious spinoff, this film delivers a high-adrenaline, ludicrously silly, spy adventure with plenty of banter from Statham and Johnson that makes up for its shortcomings. It's an action-comedy that crowbars in the central theme of the franchise, "family". It's fun, and that's really all it needed to be.

The Rock does exactly what you expect to the Fast & Furious franchise. He turns it into an even sillier, ludicrous action romp that is less about family and more about family. He plays the The Rock version of Luke Hobbs and trash talks with Jason Statham for a little more than two hours. BUT: I can't say I didn't enjoy most of it. It's funny, entertaining and over the top. And that is a lot for a The Rock movie.

The best Fast and the Furious movie. Ridiculous and over the top embracing its pseudo-Superhero movie persona. The Rock and Jason Stathem have insanely great chemistry. Idris Elba is a fantastic villain and the side characters are hilarious. The love interest and script logic fall under "Fast and Furious logic" but you dont come here for an oscar movie.

Hobbs & Shaw is a spinoff that makes sense. These two had such explosive chemistry in the Fast & Furious movies that it nearly seemed like they were taking center stage anyway. That chemistry followed the two leads here, where they once again do a great job opposite of one another. Adding Idris Elba into the mix, and his uniqueness made this film a lot of fun. It won't win any awards, but it is great fun, regardless.

My first foray into the F&F universe. This struck me as CGI action barely held together by a ridiculous plot. It was way too long & the super hero aspect turned me off. I like Statham and the Rock though.

Abysmal FURIOUS spin-off takes a bizarre left turn into sci-fi with Elba's Terminator-like villain and action scenes which become more frenetic as basic coherency is left by the wayside. Statham and Johnson are fine men of action, but struggle against the at times convoluted (and illogical) screenplay. A couple of amusing cameos from Mirren and Reynolds are the comparative bright spots.

No more or less ridiculous than the others. A fun watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

I am of the understanding that this film's main message, eloquently presented, about putting past issues behind for the betterment of the world will thus result in Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel doing likewise and teaming up for the next installment. In the meantime, this entry in the series is not cluttered with stars, but is cluttered with sheer ridiculousness and full-throttle cinematic wonder for the action blockbuster genre, yet it is the stars that still manage to keep it grounded.

Of course it doesn't make sense. What did you expect? I got what I expected. Entertainment.

This movie is so damn enjoyable. I was seriously surprised by this. I haven't seen most of the FAF movies and wasn't familiar with either of the characters, but I found this to be genuinely enjoyable. The characters work really well together and have a very entertaining relationship and dynamic. Vanessa Kirby is another likable addition who was equally as entertaining in the Mission Impossible film she was in. I recommend this to any fan of the franchise, and give 7 fresh turkeys out of 10.

Another great movie from the Fast franchise.

A spin off that takes the two best things from the main series and gives them their own movie. I'd watch anything with either The Rock, or Statham, so a movie with both of them is like mainlining pure action. This one worth checking out even if you haven't seen any of the others.

as a spin-off Metal Gear Furious: the Twin Shaws has the opportunity to make some visual innovations for the series, particularly comedically; it opts to do nothing. most jokes miss, and the editing suggests the producers — who star in the movie — think they're much funnier than they actually are. I adore this series, but for its campy, bizarrely crafted universe in which driving a car is a superpower. this movie squanders that. instead, we get stunt casting and jokes written for Red Foreman

How do you take two of cinema's most charismatic actors working today, give them a villain played by the only man who should be playing James Bond, and fuck everything up? Give the film to a director who has only directed one good film and that was a co-director position. This film is just bad.

It says a lot about how Americans view Brits that Statham is seemingly intended to be a suave and sophisticated character. Appropriately silly and bombastic, with excellent visuals, great chemistry between the leads (and another awesome turn by Vanessa Kirby) and some super fun cameos, although I don’t know much about the series so I didn’t expect quite so much casual misogyny and alpha male stuff. I’m not exactly sure how a car mechanic could fix the virus tech machine thing but hey sure

popcorn madness.

OTT summer action fare. It serves its purpose but little more. Most of your enjoyment will depend on your opinion of Johnson and Statham as leads but H&S is relatively faithful to the formulae of the recent Fast and Furious films so you should know what to expect from this movie if you've seen any of those. Ryan Reynolds is the MVP though, stealing the movie in the few scenes he's in.

