This was very good! Holland delivers a great performance as both Peter Parker and Spider-Man and Keaton plays a well-written Vulture pretty dang well. The movie is surprisingly well done for something thrown into the MCU at the last minute. However the story develops the character right and seems like an appropriate opening for him. Definitely feels like a comic book movie should and how a Spider-Man movie should. Fans shouldn't be disappointed and neither was I.

It's weird, usually I need to see Uncle Ben sacrificed to know what is going on but this didn't need it. Finally found a Parker with a great blend of comedy and ... not comedy.

Best Spiderman film since Sam Raimi's Spiderman 2. Shows what its like growing up with Avengers and aliens and how things look from the ground level in the MCU. It's funnier than a lot of comedies with plenty of jokes that come from character beats. Michael Keaton's Vulture is given enough screen-time to end up as Marvel's best villain; human, well rounded, relatable and intimidating. Without the usual world ending doomsday device the lowered stakes help to create a stronger more personal movie.

I avoided this one since I was more or less done with Spidey after years of crappy comics and the umpteenth movie reboot with an even younger actor, and being old, I hate young people. But with a scowl (what we in the industry call a 'snubface') I have to admit that this was just allround effective superheroin'. Good balance of plot and action, a decent escalation of danger and Keaton is a great villain. My nephew is gonna love the shit out of this, and that's good enough for snubby ol' me.

Fun stuff. "Are you Spider-Man? Do a flip!" Great tone throughout but didn't dethrone the second entry as my favorite. I certainly have more controversial opinions on trivial matters. Lorenzo Lamas being awesome, Zima needing to make a comeback, the '71 Cuda being the ultimate muscle car and, of course, chocolate malts being better than sex.

A fun movie with a young superhero. Many good comedy moments and excellent CGI and SFX. Fast paced and fun. Good music and production quality. It has a lot of action and excitement. Despite the silly powers, crazy technology, and double-dealing nemesis, it was engaging and entertaining. Worth watching.

This feels like the millionth reboot of Spider-Man, and I haven't seen the one that came before. Anyway, this was good, driven largely by the likeable cast. Like the rest of the Marvel films, this is likeably competent rather than stellar, and a decent way to spend a couple of hours.

What I said in my "Civil War" review holds up nicely here...Tom Holland is the BEST Spider-Man! While I still think Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is the best Spidey flick, this one gets extra bonus points for not doing another origin story, and connecting it to the MCU with just a few scenes. Keaton improved on what was a terrible villain in the comics, the Vulture...basically just an old bird man. Wait....BIRD MAN you say...my god!!!!! Mind blown.

This latest iteration of Spider-Man stands to incorporate him into the Marvel series, and it ties in well, even stands on its own two feet. But it's hard to distance my perception of this one from the previous two series simply because this is the third person to play Spider-Man in fifteen years. It's a little bit of a slower movie compared to the others, but Parker's come to terms with his responsibility and Keaton's villain with understandable motives put this up to snuff and a cut above.

It's between this and Raimi's Spider-Man 2 for best Spider-Man movie. Holland is easily the best Spider-Man ever and it just nails the feel of the character perfectly, everything about this interpretation is right on par with the character I've been reading comics about since I was a kid, and when this movie is at its best it nails the feel of those books. Structure and pacing are a little off and the third act is a bit eh but on the whole this knocked it out of the park.

Homecoming is a refreshingly small scaled addition to the MCU and tonally it's most comparable to Ant-Man. This almost feels like a sequel with an arc that's already in motion as the origin story that we know and have seen several times has not been unnecessarily repeated. Tom Holland is the best and most accurate Peter Parker to date and Michael Keaton & RDJ add star quality. Homecoming works best as a teen movie with natural comic relief and touches that are reminiscent of a John Hughes film.

A well-executed mix of goofy teen comedy (see the hilarious school news reports), wild superhero action, and authentic coming-of-age drama (see the breakdown beneath the rubble). It's the most down-to-earth MCU film yet thanks to its blue-collar, nuanced villain (see his slight post-credits redemption) and the continued interplay (dramatic but also humourous: see Cap's instructional videos) between the mature but distant Avengers and our eager but juvenile hero ("I'm nothing without the suit!").

As a lifelong Spidey fan, I'm not joking when I say that one the of my few regrets being in Africa has been not being able to get to a theater for this movie. Finally saw it, and it does so much well. Holland's Parker is spot on, Spider-Man has the right tone and action, the effects were top notch, and the Vulture was good. My complaints are basically two: Why did they completely change every side character from the originals, and what in the name of Tony Stark is that high tech A.I. costume??

I know people are sick of reboots but somebody actually having the gumption to successfully reboot Alejandro Iñárritu's 2014 magnum opus Birdman is pretty impressive. Also, these high school kids kinda actually look like high school kids and its wigging me out (at least some of them anyways).

After we got a taste of the MCU's version of everyone's favorite webslinger in "Captain America: Civil War"(2016), the idea of this being the 3rd Spider-Man and 7th film in 15 years became less of a big deal. Largely, due to this maybe being the best onscreen Spider-Man/Peter Parker yet. Although I have a soft spot for the original Sam Raimi films, Tom Holland has the distinct advantage of not looking like a 30-year-old highhschooler, plus some solid laughs and a decent story never hurt either.

Ok, I'll say first thing that I just do not like this "smart suit" that has a voice/personality and AI assistance and special weapons/abilities and everything. That's Iron Man stuff. Not Spider-Man stuff. And it's a pretty huge part of the film and its plot so it's not a minor nit I can just ignore. HOWEVER, almost everything outside of that is quite well done. Peter is hugely likable, fun John Hughes high school vibe, very interesting and sympathetic villain, cool action, lots of laughs.

Funny, heartfelt, and a stunning display of filmmaking, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is the superhero film we've needed for a long time, one that incorporates a larger cinematic universe without collapsing under the weight of the storytelling responsibilities that such a larger role implies, one that isn't bogged down by overly complicated subplots or unnecessary characters, and one that truly proves that Marvel can do whatever a spider can. It ain't Raimi, but it's damn close.

A cleaned-up Deadpool meets a more-relatable Ant-Man. While doing exactly what the MCU does best and exactly what a Spider-Man movie should do, Homecoming has some noteworthy accomplishments. It better grounds the MCU with its hero, also giving us an instance of tension and stakes (more MCU films fail at this than succeed). Holland, Keaton, Tomei and RDJ are excellent. They also didn't waste our time with yet another retelling of the origin. Breaks little new ground, but contributes nonetheless.

For most of its runtime, plays like a straight-up comedy, which frankly, is perfectly fine. I appreciate how these MCU films understand the appropriate scale for their outings: Thor can blow up planets and Cap can penetrate a hidden Cold War, but Spider-Man is just your friendly neighborhood webslinger. I'm glad they kept it in Peter's wheelhouse. His prom date's father is, most likely, the most terrifying person he could possibly face right now.

Tom Holland is adorable as the newest incarnation of Spiderman. He's everything you've come to expect from the witty and boyish superhero. This movie, while boasting some impressive action sequences, is notably different from other MCU movies with how "low-key" it is. While in other MCU movies it's always about saving the world, the galaxy, the universe - this time it's about saving a city block. But it's none the less entertaining.

Maybe I'm just growing more cynical and less impressed at my old age of 25, but you can count me as unimpressed by this movie. Sure, it's fun, energetic, and self-aware, and it does us the favor of skipping another origin story where Uncle Ben dies for the umpteenth time. Yet, the weird franchise-syndrome of these MCU movies is becoming tiring and mundane. It wants to be a high school movie but is tethered to the Hydra that is the MCU and its autofellating self-promotion. Yawn.

Damn, this was some fun shit! Has a real genuine charm to it, and the high school stuff can easily stand alongside some of its obvious influences. Action isn't quite as good but mostly fine. Holland rules but Keaton is the best performer here. Small scale is extremely refreshing. I grinned a hell of a lot. EXTRA THOUGHTS: This movie really makes it seem like Feige etc agree with Tony in Civil War. Why cast Donald Glover and then just have him play a random thug? Best post-credits sequence yet.