Very enjoyable action movie. I enjoyed it more than most movies from mainline series to be honest. Rock and Statham is a good duo.

It's entirely brainless entertainment, and that would have been alright... Had the movie not decided not to end after the climax, choosing instead to overstay its welcome by tacking on a second climax.

Wanted a big, dumb, over the top-action flick, and got it. Could have been a bit shorter though, I thought the big assault at the end of Act 2 was going to be the end of Act 3, but had another hour to go. Action sequences, especially the fight scenes could have been improved without the quick cuts, making it more difficult to see what was going on.

I'm impressed they managed to insert so much machismo into a single picture!

It's about damn time this franchise completely leaned into the idea that it's functionally indistinguishable from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and started treating its heroes and villains accordingly. Cartoonishly stupid and juvenile and fun as hell. I could watch Statham and Johnson trade insults all day long.

Surprise. The Fast and Furious franchise has a cousin who is also stupid and in love with bad CGI. At least the Kevin Hart plane scene is entertaining.

Started out ok, turned in to better than ok and ended up being good. Lame and silly in so many ways but I eat it raw. Fast, furious and FAMILY is all over this movie, and The Rock and Statham do just what you could expect. *Recommendable

Strap yourself in, because this movie has crazy-fun, over-the-top action, with an equally ridiculous plot. Even the choice of location for the final act (though great), comes out of nowhere. Having said this, they did choose the two best characters from the franchise and possibly the two most likeable and charismatic actors going around to make this work. They have great chemistry and play-off of each other well. The addition of Idris Elba just completes this testosterone-fuelled action ride.

High budget rubbish.

Hobbs and Shaw follows diplomatic security agent Luke Hobbs and riotous Deckard Shaw. Despite the fact that there is still a tense atmosphere between the two, fate brings them back together and they have to work together against their will. The pair have to compete against an unbeaten opponent who goes by the name of Brixton.

Did NOT give me the same testosterone high that F&F movies do

Seemed fine, but never as exciting as the last few F&F movies. Being wanted criminals barely registers except that it provides an explanation of why more resources aren't given to the leads (yet the CIA backs them?). The comedian bits are oddly unintegrated, maybe recorded later?

The last FF movies were already completely over the top, but I still loved them. This film... Well... It's too much. It's so unbelievable it's getting ridiculous and the verbal aggressiveness between Statham and Johnson is just childish and offers really nothing except maybe a sporadic smile. A huge letdown to me.

Over the top and too long, but there are quite a few fun and action-packed scenes making it worth the view.

Let me just get this out of the way: I've never seen a Fast & Furious movie. So perhaps this movie wasn't for me. I assumed as a spinoff, it would be fine to see without the others, and I think that's still true, but the movie just doesn't appeal much to me at all. The story is pretty dumb, and the endless bickering got tired quick. I think once they started getting along better, things got more enjoyable though, and Vanessa Kirby was great in every scene she was in.

Did not feel like a fast & furious film. 1st half was decent and then it went downhill from there.

Universal still owes by brother in law $10k for using a song he wrote and produced in the end credits

While I really liked the chemistry between the two leads, these Fast and Furious movies are just so dumb. The end was just an eye-rolling embarrassment. Some of the early action scenes, especially the stuff involving Statham, were pretty good in a vacuum.

Easily the most boring and juvenile film in the franchise.

This is much better than any marvel movie. It's the perfection of a ridicilious premise.

Weirdly, this series is now drifting (car pun) more into sci-fi. The fact of this one being a spinoff means they aren't legally obligated to include one minimum street race in the movie. In a laughable sequence near the end, the bad guys fight a hand-to-hand battle (because their Smart Guns couldn't get a wi-fi signal) which goes from middle of the night to broad daylight to heavy storm in less than 30 in-movie minutes.

God in Heaven help me but I actually enjoyed it. Everyone involved seemed to be actively enjoying what they were doing and that goes a much longer way than you would think. Along these lines Johnson couldn’t be any prouder of his Samoan heritage and the complete illogic of the finale actually improves as a result.

I feel like the fast franchise boiling-frogged everyone and is now literally just the MCU with less colorful costumes.

Its super cheesy but kinda funny. It would have been a hit in the 80s. (Ryan Reynolds is never funny enough when he is supposed to be.)

Gonna do something I rarely do and rate a film I didn't finish. I'm not sure it's absolute trash but I would honestly have preferred it being that. I can't find anything of substance to even talk about, good or bad.