Quite possibly the best Spider-Man film so far. It's funnier than I expected, the characters hold their own, the cast is very good but Michael Keaton is awesome, the action is great, and I loved the fact that the film was true to the essence of the Peter Parker character (the shyness, the struggles of the secret identity) and at the same time upgraded the Spider-Man character, now a part of the MCU, with a lot of fun new tech but without losing the 'newbie' traits. A big success on all fronts.

It pushes the America buttons hard - Spidey has to save the Washington Monument, the Staten Island Ferry (w/ statue of liberty watching), a hijacked plane from hitting a skyscraper, the soul of the embittered working class guy. Keaton and RDJ have fun as the arms-dealing father figures and Holland is a third time's charm of a recast. My ideal post-credits stinger would have been Tobey Macguire and Andrew Garfield sitting on a park bench looking dumb and dejected. That would really bring it home.

It took Spider-Man coming home to Marvel, but they've finally topped Raimi's Spidey 2. Compelling and understandable villain, fantastic and well-rounded humor, Holland is pitch perfect, RDJ doesn't crowd the show or steal scenes. Shit, this is probably the best film in the MCU. It meshes impressively well with the universe, takes past events and utilizes them in clever ways. The action is well-dosed and varied. Jesus, I'm having trouble coming up with actual criticisms. Just goddamn great.

*SPOILERS* Okay, so I thought it was pretty good, but then the twist was really delicious! On the downside, I thought Stark's suit made it almost an "Iron Boy" movie instead of a Spidey flick. Also, so MJ is a stoner-loner-nerd? WTF? Looks like the only thing she has in common with the comic version is that she's female (i.e. not red-head model material). Still, I love me some Spider-Man, so this was an easy winner for me.

This is akin to Ant-Man minus the boring beginning. In fact, the beginning is the best part here. It's a good example of what the MCU does really well, but doesn't add much to the formula. It's fun, the fighting is good but brings nothing fresh, there's a little tension, Keaton is cool. Holland is great (best Spider-Man to date), and I still just like superhero movies a lot. Quips worked.

Typically overlong and overstuffed MCU movie is balanced by superior story elements and performances; lighter and more enjoyable than most and held together by Holland's ingratiating and winning performance as the most likable Spidey to date, along with the intriguing double-whammy of Freudian themes in Keaton and Downey's relationships to the hero. Thrilling action set pieces (in Washington and on the ferry) are amongst the finest in the Marvel canon.

Really fun both as a comedy and action film. Marvel finally seems to realize that having an engaging and well motivated villain is essential to the success of a superhero film. And Keaton nails the performance. Beyond that, and I was skeptical at first, the film does not feel like a rehash of previous spider-man films. However, the film fails to convey Peter's maturation that the ending assumes has occurred and Parker's conflict with Stark is resolved way too neatly. It's still great fun though.

This Spider-Man has the wit, humor, and pacing of the Spider-Man most people love from the comics. It's something Andrew Garfield could have been if his sequel didn't suck. Love the spin on Peter's rival, Flash, not being a dumb jock bully, and MJ not being a plain, innocent damsel. Refreshing as is the choice to ignore the rehashed origin story.

i know, it's probably me and the way i have come to perceive the world...but all i can see behind these things is corporate decisions. this isn't about characters or plots anymore, it's about stuffing as much relatable and socially acceptable stuff in there as possible and smear it with broad strokes. a fat, asian nerd should be called the "target audience shotgun". it's so god damn tiresome. this "thing" has absolutely nothing to say. make a fucking movie every once in a while!

Up there with one of the best Spiderman movies, marvel movies, summer blockbusters of 2017. Tom Holland is great at being Peter Parker and Spiderman, a feat we haven't seen from the other Spidermans. The movie feels more like an 80's coming of age movie with a superhero in it, which does a lot to make it feel unique and standout. Can't wait to see Spiderman again

I guess 2017 is the year I like super hero movies again. It gets the Spider-Man tone down perfectly. Peter's desperation to be seen as a real hero is also done really well, though they spent way too much time tying things into the bigger MCU (devotees may like this). And of course having a more realistic villain with actual motivations is what generally separates the good from the bad when it comes to these kinds of movies. Overall a really enjoyable movie.

I think this is the only adaptation so far that really "gets" Spider-Man, in that Peter is a big loveable dumbass that nobody wants to deal with. Previous Spider-Man films tried to reflect the comedy of the source material through weak quips and apologetic slapstick, while Homecoming just has straight-up jokes. Funny ones, too. Hannibal Burress talking shit about Captain America is one of my favorite scenes of the year.

Although there are a few nits to pick (the jokes about how hot Tomei is feels like protesting too much), this does so many things right it's hard not to love. Not only is there no umpteenth origin, but the film consistently illustrates Spidey's distinctive responsibility ethos rather than just saying it. The Washington Monument scene is riveting to watch, the hero cameos bring a smile to your face, a jaw-dropping twist & best of all: Keaton's Vulture - now arguably the best villain in the MCU.

Much like all the other Marvel movies it's pretty good. It's funny when it needs to be, and the action is good even if it feels a bit absurd during the last set piece. It does feel like every other Marvel movie except with more kids. I would have preferred less Tony Stark and talking about Tony Stark and more actual spider-man stuff.

Not since Wes Anderson's Rushmore have I had this much fun seeing a weird high schooler with bizarre extracurricular activities buddy up with an eccentric older millionaire. The fight scenes are a bit lackluster, and I think there's just a bit too much going on plot-wise. But that's balanced out by the strongest young cast I've seen in a movie since The Social Network or The Stanford Prison Experiment. And there are plenty of giggles--capped off by Marisa Tomei's final line.

The entire movie is depicted on the cover. It doesn't get any deeper than that. Half of the protagonists in the movie have no dialogue other than the perpetually repeated mantra, "Whoa! That's awesome!" Bad writing like this chills the performance of even the great Keaton, who deserves at least a nod despite the incredibly planar role. Anyone enamored by this film would benefit from a reexamination after a cooling off period. Even respectable critics are sometimes susceptible to new-film hype.

Homecoming takes the dilemma of Peter's secret identity as a structural foundation, where superhero fantasy is balanced by highschool drama. This film tries to bring Spiderman down to earth with its diversity and Holland's charming performance. While Peter's development is driven by his desperate attempt to prove his worthiness as a hero (which the film portrays as immaturity), the intrusion of the fantastical MCU continuity threatens to undercut this conflict as thematically vacuous.

SM:H ticks a lot of boxes. It's a fun film, that reboots Spidey's story without the boring origin of his powers. Using new characters, it avoids association with previous iterations, constantly reminding you it's part of the MCU. It gives Peter a redemption arc, while defining the character going forward. Keaton gives the best performance in the film, but is limited by the MCU rule of not letting the villain overshadow the hero. In a world with Guardians and Avengers, this all feels trivial.

One of the issues I have with these Marvel Movies is that it seems like I'm watching the same thing over and over, Spider Man strays away from this formula a little bit, but for the most part it's what I thought it would be. The movie is good, Holland as Spidey is a interesting take, but Keaton is by far the best part of this movie, possibly my favorite Marvel villain yet. The movie also carried a lot of heart in certain areas, however I wasn't interested in the school drama this film had.

The humor in this version of Spiderman was top notch. I was a big fan of the randomness of it all. Keaton as the birdman was perfect. He was just the right amount of menacing without going over the top. Im annoyed that it seems as though spiderman is not responsible for making his own suit, but thats small potatoes when compared with how good the character and story are. If they continue his narrative this way, Im sure he'll make a great avenger.

It's weird: I'm tired of superhero movies as a genre but admit Marvel Studios, the largest superhero factory of all, understands how to build a fun movie around interesting characters. This is pretty much everything I want from a Spider-Man movie. Tons of fun, a great Spider-Man, a great villain, a Peter Parker that suffers and struggles the way a Parker should. The Marvel connections worked well, not because I give a shit about Marvel but because it's cool to see Iron Man show up. There's some contrivances and easy coincidences, but who cares? This movie is why I pay for overpriced tickets. Pure, well-down fun.

A good Marvel outing, but not my favorite Spider-man outing. All of these Spider-man reboots always improve on somethings and miss the mark on others. In Homecoming, I found that Vulture was possibly the best Marvel villain in years, and that the focused tone of the movie really worked despite my concerns. Yet, I found its connection to a bigger universe a little distracting, and its writing to be a little under the standard of Marvel movies. It's quite good, but not the best Marvel or Spiderman

W4E2P1S1V1M1A2R2. The best in a long time, and sort of a PG-13 Deadpool (complete with the "we can only afford one Avenger"), irreverent and cheeky and not super "themey." Succeeds because it separate itself from the MCU--every scene alluding to the Avengers in any way is the worst scene in the film. The villain is also lame, since his "power," which pushes Spidey to the brink, comes from the same aliens that ScarJo and Hawkeye were able to mow down in droves. Forgivable, though.

It has some awesome scenes, but the climax against the Vulture was weak and the conflict between the two was extremely trite. At the end, I just hope that this new MJ doesn't become Peter's love interest because she's quite possibly the most insufferable character I've seen in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming excels in its restraint. There aren't big flashy things in the sky and the world isn't ending. Instead, Peter Parker navigates high school while bringing down some fairly small fish (or Vultures or whatever). With its many nods to this, it is obviously the film is proud of this smallness. Holland's energy and Keaton's growl are enough to keep the film entertaining.

They killed half decent Amazing Spider-Man series just to restart it all as a teenager superhero comedy. Jokes weren't funny to me, because, you know, I'm not fourteen. Inoffensive, but boring yet-another superhero movie.

Even though I enjoyed both Maguire and Garfield in the red and blue tights, I still found Holland great for the part. He is somewhere between his predecessors, character-wise. His age is very appealing and works so well for Spider-Man. The story is good and action great. Looking forward to seeing the next installment. *Good

Decent plot development (including a twist) and not another unnecessary origins story. Good charcter building Humour is pushed a tiny bit me occasionally and some CGI stands out a bit too much as being 'false' but the action is good and you can believe Peter Parker really is a school kid Tom Holland is not necessarily being the best Spider-Man or the best Peter but he is the best combination of the two as the "complete package" and I look forward to seeing a lot more of him growing in the role.

A bit of a mess. The funny bits work best, while in the rest of the movie, the supposed main plot keeps taking the backseat to the romantic subplot. Still, it has nice earthbound tone, which is way closer to the Defenders tv characters than the avengers. Think of the movie as an awkward gangly teenager, but with potential to grow into something cute.

A Spider-Man movie made in the style of John Hughes high school films??? Yes please. Tom Holland takes the crown as the best representation of the character we've ever seen. It fits well into the MCU without getting bogged down by franchise building. And it features one of the MCU's few worthwhile villains in Michael Keaton's Vulture.

Very entertaining - with funny moments, good pace. The young spider-man, who is learning how to be a superhero, is a great idea, very refreshing (not just telling once again the story of how he lost his uncle) . Has merits for making the superpowers and villains look more realistic. Tom Holland is the best spider-man in recent years.

For some reason I got bored after 5 minutes and switched it off. Couldn't stand all these Spider-Man movies anymore. Gave it another shot and this one is actually the best of the bunch! Great entertainment and quite a likeable Spider-Man this time. Recommended!

The characters all seem to fit in Spider-Man Homecoming. The story was less, and you can see the struggle Marvel makes to make sure all their superhero movies connect. The more there are made the more difficult it gets. But for now it'll do. I liked this one, eventhough it is a little 'younger' than I thought. 56/100.
